Pours a hazy, almost opaque golden with a thick white head. Malty aroma has a hoppy underpinning and more than a hint of fruit. Flavor has a strong citrus component, more at an IPA but not as hoppy as that style. Sour and subtle bitter notes round out the taste. Firm, fizzy mouthfeel leaves malty and hoppy tones behind. Brewer’s select? Hop yeah!

If you are in Taichung for business or pleasure and looking for some real beers and a hearty burger Gordon Biersch is one of your only options. Even at a good western style restaurant it is difficult to find anything hoppier than Bass or Heineken in Taiwan. Gordon Biersch offers a wide range of beers and the beer/food quality is very similar to that found at many of the US locations.
This pale ale was part of a sampler and a refreshing change after trying all the local beer offerings. Nothing amazing but the burst of hops tasted great after a week of Taiwan Beer Co. cans. Light in color, the pale ale was an interesting complement to the traditional lagered beers that Gordon Beirsch usually focuses on. This beer has fermented out very clean using primarily pale malts resulting in a refreshing, drinkable beer with noticeable hops. Gan Bei.
