bottle courtesy of Fred82. Aroma is all hop. Really nice aroma with a little floral as well. Pours a cloudy orange amber colour with a generous white head. Body is well carbonated and somewhat complex. Flavour is somewhat floral with a great hop bitterness in the aftertaste. I'm really liking this brewery. Need Fred to get me some more!

On tap at St. Bock's.

This beer arrives to my table, and appears a mildly hazy orangish-amber, with two fingers of soapy, foamy white head, which leaves minor lace as it recedes. It smells of piney and mild citrus hops and caramel malt. The taste is soapy, dandelion-like, grassy hops, and soft caramel malt. The carbonation is moderate, the body actually pretty solid and malty, and it finishes with a clean weedy hop flourish. A so-so attempt at a West Coast IPA in la Belle Province.

Hopfenstark- Post Coloniale

A- Dark ruby orange with a thick frothy head. Moderate amount of lacing down the glass.
S- A nice blend of sweet caramel malt and juicy pineapple, orange, and grapefruit citrus hops.
T- Thick sweet caramel malt with a good balance smooth sweet citrus hops. Grapefruit and Pineapple come out.
M- Solid balance on the palatte. Creamy smooth with a nice juicy, slight bitter, citrus feel. Malt and hop flavors and feel are entangled.

Overall- Well balanced and 1 of the better IPA's I've had in awhile. Very smooth and easy to consume. This is worth seeking out!

West Coast style IPA from this up and coming brewpub eventually brewery. Samped at Mondiale 2007. Fresh, orange with a little head. Grapefruit nose. Orange citrus taste. Medium mouthfeel and very refreshing finish. Top 15% IPA.Mild astringency that works.
Much smoother on tap at Volo 3.5 years later.

Sampled at Vices & Versa during their 3rd anniversary party.

Appearance: A darker shade of caramel/copper, with a thin, but sturdy and clingy lace.

Smell: Started subdued and flowery sweet, the citrusy c-hops became more and more present, and showed some resinous tones too.

Taste: Clean and quaffable, with an excellent balance of crunchy malts and crisp, bitter hops and a dry finish. From a brewery that just opened, I'm impressed. This isn't a tongue twister, but it has about all of the elements I look for in an IPA.

50th review!

I was excited to get this and be able to try it at home.

Beer is amber color and hazy. Can't see through the beer. Smell is hops almost piny and grass. Very interesting smell, I love it. Taste is a little bit disappointing since I had hope for more hops. A more intense IPA. Nevertheless, the taste is good. I expected to be extraordinary. The mouthfeel is thin and not much carbonation and/or bubbles. Head is also quite thin. Next time, I will pour more aggressively.

A more than decent beer.

A beer to buy again.

amber color, very clear with alot of carbonation. A smallish wite head formed but qucikly left leaving behind only a slight amount of lace. Nothing really spectacular here. Smell was light, some grapefruit and orange peel tones, a touch of sweetness, but it needed to be stronger to give more of a punch. The taste followed that up almost exactly. It had a smooth crisp, light feel. Good carbonation, not slick or oily and left a decent dry finish, but felt a tad thin to me. The flavors were al right, just nothing that was gonna make you stop and take notice of it.
Overall tis was ok. It just came off as a bit too light for me and thats why it doesnt get a better score. I would put it right above average, only because it is not bad, however needs to be juiced up a bit to have some of those flavors start to come out.

Copper beer in color, with a nice sturdy and present foamy head that kept itself on the glass

Smell is floral, very hoppy, very piney and resinous from the cascade hops, shy malty presence too but taken apart from the hops.

Taste is bitter, hoppy, clean and sharp, like Goldorack would say a crunchy malt and crisp is present. A dry finish comes end this beer with a sharp bitterness and fresh hoppy presence.

Poured a hazy copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a grainiy malt, some esters and an herbal hop.

The taste featured a rather peppery hop and a good base malt.

The mouthfeel was average for the style.

Overall a good IPA. Nothing too exciting, but easy to drink.

10oz pour at Volo Cask Days. Pours a very hazy tea color, hints of amber, light bubbly head.

Nose of citrus, lemon, pine, tangerine, grapefruit, balanced with a light malt bill. Juicy and pleasant.

As balanced in the taste though leaning towards the piney resin side, long bitterness in the finish, not as juicy, caramel malt bill coming through. Perhaps a little tiring in its slightly one dimensional bittering but certainly not to the point where I would abandon my pour or where I wouldn't drink it again. Light cask mouthfeel adds to drinkability.

Not bad, nice on cask. Could add a little brightness and dimension to the hop profile but otherwise, nice.

Appearance - Mostly clear copper colour with a small size frothy off-white coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some really good lacing. The head lasted for around 3 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, caramel, hops, oranges, grapefruits

Taste & Mouth - There is a low amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel and a decent amount of hops. There is also a nice amount of citrus flavour going on - oranges and grapefruits. The beer finishes with a sweet citrus aftertaste with some light lingering hops.

Overall - I'm always excited when I taste a IPA from Canada that tastes like it came from the states. The flavour was good and it was very highly drinkable. The mouthfeel was a little lacking but that was probably due to the fact that this was on cask. Worth trying for sure.

A - Hazy copper colour, with lots of rocky white head typical of cask conditioned ales.
S - Smells of fresh hops, citrus and flowers. Not a very strong smell, but it might have been the atmosphere at the bar and mingling food smells.
T - Becomes quite sour and bitter, lots of fresh hop taste and the dirty taste of dry leaves. Lots of orange and citrus make it fairly sweet to balance the powerful bitterness of the hops. Very nice beer, but only strong in aftertaste, it is almost watery at first.
M - A little watery as casked ales tend to be, but incredibly drying and refreshing.
D - Maybe a little too hoppy and drying, but a style I could enjoy a few of.

Bottle courtesy of SFLpunk. Served in a tulip.

Pours a clear light amber color with a thin off-white head. Good spotty lacing and a few bubbles on top. The nose carries a bit of light malt and some very faint citrus. The flavor is bready with a bit of caramel and some citrus and floral hops. Light fruit and a bit of cherry. Medium body with moderate carbonation and a light bitterness in the finish. Tastes slightly oxidized with a bit of cardboard. Okay beer, though not up to par with good versions of this style.

On tap at Max's.

The beer pours an amber orange color with OK head retention, but very good lacing. On the nose, I get some light citrus, and not much else. The beer has a bit more flavor on the palate, and I get a modestly sweet IPA, balanced with some pleasant (but hardly overwhelming) bitter citrus. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, and drinkability is fair. Alcohol seems to be dailed down prett well, but I wish this beer had more of a hoppy bite and more flavor.

Postcolonial pours a dark-red copper colour, has an average looking head with less than average retention. Looks pretty tasty, but nothing that particularly stands out.

The smell immediately declares this to be an IPA, as its stronger character is the hops - a very piney variety.

As you would expect, the taste is quite similar, with piney hops dominating the experience from start to finish. In that respect, it isn't a very well balanced beer but I don't think that takes away from the experience too much. There's a little bit of spice and malt, but that's it. Still very good.

This has the mouthfeel of an average IPA - dry, not too heavy, good carbonation. Overall, I think this beer is lacking in complexity but its still definitely worth trying if you're into IPAs. I'm particularly a fan of piney hops, so I really did enjoy it.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this cask at Vices et Versa.

A: Deep copper with a light tan head, some retention, excellent lacing (hand pumped).

S: Wonderful grass, pine, grapefruit & tangerine nose, slightly biscuity.

T: Quality biscuity malt, good bitterness and a well-rounded citrus hop profile.

M; Moderate body is very smooth, hint of hop acidity, modest carbonation.

D: Very drinkable.

A: Poured from a growler to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a cloudy texture. There was an inch and a half of creamy, long-lasting head. OK lacing.

S: A subtle, underplayed aroma of citrus, hops, and a little malt.

T: Not an overwhelming citrus presence here, but a little grapefruit, with a big dose of hops and a malty finish. Not as complex as other IPAs, but pretty tasty.

M: A solid amount of carbonation with a slick finish. Surprisingly light-bodied.

D: An interesting, drinkable beer.
