On tap at Max's todahy.

The beer pours a blackish brown color with fairly good head retention and modest lacing. This is another beer that looks to have seen some serious barrel aging (though it's not quite as viscuous looking as the Kamarad bourbon). The nose is attractive, showcasing vanilla, light chocolate and vanilla, and maybe a hint of bourbon. The flavor profile replicates the nose, with some leather intermixed with the vanilla, coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium bodied to full, with a fairly long, moderately sweet finish.

A nice effort, but nothing really to get all that excited about. The kamarad bourbon was a much more interesting beer (IMHO).

500 ml bottle split at Volo with grub!

Pours an opaque black with some dark brownish red edges, thin tan head forms, quickly drops down to a thin ring, some lace spots on the glass. Smell is neat, chocolate, licorice, toffee, cherries and dark fruit, alcohol, vanilla, a bit of wood, nice aroma, very heavy on the fruits. Taste is nice as well, vanilla up front, chocolate, more licorice, toffee, molasses, wood, intensely malty middle, alcohol, brown sugar, bit of astringency in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation, a bit syrupy, some alcohol heat, but quite nice. Very flavourful stout, wood comes through nice. Thanks Jenn!

500ml bottle. sampled at volo sept 4/08.

pours inky and opaque, nearly black, with a small dense dark brown head. the head drops quickly to a ring around the glass and leaves spotty lace.

aroma is awesome. caramel. roasty and toasty. licorice. alcohol. vanilla and bourbon. dark fruit - bit of raisin and date. big bread and biscuit malt. coffee. dark chocolate. hint of smoke.

taste is great. bittersweet and milk chocolate. coffee. caramel and a bit of toffee. roasty. toasted multi-grain bread and biscuit. light sweetness. licorice. medium-low bitterness level, more chocolatey than hoppy. vanilla, oak, bourbon. great fruity character too.

mouthfeel is great. nice big and chewy body. low carbonation level. super smooth.

drinkability is great. very well balanced within the stout and against the oak. great depth. an excellent IRS.

A-Pitch black beer with a thick dark brown head. Copious lacing left behind.

S-Coffee, tobacco and milk chocolate. A small hint of dark fruit in the end.

T-Rich and earthy with the oaky vanilla/caramel notes popping out. Nice rise of the coffee and chocolate flavours as well.

M-Medium-heavy body with a smoothness that just wont quit. Astringent oak dryness finishing things off.

D-Whoa! This is one big, burly Kamarad! Lovely flavours melding thru and thru. Alcohol heat becomes a bit much and would limit me enjoying too many of these in a row. Ceratinly a, sit by the fire with a snifter type of brew.

Enjoyed at Mondiale 2008. A festival-stopper. Brought out the character of their regular IS through six months of oak barrel ageing. There is sediment. The coffee exceeds the chocolate. Sourness is here but then there are layers of complexity. Sugar-like mouthfeel, about medium. Wood bit Sediment in glass.
Had 2.5 years later on tap, the 2010 edition which was way too young and astringent, but yet decently drinkable and looked great and thick.
