Jack Whacker Wheat AleJack Whacker Wheat Ale
Notes: An American-style wheat ale brewed with malted. Low hopping rates allow the refreshing aroma and citrus flavor of a late addition of lemon grass to dominate. This unfiltered beer retains all of its protein, flavor, and some of its yeast, resulting in a traditionally cloudy appearance.

Surprised of the low ratings from other BAers. Sure it's not as good as it could be, but the intentions, creativity, and execution went quite well. It has an obvious American Wheat base that would have been better with a German Hefeweizen yeast to accentuate the clove, citrus, and bananna characteristics. The addition of lemon grass adds a nice citric, earthy tone that dominates the, otherwise, bland wheat character. Very clean and refreshing in the finish with a light, minty-dryness. A true thirstquincher.

Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a clear pint glass. Freshness date notched on back label.

A: Hazy peach with 1-finger off-white head and only specks of lace.

S: Lemongrass smell is predominant with a touch of cereal graininess and wheaty tang

T: Flavor overall is muted with no fruitiness but straight grain and lemon citrus taste.

M: Reasonable body with low carbonation and light lemon aftertaste.

D: Fine for an American wheat ale, but nothing to write home about (like most of this style)

It's important to rate this beer for what it is - a light crisp beer made for summer sessions. Initially I thought the taste was flavorless, but as I sipped the lemongrass really started to come through. There's nothing that really stands out about this beer besides its
drinkability. But at the end of the day, isn't drinkability what it's all about?

A primarily mild Lemon
Flowery wheat
with some corriander spice
and a hint of tart yeast

Pours a mild hazy yellow

a light floral lemon smell-
probably its high point
but its mild and hard to tell

The Taste finishes
with a nice bitter ease
and that subtle floral undertone
like a wild lavender leave

Mouthfeel is good
carbonated to a
zing

The drinkability is easy:
this is semi-weak offering

Nonetheless for its attempt
to use lemongrass and spice
its mild and refreshing
and goes down nice

12oz. bottle served cold into a pint glass.

I picked up a mixed six pack of Tommyknocker beers a couple of months ago but finally decided to try this one after a glowing review in the local newspaper recently.

Appearance is a hazy golden yellow color. I swirled a bit of the settled yeast into glass at the end. Head is short and settles quickly.

Aroma is mild but enjoyable with a hint of citrus.

Flavor is actually really nice. It's sweet but not overly so thanks to a bit of lemon and hops. It's crisp and refreshing - two words I don't normally associate with the beers I drink.

Mouthfeel is light in body and nicely balanced.

Overall a nice wheat ale. Worth a try but I probably wouldn't pick up a sixer until next summer.

a: pours a hazy golden color with about a half inch of head that dissapears fast leaving a slight ring of lacing towards the center of the beer
s: lemon sweet sour fruity wheat honey, i think id use all of these to describe the aroma, there is not one that really dominates
t: similar to the nose, a lot of flavors lemmon and grassy stand out but are not overpowering to the others at all
m: light to medium bodied beer with good carbonation

overall, i really enjoyed this brew i think ill look for it again, it was a decent price

A pretty nice brew, the lemon grass is a nice touch ... good foam 4 an american wheat ... a cross between a witbier and a fruity kolsch ... a saving grace from Tommy! ... "skippy and his lunch" ...this would be good at a bbq on a warm day, decent..

Pours a hazy yellow color with a nice white head. In the aroma, banana and small hints of citrus. In the taste, dry banana, small clove presence and just a small bitterness. A nice bitterness and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry clove and citrusy aftertaste. A nice balance, good flavor, a really nice wheat.

Pours a pale yellow, slightly cloudy, with a big white head to it. Head drops fairly quickly.

Aroma of wheat and lemon, fairly light.

Taste is wheat, yeast, with a definite lemon twang. Light, but not watered down.

Light, leaning towards medium body. A bit more carbonation than should be, and the feel is a little bit watery, but that's something to be expected with the lighter wheat ales.

Overall, well drinkable. I'm not a fan of wheat ales, but this is pretty solid and something that I would consider drinking more often, especially as a summertime brew.

Overall - Excellent wheat beer. Very drinkable. Very well balanced.

Overall this was an average wheat beer. Nothing complex about the flavors, smell or look.

A: Only a lightly cloudy golden color. There was little to no head on the beer and the carbonation appeared to instantly be on the decline after the pour was finished.
S: Light lemony wheat scent fills the nostrils on this beer.
T: Citrus taste with a mild wheat flavor
M: Feels flat, especially toward the end of the glass. Goes down smooth none the less, but really lacked the body a wheat beer deserves
D: Falls below the medium in terms of a wheat beer
