I am a sucker for big brews, and this is a unique one that almost works. Is brown, with a slight head. The aroma is quite nice. Nutty, sort of, and hoppy, and malt.

The tasteisg good, sweet and slightly bitter, but it is very much over powered by booze taste. The after taste comes through, though, with a wonderful, rich mouthful that lingers nicely.

I can't recommend this without reservation. It's great if you want a huge beer that is a change of pace.

A nice brown ale. I would love to try it on draft.

Best by 7/6/15. 12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours Brown with some ruby hues; small tan head that fades leaving little lacing and retention. The aromas are great. Tons of maple syrup. Lots of sweet caramel and cocoa malts. The flavors are pretty earthy. There's a subtle bitterness going on, but the malts still dominate. Pretty woodsy. The maple syrup shines. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of full-bodied with active carbonation. Pretty smooth. Alcohol goes unnoticed.

This is a great brown ale. Very nice use of maple syrup. Well done. Recommended.

Meticulously crafted with pure maple syrup and the highest quality chocolate and crystal malts. With it's big, malty and complex character, it is a strapping, bolder version of their wildly popular Maple Nut Brown

Appearance - Pour a finger of rich creamy light mocha foam, body is a slightly opaque warm brown color,

Smell - Burnt toffee, maple syrup, roasted malt, baked wheat bread, rich soy sauce, just a whiff of ripe dark fruits like fig and raisin.

Taste - begins with rich roasted malt and lots of dark fruits, much like the nose I get fig, roasted plums, raisin, a smack of semi-sweet maple, and hints of black cherry, there is also a nuttiness here that combines with the dark fruits that reminds me of amaretto, right behind this is warm roasted breadcrusts, which is then joined by dark slightly astringent coffee, and some tartness of dark fruit skins, and ends with some dry and bitter char and a hint of unsweetened black licorice. Regarding the maple, I pick this up mostly in the sinuses, and on the lips after the quaff. Alcohol is well hidden, but adds heat throughout the session, nicely hidden for 9%.

Mouthfeel - A bit more weight than medium, there is some weight here although it does not coat the mouth. Flavors are fairly bold, and become astringent and dry at the end of the quaff. Carb is on the lower side of medium and silky smooth at the center of the tongue, and provides some light edges and gentle scrub at the sides and back of the tongue, allowing for more of a bitter, dry finish. Regarding the maple, I pick this up mostly in the sinuses, and on the lips after the quaff.

Overall - I have to say, I really think they've nailed what you would expect from an imperial nut brown ale with maple syrup. The finish may seem a bit astringent, but I personally don't mind this as the front and center are bold and fruity with plenty of nuttiness and semi-sweet roastiness. Interesting and potent, give this one a try.
