I was in Battle Creek on business and wanted to go to Arcadia. Unfortunately I got there just past 11:00 on Thursday and the brewery had just closed. Luckily The Griffin was open and inviting from the street. There were only a handful of customers when we arrived, but it continued to fill as time when on. By 1:00 or so there were dozens of raucous customers, so apparently this is the place to go in the town when every other place closes.
The music was too loud. The decor was neat and clean and vaguely antique. The bartender was very knowledgeable on beer and scotch and willing to discuss and suggest on both topics, but was a little stretched to keep up with all the customers. We did not try any food. The prices were decent.
They had an impressive draught list (~30 taps) and even two hand-pulled ales. The only problem was they were "in between seasons" and in the process of changing out a bunch of taps. That meant their beer list was wildly inaccurate and they had some empty taps and one empty beer engine. It seemed like every interesting Belgian or Michigan beer that sounded great on the list was not really available. I had to settle for Dogfish Head 60 Minute, an old standby for me, but at least they had it on tap. After that I switched to single malt scotch.

Down the street from Arcadia, this place has 20 odd taps, a half dozen devoted to craft beer, all local Michigans. A bit crowded between the tables and the bar, the bartender not moving at the great speed I have seen in most places, we did not stay very long. People talking to their small groups, music on the loud side, still nicely appointed, and tables on a patio in the back. You could do worse, and it is open very early at 8 am for breakfast and they will even serve you a beer then. It is open much later than Arcadia as well.

This is the place to go in Battle Creek if there is a place to go. Almost straight across the street from Arcadia, so hit this place up if you stop in there, you will be happy. I see Hunt Club got good reviews, but no way is that place better, so try here first.
On tap, BEST of THE BEST, Cask of Bell's Two Hearted. Do I need to go on? OK, cask of Arcadia IPA (just ok, can't compare to the Two Hearted, but not much can). After the cask, you have (as of this weekend), Delirium Noel, Arrogant Bastard, Dragonmead Under Kilt, Mad Hatter, Hacker Pschorr, Samichlaus, Bell's Seasonal amongst a few other Micros/imports. As for Macros, they have those too (Guinness, Harp, Bass, Bud, Miller etc.) on tap.
Bottles, I am not so sure. I know it isn't a ton worth looking into. With all the drafts on tap and the great prices, I have never ventured into this realm.
Food, they have a somewhat unique menu for a mostly bar food bar. If you like potato soup with some hot peppers, this is one of my favorite places for that. Mucho fried food, and decent Burgers. Shepherds Pie seems to sell well if that is something that interests you.
Every night is a "special" night... liquor, bottles, pints, 20 oz drafts, all have their own days. Fridays seem to be the best deal and it tends to get a bit busy later in the night.
Try this place before anywhere else if you happen to be unlucky and stuck in Battle Creek.
