A 330ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2011. Picked up a while back from Waitrose. Label states that this was brewed in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot (not that I consider it to be an indicator of quality).

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A slightly hazy, deep-golden hue with fine carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam with decent retention; this lasts for a couple of minutes before reducing to a surface layer. Aroma of light malt with faint notes of grain, cooked hops and yeast. Mild background staleness with a subtle whiff of apples.

Tastes of light malt with a dry finish. Notes of faint grain and stewed hops. A subtle hint of overcooked veg. Slightly bitter upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is crisp, tingly and dry. Somewhat astringent. Weak aftertaste of stewed hop bitterness.

A fairly average lager. A very fine cut above industrial macro output, but that isn't saying much. Relatively bland and uninteresting - doesn't justify the price. Pass.

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color. It poured with a short bright white head that died down, leaving some patches of bubbles on the surface, a collar around the edge, and bits of lacing running down the edges.
S: Light to moderate aromas of grassy hops are present in the nose along with notes of bready malts.
T: The taste follows the smell, except that it is a little maltier and it almost seems like there is a bit of skunk (although this does not come from a green bottle).
M: It feels medium-bodied and quite clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. Hints of dryness are noticeable in the finish.
O: This is a good representation of a German style by a Scottish brewer - it reminds me a little like a Bitburger.

330ml Bottle: BBD 7th May 14, poured into a Veltins badged stemmed tulip during a lager/pilsner tasting session with the wife, this was the last of the five beers we tried.

Pale yellow to gold with a mini haze, the head pure white that started deep and even began to fade instantly before settling down as a wisp and collar.

Mild aromas, mixed esters from both grassy hops and semi-sweet malty molasses: had to sniff deeply to find anything.

The taste was a pleasant blend of lager-like flavours: malty front with a more bitter, dry hop finish.

Nothing special about it, but better than all the mass produced beers around the world in this style.

Nicely carbonated, appeared fresh and scored well compared to some on the night.

Lovely golden colour, almost looks like a marzen/oktoberfest style beer.

Medium carbonation, no head.

Deep malt flavour, slight sweetness. Top effort from West. Very well crafted brew, would like to try the draft version.

330mL bottle poured into 0.5L Stiegl beer glass.

Not going into detail. This hybrid is simply delicious. The most popular and best selling beer in my department at Wholefoods in Giffnock, this lager is very easy drinking, smooth and just pleasant to drink. It's a bit difficult to find pubs that do pour this around Glasgow but I have found quite a few now and even a couple in Edinburgh. In my personal opinion, this is a 5/5 and my favourite.

In the bottle this has all the usual enticing Continental lager aromas though once in the glass the nose becomes more awkward and harder with traces of almost unripe apple. A deep yellow this beer is crowned with a very light very thin wispy head. Feels very cardonated and there is a sourness to the taste which is neither fresh or clean.
More style over substance as far as I am concerned.

This is a re-rate, of a bottle rather than pint. Previous rating was 4.25 which was a bit too high, although that was a banging pint

Pours golden, nice head

Lager malts, sweetness and some fruity pear comes through on the nose. Quite pleasant.

All quite light in flavour, but some nice lager malts and fruity and grassy hops. Mild bitterness, semi-dry finish. . Good carb, medium body

A very easy lager to drink, have preferred it on tap before over the bottle. You could drink plenty of these

Offering from 'West Brewery'...'The UK's only brewery to produce all [their] beers according to the Reinheitsgebot'.

Pours a light golden colour, with a magnificent bright white fluffy head which leaves some lacing as it goes down the glass. The head just sits there sticking to the sides of the glass...

Smell is of lighter malts, with an evident hop aroma underlying them....very delicate.

Taste is some malt up front and then some nice hop flavours that round it out.

Mouthfeel is medium to light bodied.

Very sessionable beer.

Clean, light, refreshing, easy to quaff.
