Located not too far from U.S. 78, this bottle shop - like most - has a wide variety of potent potables. Their beer section is not too big, but at least craft brews dominate - just a couple segments of the cooler are dedicated to macrobrews. They have a lot of craft beer in bombers, four-packs and six-packs, as well as a special section for Belgians. I have seen better beer selections, but they at least emphasize craft brews and imports over industrial crud. The salespeople are very efficient at getting you checked out and loading up your loot so you can tote it home. They were friendly and made you feel welcome. Even if their prices seem to be on the high side, they are worth a visit. Or two. Or more.

This is an outstanding liquor and beer store. I actually believe their English ale stock to be on par or better than Hop City.

For the Atlanta east side, this is a very good option, try here before you drive all the way over to Northside or even to ALe Yeah in Decatur. Both of those destinations have merit, but this place has a great selection

I had been visiting SRBS since before 21 (relax Otis, I was helping my dad carry wine) and after moving back and able to buy, it's been a nice destination. Hadn't been in for a number of years but some business nearby brought me in the other night for a look around.

Store is laid out well, adapting from the old blueprint where beer/wine and liquor had to be sold through separate doors. High end and cheaper tastes are both catered to.

Staff are friendly and quick to point out suggestions or help in finding a substitute if what you want isn't available.

Selection for beers is very good with a lot of items I haven't seen closer to where I live now. Loads of bombers, sixes, and Belgians including beer glasses for sale.

Prices seem a little higher on some items, lower on others.

A really great store for beer; not necessarily a destination, but if you're in the area it merits a visit.

Just stopped in the other day because I remembered them saying the last time I was in and saw my selections that they were expanding the beer section. They have definitely done that, and have added a massive amount of bombers. They are still pretty weak on Belgians, but they have the deepest selection of the brands they carry that I have seen. For example, 4 different Shipyard styles, all the current Smuttynose, 4 Mendicino styles, etc. Sometimes this means 4 different styles of a so-so brand, but if you are looking for a style that the standard places don't carry, this is a good bet.

Here are few highlights:

Commonwealth (haven't seen this yet anywhere)
St Somewhere
Great Divide

For Belgians they had
Heylissem (haven't seen this one)
St Bernie
et al.

Not bad at all.

Didn't really ask for help, and I doubt most of the staff would know that much, but if you live in the area, it definitely worth checking out before driving all the way to Green's.

***Update- 1/12/2009***

This place is not yet a beer mecca, but they have begun to seriously step up their beer presence in an attempt to make their beer section as quality as their liquor and wine selections. They have added a fairly long shelf of warm sixpacks and a few more craft sixpacks in the cooler, as well as a 2nd small bomber shelf (warm). They claim to have added 100 new beers so far. I can see about 30 new sixpacks and about 15-20 new bombers. Pretty good sixer collection, still pretty weak on the bombers. They plan to expand again in February with new shelving and new brands. Keep an eye on this place as they seem (at long last) interested in becoming serious about craft beer. My scores have been adjusted.

***Original Review***
Not a bad place to pick up a six pack, especially for the area. Without a doubt, this is the best liquor store in the Eastern Burbs, it just isn't neccesarily the best beer store. Outstanding liquor and very good if somewhat uneven wine selection, but beer selection is only so-so. Don't get me wrong, they have some great stuff like Oskar Blue's products, all the Terrapin and Sweetwater, some Dogfish head and a few Belgians and Germans as well as a number of other craft brews, but they are sometimes late to the party and they seem a little too careful in deciding which craft beers to stock. Dogfish head was a long time coming and even now they are only carrying a few of them- and none of the reaally special ones. I feel like they are not passionate about beer at all and that it is merely a calculated business decision to carry craft brands. This is disappointing, since they are much less restrained about adding new wines and liquor all the time. They have massive cooler space and a clean and well organized store with good parking in a well off neighborhood- they could be doing much more. There is a small warm selection (some of which has been sitting for a while), but the rest is cooled. Lots of macros. A good store that could be better, but still good for the area. Prices are average, but higher than Greens.
