Batch: 469
Brewed April 04, 2012 | Bottled Oct. 02, 2014

Pours a deep, dark mahogany beneath a slim beige head. Acetic, musty aroma...wine barrel oakiness, mild vinegar, toast, and brown sugar. Sour berries, light oaky spice, red wine, lemon acidity, crisp apple, and a slight bready sweetness. Puckering dryness on the gums, slick and tart. Pretty tasty.

From a 500ml bottle, batch 687, brewed Nov. 20, 2013, bottled Jun 15, 2015.

Pours a deep mahogany brown with maple highlights and a meager rocky head which fades back quickly. Scant retention with no lacing.

The smell is sharp as a knife, with farmhouse yeast and limes.

Taste follows the nose, wickedly sour. Dried tart cherries, lemon pulp, lime, distilled vinegar, wood ash and a clean earthiness. There is only the merest suggestion of the wine barrel lingering on the palate but the oak itself is evident throughout, from the dry start through to the tannin tackiness at the end.

Mouthfeel is clean and dry, light-to-medium bodied, very low carbonation, crisp and mouth-puckering.

Overall, the sheer tartness of the beer was initially shocking but, once I was past that, I really settled into enjoying this. The oak wine barrel character is understated and slowly reveals itself and develops as you sip. A highly serviceable beverage.

look; beautiful mahogany cherry, not much head, little lacing, appropriate for the style
smell; fresh cherries, cherry cigar, a little woody, hint of vague citrus or acid, very inviting
taste; sour cherry, hint of balsamic vinegar and black pepper, in a really really good way
feel; mild carbonation, full body, moderate tartness
overall; it's a deliciously tart oud bruin, classicly delicious

Brewed in 2012, bottled October 2014, enjoyed February 2016. Garnet pour with a light head. Leather, smoke, plums, figs, sour raspberries and cherries, oak. Fantastic beer with a taste profile that hides any alcohol heat while providing just enough tart to pinch, not pucker, the cheek.

I really didn't know what to expect on this one, and was really surprised by how much I liked it. It reminded me a lot of an Avery barrel aged sour. Burnt rubber nose was not my fave, but the flavor burst with wine barrel and cherries.

Note: Batch 687, Brewed 2013

A: Pours a hazy dark reddish brown in color with light amounts of active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and faint amber + golden yellow highlights. The beer has a quarter finger tall sudsy foamy light tan head that reduces to a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of oak, white wine barrels, and vinegar with just a hint of spiciness.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of vinegar with moderate flavors of white wine and oak. Light to moderate tartness/sourness with just a hint of funkiness. Light notes of spiciness in the finish.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light to moderate amounts of acidic prickliness.

O: Easy to drink and enjoyable, just enough complexity to keep the flavors/aromas interesting with a light amount of tartness/sourness.

A: The beer is hazy very dark brown in color. It poured with a minimal head, leaving only a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of oak and white wine barrels are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of oak, vinegar, and white wine barrels along with a light to moderate amount of sourness, but this becomes a little stronger as the beer warms up. Hints of berries and grapes are noticeable.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a little tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a pleasant beer to drink as it seems to have just enough sourness and tartness to make things interesting without impacting the drinkability.
