Appearance: murky brown with a hint golden brown around the edge. Thin lacing.

Smell: lambic like with the cranberries seeping through.

Taste & Mouthfeel: thinner in mouthfeel with a sour bent. Dry finish with the tartness of the cranberries. The dryness is very prominent & almost takes away from the whole of the beer.

Overall: this will satisfy your sour longing but you could find better if searched. Not amazing, but decent.

Shared bottles at HaandBryggeriet. ABV 7%. Reddish brown colour, low head. Strong sourish aroma of crowberries and lemony gueuze, notes of farmhouse. Sour flavour, notes of crowberries and oak. Interesting, but will probably improve with a year or two in a cool cellar.

500ml Bottle
$10.99
Binny's, Bloomingdale

A very aggressive pour yields a short lived antique white head that fizzles down to nearly nothing in half a minute. The body is a dark murky garnet that turns cranberry red when backlit, how appropriate. I can't say much for the looks of this guy.

The smell, on the other hand, I can get behind. The fruitiness is in between cranberries and sour cherries with each smell bringing one or the other to the forefront. Red wine vinegar acidity rides through with a faint touch of vanilla lactic sweetness and all this is surrounded, in the most modest of ways, by damp wood (or forest floor, whichever you prefer).

An assertive tartness hits at the tip of the tongue and although it mellows it does last throughout. Slightly astringent damp oak, the faintest hint of vanilla, robust red wine vinegar acidity, and a mix of cranberries and sour cherries all come together to make for something enjoyable. The finish surprisingly sweetens up a touch with the fruitiness to give a play on sweet and sour. Nicely done!

The carbonation is sluggish but the body is light enough that they work well together. The finish is moderately sour, nicely tart, and slightly sweet before turning saliva sucking tannic dry.

I'm enjoying this beer more than I thought I would. I've had it in the past but don't remember much about it, which usually means it wasn't very good, but I'm enjoying this bottle tonight. There's sweet, sour, and funky components at work. Definitely worth a try.

Drank from my Duvel tulip

A -Pours a red dark copper colour with no head.

S - Sour cherries and other fruits. Nice

T - Really nice sourness up front followed by the dark fruits like cherries, etc. The finish is lingering with Brett, and sourness.

M - Light to medium body with minimal carbonation

O - Not a bad example of a fruit sour. Would have liked to have seen more carbonation.

Bottle: standard light brown 500mL bottle with a completely rubbish looking label. Looks like it was printed on a personal / home computer.

Appearance: looks like a dirty soda - a heavy reddish-brown in colour with absolutely no head whatsoever. Bubbling head, but no head - and I mean no head at all. I tried to bring one up by pouring high, but there wasn't even a touch of froth on top during the pour.

Aroma: a solidly pungent sour cherry aroma - very different to anything I have had before. Very... Interesting.

Taste: an incredibly pungent, overpowering sourness mixed with melted dirt and off earth flavours. The more I try to choke this down, the more the concept of self-harm becomes appealing.

Aftertaste: follows the same flavours. Doesn't linger long, but the ideas of self-harm carry through just fine.

Mouth feel: oddly enough, the mouth feel seems just baout right. Medium in body with just enough carbonation to carry the flavour through.

Overall: I realise this is probably one of those "not used to the style" things, but I have certainly had lambics, krieks, etc before, but I don't think I will ever get used to this horror. I think not.
