Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of aromatic coffee is quite nice with light dry roasted malt notes. Taste is a good mix between aromatic coffee notes with little astringency and roasted malt with a dry finish. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation. Very tasty coffee porter with very subtle smoky notes that I usually associated with the Haand brewery.

A: single finger head with nice retention and lacing on a jet black body.

S: coffee, vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar and roasted malts.

T: this one is fairly sweet, mostly due to the vanilla up front and light milk chocolate in the finish. The coffee is well applied and doesn't overshadow but provides less bitterness than I would like. more roasty than bitter. oak notes as well.

M: medium body and high carbonation. too carbonated for my liking.

Overall: I would like a little more from the coffee. still overall a very nice beer.

A - Pours with one and a half fingers of light tan foam on top of a opaque, black body. The head settles slowly and leaves good lacing in the glass.

S - A dense, dark aroma of chocolate, espresso, rum, and vanilla.

T - Dark sugar and dense malt up front with a touch of nutty caramel in the middle. Finishes with slightly smoky coffee, spicy hops and a bit of anise.

M - Medium body, moderately high carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - Nicely done, the coffee is readily apparent, especially in the aroma where it adds an unusual complexity to the beer that would almost leave me wondering if it were barrel aged if I didn't know better.

Coffee colors and aroma hit right off the bat. Turbid, dark brown; thick, tannish head. Roasted coffee beans; burnt grains in the nose; acrid and pungent. Espresso flavor; rich, roasted grains; slight char taste; burnt toast; dark chocolate. Smooth, velvety feel; rich and sugary.

Coffee -- rich, deep roasted -- no cream, minimal sugar (though just enough to 'sweeten' things up just right. Delightful...

500ml bottle.

This beer pours a clear, very dark brownish amber hue, with two fingers of foamy, frothy beige head, which leaves a rain forest profile lace around the glass as it slowly seeps away.

It smells of pungent, musty bitter coffee grounds, an oily nuttiness, some mild bittersweet chocolate, and soft herbal, leafy hops. The taste is biscuity, bready malt, more medium cafe-infused chocolate, mild dark juicy fruit, a bit of charred grain, a twinge of lactic sweetness, and soft earthy, leafy hops.

The carbonation is rather innately reserved, the body a sturdy medium weight, and pretty silky in its overall smoothness. It finishes still on the sweet side, though generally tempered by the continuing espresso bitterness expression, and some beaten down noble hops.

A pretty well-rounded porter, big on the coffee guest star, sure, but the other attributes do not falter - that choco-lacto dryness/sourness is present and certainly accounted for here. A tasty tipple.

Pours nearly black, but more a super dark brown. Medium brown finger of head adorns and laces well. The aroma was nice, though not super in-your-face. More chocolate than coffee, but there's a good bit of roastiness. The taste gives more a coffee bitterness, roast, milk chocolate and more roasted malts. The feel is good, creamy, fairly full bodied.

Not out of this world, but it's really solid and above the curve as far as coffee beers goes.

Pours out a dark brown to black liquid with 1/2 finger of off-white suds that quickily dissipate.
The brew looks thin somehow.
Aroma is charred malts with a chocolaty coffee. I get some raisin and very little alcohol. There is a sharp smell of bitterness here that might be coffee and alcohol but it's hard to tell.
Taste is malty coffee and alcohol. For a 6.2% beer this seems not quite mature like it needed more time in the vats.
Mouthfeel is very clean and the coffee lingers just a tad before the alcohol takes over and finishes this hot brew out.
Overall this is a good try but for ten bucks I won't be buying this again.

Appearance is rich, dark brown with a big tan head and very nice lacing.

Nose is musty, with sweet malt, lactose, and some coffee.

Taste is sweet and roasted, with lactose, coffee grounds and espresso beans, and mild hops.

Mouthfeel is smooth; milk-like, with medium carbonation.

Overall, it is nothing special. The flavors are basic. But the roasted quality is quite good: not overdone and quite pleasant.

Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Served in an Alchemist pint glass.

A - Gusher alert! Pours with a giant head, roughly 50% of the glass, that finally settles to a thick cap and splotches of lace. Dark brown body that's chocolate-colored at the edges.

S - Nutty and mildy stale coffee ground flavor is unsurprisingly front and center, but there's also a vaguely metallic note. Slightly burnt toast, baking cocoa, hint of smoke, and some earthy, musty flavors.

T - Taste is again heavy on baker's chocolate and coffee, with some earthy grains mixed in for good measure. It's hard to tell if the acidity is from the coffee or some nascent infection. There's a touch of tart dark fruit at the tip of the tongue, while smoke, char, and lingering caramel round out the finish.

M - Dry, roasty, and grainy medium body, with moderately harsh carbonation. Thankfully there's no alcohol presence.

D - I'm not sure if there's brett in here, or if this is just really acidic and attenuated, but it's mildly fatiguing to drink. There are some nice flavors, but I can think of a half-dozen better coffee beers below this price point.

Great dark brown/black colour with a big, smooth, tan head. Fair head retention.

Earthy coffee aroma with some musty sweetness. Lacking clarity and intensity. Better as it warms but the bigger coffee aroma is teemed with more earthiness.

Rounded coffee flavour. Light sweetness. Some acid. Slightly earthy. There's something missing here but the base flavours are still good.

Medium-light body with moderately-high carbonation. Maybe it just needs a little dash more body to hold everything together.

This isn't a bad beer but for all the fantastic dark beers HaandBryggeriet do, this misses the mark. There isn't the intensity of the Akkevit Porter, Dark Force or Odin's Tipple. It's still a good beer but it doesn't grab me.

500ml bottle. Pours a hazy dark brown with a small tan head that quickly goes to a collar that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is lots of coffee, some roast and lactic chocolate with a little smoke and nuts.

The flavor is sweet nutty chocolate malts and roast coffee with a dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with very low carbonation.

Overall, it's one-dimensional but with great coffee notes. A little pricey at $10 a bottle - there are other more affordable coffee beers that are better.
