poured into tulip glass.
Appearance: Dirty purplish brown bodied beer with a thick white cap. Cap drops down a thin white ring around the glass.
Smell: jammy berries and tannic wet oak. Vinous with a slight balsamic vinegar note. Slightly musty funk.
Taste: moderately tart sour. Triple berry jam. Blueberries arent really noticeable, it just tastes like more of a berry medley. Huge wet oak presence with a hint of horse blanket funk. Hint of cardboard and a hint of vinegar. Lingering tart finish mixing with jammy and malty sweetness(think flanders red but with berries), and more tannic notes.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with low carbonation. The beer feels both slick and oily. This beer has surprising semi-dry finish that is slightly acidic like a wine. Quite drinkable sour at 7.5%; not a hint of booze to be found.
Overall: I have some mixed feelings about this beer. It boarders between a sour beer, a flanders red, and a wine made with berries. It was definately an enjoyable and fairly tasty sour, but I dont think of this beer as a blueberry sour by any means. The blueberries in this beer just werent there. I think that I will name a new beer style and call this beer a "Flanders Blue".

Shared bottle at local tasting. Hazy deep red colour. Aroma of brettanomyces pine forest and blueberries. Moderate carbonation. Light bodied for its strength. Medium sour flavour, notes of blueberries of course, but could use some more sweetness. Slightly astringent finish.

A - Very light, off white head, very dark ruby color to the body, quite opaque.
S - tart straight off the bat, very reminiscent to Flemish red sours. Almost medicinal smell to it. Cherry aroma, though it's a blueberry beer. Deep aroma, but not overwhelming... very nice.
T - Sweet upfront, that finishes tart... cherry skin notes. Not knock-you-back blueberry flavors, but much fruit flavor. Cherry sour lingers on the aftertastes but for the most part, a nice finish.
M - Medium bodied, I suppose... with a very light carbonation, lingers on the palate but nothing too heavy.
O - Review started a bit after the bottle was opened, so I might be a bit off with the carbonation. Very tasty beer but the overall flavor was more cherry than anything else... I would have this agaiN!

Bottle from Discount Liquors in Milwaukee. Served alongside HaandBryggeriet Blåbær.
The beer has a dark purple body with a hint of ruby. Small, pink head. The aroma brings a lot of blueberry, fleshy fruit, cherries, funk, brett, oak. Smells nice. Blueberry and cherry with funk. Sweet and sour, akin to a Flanders style ale. Moderate carbonation with a light puckering sensation in the back end. Tasty.

Bottle pour at the pre-FWIBF bottle share held at the Adelaide Inn in Paso Robles, CA.
Brewed 8/23/11. Bottled 11/21/12.
Pours a murky reddish-brown with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, berry, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour malt and berry flavors on the finish. There is a high amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty but very sour and acidic.

Pour is opaque ruby with a foamy tan head. Nose is strong blueberry, very fleshy and light note of sourness with a hint of earthiness. Body is light and soft, very smooth with assertive carbonation. Taste is blueberry forward with a fair amount of leather and brett presence, not much else but a nice drinker and fairly sour.
