Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is dark orange to amber with some sediment evident after the pour. Lots of frothy head that leaves good lacing on the glass. Aroma is full of sweet caramel malts and citrus hops. The hops tun to mostly grapefruit and pine on the flavor with a big sweet malt flavor. Very satisfying combination. Mouthfeel is slightly oily/syrupy with a long finish and bitter aftertaste that only takes a little from the overall beer.

Appearance: Burnt orange. Perfectly clear. Head is white, and leaves tons of sticky lacing. Head drops to a thin cap. Moderate carbonation.

Smell: Citrus. Orange flesh mingles with some more resinous pine notes. Sweet, slightly roasted malts. Dough. Touches of fresh tobacco leaf. Some orange rind.

Taste: Nice balance. Hops are a touch oily and orange zest is prominent. Some lingering bitterness. A touch pithy. Sweetness from the malts prevents it from becoming too aggressive on the hop front. As it warms it takes on a toast with orange preserves thing. Floral and a touch herbal.

Mouthfeel: Clean with a slight drying bitterness on the swallow. Body and carbonation are moderate. Drinks clean and easy.

Overall: Runs a bit heavy on the citrus for my taste, but that's not really a negative thing for the beer. Incredibly well balanced with tons of character. It's not an intro-IPA, but it's definitely something worth keeping on hand for those that love a little balance.
