Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
An onslaught of the senses. It starts with big, roasty malt flavor that gives way to rich caramel and toffee notes. YETI gets its bold hop character from an enormous quantity of American hops.

Bottled 10/24/17.

Pours the blackest of blacks. Completely opaque without a hint of another color even in highlight. Two-fingers of brown rocky head linger, as impenetrable as the body. Big bands of lacing stick to the glass as the liquid's level recedes.

Smells of dark roasted coffee, brown bread, vanilla and a touch of alcohol vapor.

Strong coffee taste. Sweet dark malts galore. Quite bitter (75 IBUs) without tasting particularly hoppy. The bitterness really lingers. The sweetness is right in line with the roastiness, and neither overpowers.

Mouthfeel is oh so creamy and smooth. Tiny bubbles of carbonation make this one easy to hold in the mouth. Sticky and resinous.

12 fl. oz. bottle from a four-pack
Bottling date shown as Nov 15 2017
Poured into a (GDBC Yeti) Snifter (thouroughly rinsed)

This beer appears black in-color and opaque. The head is about a finger and a half, foamy, tan in-color, and dissapates slowly.

An earthy, piney, almost "detergent-like" aroma dominates the nose with the briefest of whiffs of burnt sugar, roasted malt, and cocoa.

Full-bodied, alsmost chewy mouthfeel.

Taste corresponds to the nose, save the detergent. The roasted malt, toffee, cocoa characteristics are supressed by the earthy, piney hops.

Overall I was slightly disappointed with this beer even though the beer was as stated in the brewer's notes. The roasted malt, cocoa, toffee, and burnt sugar (caramel?) are there but overwhelmed by the almost palate-numbing hops. I will allow the other's to sit for aa little and revisit this again to see if the other flavors develop a more prominent, at least balanced, role in the beer.

L — Motor-oil black body with a lovely dark mocha head produced with aerated pour. 1,000 lumens passed through the glass does not shine through at all. Great retention and sticky lacing
S — Jackfruit, anise, sweet licorice, black birch, dark chocolate, herbal hoppiness, dish soap
T — Super roasty. Dark roast coffee and barley, bittersweet chocolate, char, tobacco leaf, strong black tea. I think a lot of the char-like bitterness is actually produced by the hops
F — Thick and chewy. Like drinking a cup of super-strong black coffee. Long, smokey char finish
O — Damn, this one's even more intense than Ten Fidy. Definitely a lower-ABV sipper\

Very smooth and creamy upfront, boozy on the back. Tons of chocolate and coffee. This one definitely exceeded expectstions, very surprised by this one.
