The pour is black color with a small brown head. Aroma is of dark fruity plum notes, roasted caramel malt, some notes of cacao and espresso. Taste same as aroma with some notes of licorice, and a good bit of dark malt and a kind of dry roasted espresso bitterness. Palate is a full rich body, mild carbonation, slight viscous mouth feel. Finish has some dark fruit plum notes, licorice with a rich dark malt cacao and espresso bitterness. Overall a very good full flavored and enjoyable brew.

Bottled on 1 Dec. '14 and rated on 16 Jan '16, so it's aged a year in the cooler. Absolutely the thickest beer we've ever poured. Pitch black with a rich brown head. Roasted grain aroma. Taste is malt, toffee and expresso. The IBU of 75 seems high, but perhaps it's the aging has mellowed them out. Lingering bitterness and a hint of licorice.

Poured into snifter. It pours a dark mahogany, virtually black, with a thick, creamy mocha-colored head and extensive lacing that lasted throughout the pour. It looks great! It smells of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee, with some slight smoke. It tastes of burnt coffee, dark chocolate, malt, toffee, and just a hint of dark fruit. It finishes with some hoppy bitterness which nicely balances the malt and chocolate. This stout is medium-bodied, creamy, and masks its 9.5% ABV quite well. You don't immediately notice it but it sneaks up on you. Overall, this is a very fine Russian Imperial Stout. The only improvements I can think of would be a little more more dark fruit and a little heavier in body. That said, it merits its excellent rating.

Had on tap
Pours jet black with a dark tan head that lingers throughout. Great appearance
Smells of roasted malts and chocolate
Tastes like a typical imperial stout/very chewy mouthfeel. Definitely has an alcohol bite on the end.
A decent beer

Real perfect looking substantial black, thick viscosity, full inch of tan head. Excels in the field of lacing and retention. Grip load of chocolate malt, deep roast.

Taste was thick, roasted chocolate malt notes. Substantial hopping and bitterness underneath it all.

Chewy but avoids the dark fruit bitterness that a lot of RIS get into trouble with.

Poured into a sniffer. Dark black color with a two finger, cappuccino head that receded slowly leaving three inches of lacing. Aroma of alcohol, oak, and roasted malt. Massive roasted malt, oak, caramel, and chocolate combine to make an almost barrel aged effect. The alcohol pokes it's strong head into the aftertaste. Full bodied and low carbonation with a hit of alcohol. Super creamy texture. Taste changed as it named up. The roasted malt and oak became more noticeable as it got warmer.
Very good imperial stout. It had been cellar aged for 6 months, which might've affected it. Creamy, complex, and very good.

Look - Dark oil black with caramel/chocolate colored one finger head

Aroma - Chocolate, coffee/expresso

Taste - roasted malt with a hop bitterness that linger...hints ofchocolate, coffee, sweet caramel throughout the flavor...well balanced stout

Feel - Full bodied...mild carbonation and very little alcohol flavor for this ABU

Overall - This was really good...I've had Old Rasputin and Founder Breakfast Stout near the top of my list and this is close...very well balanced, flavorful and smooth.

The Yeti from Great Divide was a very solid stout and definitely worth a try. It poured a rich opaque black with tan head that did not leave much lace. The scent and taste carried chocolate and coffee. The mouthfeel was fuller in body with good carbonation. Overall.....excellent.

Always excellent. Not in the first group of my favorite stouts, but definitely in the second! All of the variations are good, and this beer never disappoints. I like almost everything by this terrific brewery.

12oz. bottle poured into a porter glass.

A- Stout doesn't look any better. Pitch black, big coffee colored head. Fantastic lacing.

S- Chocolate, espresso, some kind of hops are there as well. Lactose as well. Aroma doesn't jump out of the glass as I thought it would.

T- Dark chocolate up front, with an espresso flavor and bitterness to balance. Some lactose type sweetness is there. Feint vanilla and charcoal. Citric hop bitterness on the finish hits with the espresso bitterness to really whack the palette on the backside.

M- thick, thick thick. Viscous. Light carbonation.

O- Very good stout, but the Mrs. didn't appreciate the hop additions. Certainly need to like stouts with a bit of a hop note to appreciate this one.

Pours deep black with a wide tan foam head, very little retention. Aroma is of malts, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, dark fruits. Taste is rich and complex, very solid Imperial Stout, coffee and chocolate notes are dominant, some alcohol and roasted malts. Great bold body with low carbonation. Excellent beer.

Poured from a bomber. Pours black with a big, brownish head made up of dense little bubbles. Aromas of roasted malts, a little smokiness, and some dark fruit on the end. Taste is malts up front, lots of roasted malts, followed by some chocolate and some lingering bitterness. Dark chocolate and milk chocolate flavors are clearly present. The aftertaste is of strong dark chocolate, while the flavor earlier is more milk chocolatey. Heavy, smooth, milky mouthfeel. Very full bodied, with a hint of carbonation. Definitely some noticeable booziness. Overall very good imperial stout. Let it warm up a bit and it's a great dessert on its own. Or, make a Yeti float!

Reviewed 9/9/12

L: Pours dark as a Biggie lyric on a bad day, with perhaps the darkest head I’ve ever seen on a beer, almost mahogany in color.

A: Delightfully complex. There’s a sort of lactic quality, like day-old coffee, with a strong roastiness undercut by pleasant sweet caramel. Strong hop aroma as well, with hints of wood.

T: This is a no-holds-barred stout. Aggressive hop and roast bitterness, which just lingers forever. Tastes like some of that 90% cacao dark chocolate drenched in alcohol. Finishes fairly sweet yet bitter.

F: About as full a body as a beer this big can have. Moderate carbonation. Some alcoholic warmth but rather tame for the abv.

O: An excellent imperial stout. Fabulously complex aroma, luscious mouthfeel, and not too alcoholic in the taste. It would be even better if they could bring the bitterness down a touch. I remember now why I saw fit to buy a poster for this beer back in the day.

L: Black, with a couple fingers of medium-brown head.

S: Roasted malts, chocolate, smoke.

T: Dark, roasted malts, chocolate, smoke, much stronger than the aroma.

F: Medium full body. Slightly less than average carbonation.

O: A delicious Russian imperial stout.

12 oz. bottle, bottled on Aug 10, 2015.

Black in color, opaque, with a two-finger, creamy, dark tan/brown head. Good head retention and a fair amount of lacing.

Heavy roasted/burnt malt aroma with plenty of chocolate and coffee. Not much complexity at all.

Taste follows the malty aroma but throws in a bunch of hops, which cause an intense bittersweet finish that lingers for a while.

Medium-full bodied. Thick texture despite the lively carbonation.

Overall, this is a straightforward, aggressively hopped, Imperial Stout. What it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in balance and just simple, good flavor. Make no mistake though, it's a big beer that hides its 9.5% ABV very well, so it can sneak up on you. Paired really well with some Jasper Hill Bayley Hazen Blue cheese. I'm throwing a bottle in the cellar to revisit in a year or so.

Bottled on June 17, 2015. 12 oz. bottle
A: Poured a dark black thick used motor oil consistency (I know that's a old tired description, but it works). A thin dark khaki latte type head that coats the inside of the glass. Beautiful!

S: Espresso, chocolate, slight amount of hop pine, roasty goodness.

T: Strong espresso, bakers chocolate, burnt caramel, brown sugar, bitter hops. Like chewing on a dark chocolate dipped espresso bean and a fresh hop at the same time.

M: Tongue coating goodness! Just a full mouth feel on this one, no surprise there. Not a hint of the 9.5% abv.

O: A great beer! Everything you would want from a non-BA Imperial Stout; roasty, chocolaty, hoppy! Just all around delicious. A sipper that is hard to just sip.

Poured into a snifter at cellar temperature. This looks thick, and is coal black. It had a big two finger mocha head. I was surprised at the retention given the ABV. This is a great looking brew. The aroma is roasted malt with hints of coffee and chocolate. Some dark fruit in the background too. The flavor follows the nose, with a little hint of hops, or perhaps that's more of a coffee bitterness. The alcohol stays well hidden. This body is rich and full. Man, this is a nice smooth sipper. Highly recommended....

My first beer that I give a perfect score. Nice rich chocolate, coffee, vanilla to the nose and with a slight berry scent at the end. Beautiful mouth feel from start to finish with no excessive bitterness. Beautiful brown/black with a chocolatey head which disappears quickly. Bought this while on a trip on impulse and I am so glad I did! Bottled almost a year ago. Fandamntastic!

Aroma - medium- high coffee, red wine, blueberry note, low level caramel, cocoa and earth, medium piney/ resinous hop character, higher pear note, very harmonious and enticing, no strong alcohol

Flavor- rounded dark, fresh fruit character really comes out, almost like a fruit- forward pinot noir. Very pleasing. Medium- high sweetness, chocolate character is high, with bittersweet bakers chocolate, black currant, and background coffee flavors stacked in dimishing intensity. medium resinous hop flavor, with secondary herbal and minty dimensions, with medium high hop bitterness in a longbbittersweet finish. Light note of cigarette tobacco w warmth.

MF - full bodied, sticky and creamy at once medium- low carbonation, no harsh astringency, no alcohol heat, slight numbing on palate

APP - pitch black, opaque, persistent, foamy, espresso head with excellent lace.

Overall- excellent, standout features are sweetness, wine-like character, lack of noticeable alcohol or aggressive roast, and high american hop character

I live in Denver so I was lucky enough to get a bottle that was bottled 4 days prior to my consumption. Poured into a pint glass.
Look: Very dark with a nice dark khaki head. The head does not fade greatly over time. It went from 1 finger to a half finger. When sloshed around it is a little more watery than I would like, so I deducted .25 points (for a solid 4.75 points, this shit it is awesome).
Smell: A little bit herbal. Someone in the comments said rum-soaked raisins. 100% agree. Chocolate, charcoal or maybe smoke. Musky and awesome.
Taste: Dark. Chocolate. Coffee and some vanilla extract. YES.
Feel: A little fizzy, but not too much for a stout. Thicker than I would expect from the look of it.
Overall: Great beer. 10/10 will drink again. This has a prominent spot in my fridge.

12oz, dated 08/10/2015, snifter, cellar temperature. Pours perhaps a little darker than a standard imperial stout, with a nice chocolate-colored head, that lasts; very nice lacing when swirled. The aroma is of dark, roasted malts and dark fruits, with a hint of booze. The taste is strongly of roasted malts (almost burnt), some chocolate, a bit of hops, with a dry finish. Full, rich and creamy mouth-feel.

I expected a lot from this beer, and it met and perhaps even exceeded my expectations. The appearance and aroma are nearly unparalleled in any imperial stout I have previously encountered. The effect on the palate is powerful--full and rich--and the malts and hops are nicely balanced. This is very smooth (can't even taste the alcohol) and thus dangerously drinkable. If I were to have anything critical to say about it, it is that I would like it to be a bit sweeter--but that's a personal preference. I am amazed at how good this is fresh, and I very much look forward to seeing how it ages.
