HERCULES DOUBLE IPA is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, fit for the gods. HERCULES delivers a huge amount of hops from start to finish. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malty sweetness balances its aggressive hop profile. 85 IBUs.

A: Hazyish orange with a white ring of head.

S: Orange, citrus peel, mango, tangerine and a hint of grass and pine in the nose.

T: Citrus, lemon, orange, pine, and a touch of grass.

M: Full bodied and smooth for an IPA which is nice.

O: A great DIPA, flavors were off a bit (they didn't taste extremely fresh or authentic, though they were still pretty good), otherwise I'd have given it higher ratings.

My first double IPA and it did not disappoint at all. Sitting at a hefty 10% ABV it didn't feel like it. It went smooth, while still retaining the hoppy characteristics of an IPA. The balance of this brew is not to be underestimated, you may see the 10% and think it to be strong/overpowering but it is not. It's a very evenly balanced beer that can be enjoyed by anyone from seasoned IPA drinkers to those venturing out of their comfort zone unto IPA territory.

If you see this on-tap, do not hesitate to try this brew, you will not regret it.

12 oz into pint glass. BAM! This is an double-barreled shotgun of an IPA. Nice and strong but balanced enough to want more than one. My first "double-IPA" but I like the big, bold character of this brew. Yet another powerhouse from Great Divide. Cheers!

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice glass. Bottled on December 13, 2013.

Appearance: Pours a deep copper amber orange with a moderate amount of rising bubbles. Solid two fingers of off white head which slowly fade into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A earthy, floral, and juicy hop forward aroma with big hints of grass, pine, and citrus. Upfront mix of earthy, floral, and herbal hops. Dank hints of wet grass and spicy pine resin. Citrus hop hints of orange peel, grapefruit, lemon, tangerine, and pineapple. Bready scent of malt with hints of caramel, grains, biscuit, cracker, and yeast. A very good earthy aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a very earthy and piney hop forward taste with big notes of grass and citrus. Big mix of earthy, herbal, and floral hops upfront. Wet taste of grass. Big presence of dank pine resin. Citrus hop taste with notes of orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, and pineapple. Sweet and bready malt background with notes of caramel, biscuit, grains, yeast, and cracker. Very hop forward as expected. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very juicy, oily, and chewy. Finishes pretty dry. Alcohol heat is masked well.

Overall: A very good Imperial IPA. Its more earthy hop driven than the more citrus driven West Coast style. Very good piney notes.
