HERCULES DOUBLE IPA is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, fit for the gods. HERCULES delivers a huge amount of hops from start to finish. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malty sweetness balances its aggressive hop profile. 85 IBUs.

The pour: This beer is a golden orange with average head. It leaves lace on the glass as the beer disappears. Funny how they all disappear, huh?

Smell: I detect hops, a pinch of pine and fruit.

Taste: Hops at the front end that continues through the sip. A good bitterness that lingers for a few seconds after swallowing. I like this IPA. Taste includes a sweetness in the background (honey-like), but is mostly hops and grapefruit. There is a notable citrus toward the end of each sip. I do not taste the alcohol, which is a good thing. Considering the 10%, I am shocked.

Mouthfeel is smooth with a tinge of bite at the end.

In summary, this is a tasty IPA with a good balance of complex flavors and bitterness. I will visit Hercules again! I am also curious to try other Great Divide varieties as this was my first.

Rich and hazy copper/amber appearance with a finger-thick tan head. Bananas, grapefruit, cloves, fresh hops, rye and citrus malts on the aroma. Fresh hops, molasses, honey, lemongrass and wheat on the initial sip. Lots of bready, malty flavors with a big hit of fresh hops. Boozy oak follows. A moderately carbed brew with a floral, earthy, strong, full overall body. Aftertaste is composed of citrus, honey and a mild fruity sweetness. Given Great Divide rarely disappoints, this is a fantastic Double IPA.

I really liked this beer - it reminded me of the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. The only weird thing is it had a bunch of floaties. It was like drinking a home brew - I had to leave the last 1/4" in the bottom.

Beyond that, this beer is actually on the sweeter side given that it's an IPA. Lots of malty citrus on the front end, some nice balanced fresh hop bit on the back. The alcohol was easier to detect compared to the Dogfish Head 90.

great beer enjoyed alot this past week. much better than their barleywine (old ruffian). big american fruity citrus hops, huge caramel malt background. which i dont mind at all, give me tons of malts, tons of hops, lots of alcohol, and hide it well. didnt notice much difference between my growler and the bottles. sweet, smooth, strong and very satisfying. would (and did) get this one again. recommended.

Pours a red/brown color with a one finger off-white head that settles to a film. As I drink it leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is of caramel malt and grassy and citrus hops. Taste starts with the malt, then I get some resin and floral hops. The sip concludes with more candi malt flavors. Mouthfeel is a little on the heavy side, average carbonation. Definitely an east coast IPA.
