O! M! G!

Appearance: You wanna talk dark... don't think I've ever seen a beer as dark as this. Even the head is dark- a rather dark brown.
Smell: Usually, when I read about the wood in which a beer is aged, I almost have to take their word for it. But, with this beer, I actually *smelled* the oak. Very impressive.
Taste: And the hits just keep on coming. Incredibly rich, malty backbone, with just the littlest bit of hops hanging around. I even taste a bit of chocolate.
Mouthfeel: It's almost creamy.

Do you get the impression that I loved this beer?

Poured into a Great Divide balloon glass.

Look: Opaque blackness, the color of the darkest dark chocolate. A mocha colored head recedes somewhat quickly leaving a thin collar, while very light random lines and odd shapes of lacing remain on the glass.

Aroma: Chocolate and cocoa come through very well with a nice woody oak note. A hint of spiciness.

Taste: Perfectly balanced between roasted coffee, chocolate notes, and oak barrels. Not one flavor dominates the other, although the finish has a lot more oak in it, and perhaps a touch of alcohol on the tongue, but not much.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth.

Overall: This was a true delight. I was fearing there wood be too much wood and not enough of the other flavors. I was wrong, it's very well balanced.

Pours beautiful dark brown-black and very thick and viscous. Really clings to the edge of the glass, with a dark brown finger of foam.

Dark chocolate, heavy roasted/burnt/smoky notes, and a boat load of wood and earthy aroma.

Roasted/burnt flavors, slight coffee-like notes, and again tons of oak/wood and earthy flavors. Too much so for my taste.

Heavy-bodied, light-medium carbonation, earthy, bitter, and oh so dry.

Overall, I should have expected the heavy oak/wood aroma and flavor, but this was just a bit too extreme for my taste, still very good regardless.

This beer is unquestionable overhyped. It's an incredibly dry stout -- to the point where I had to chase this with water. Some what like drinking soy sauce.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours like motor oil--thick and black. Thin caramel-colored head. Lacing coats the glass. Gives off a scent of the roasted malt but can sense the alcohol. The roasted malt is the dominant flavor but there's an occasional sweet moment before the hops leave a bitter aftertaste. I wish the sweetness had a little more staying power. Overall very good but overly bitter. (8.0)

This beer was amazing! very heavy looking beer with a pretty high alcohol content, but this beer went down surprisingly very smooth! one of the better stouts I've had. I highly recommend this one for any one who likes dark beer and stouts.

Poured into a snifter from a 22 oz bomber.

Appearance: Jet black, completely opaque, viscous, with a one finger mocha head. Lacing coats the glass with thick syrupy goodness.
Smell: Deep roasted coffee with cocoa and vanilla. Notes of dark fruit and oak.
Taste: Flavor is bitter coffee and mocha with a bit of sweet malt. Finish is bitter and lingering - like an IPA. Just a hint of booze.
Mouthfeel: Full-body with good carbonation. Very smooth and velvety. Should be sipping beer, but I find myself sipping nearly constantly!
Overall: Really good stout with a lot of hop bitterness. One of my favorite stouts.

color is an opaque,deep brown, pours a half finger of dark brown head. Aroma is nice, coffee, chocolate, and interestingly some hoppy pine as well. Taste is bitter espresso and cocoa upfront,followed by a grainy, malty taste, then an earthy, piney bite. Texture of the beer is quite thin, with pretty high carbonation. overall i was quite underwhelmed, for an oak aged stout i found that this beer lacked balance, the hoppy flavor was not welcome in an imperial stout and did not compliment the rich, malt flavors in my opinion. some sweetness would have gone a long way.

L (4.5) – This beer looks and acts much like it’s non-oak brother. Real nice deep color. Nice bit of head on top.

S (4.25) – You get a bit of the oak smell right off the bat, and then the normal stout smells. Very malty, and a little coffee smell.

T (4.5) – This tastes like old aged Yeti (which it is). Keep in mind that oak aged =/= bourbon barrel aged. So you get the nice oak/wood tastes, but still get to taste the beer itself. I don’t get as much of the boozy taste as regular Yeti, but some.

F (4.25) – Very good mouthfeel. Carbed appropriately and smooth to drink. Lovely.

O (4.25) – I was (and am) a big fan of Yeti. So I thought that the Oak-Aged would be a good option. And it is. I might take a regular Yeti over this one many times, but I’m not sure why. They’re both solid. They should both be in your cellar at all times.

L: Pours absolutely tar black. Thick, red-brown head that tastes creamy and resembles the foam atop a French press of coffee.

S: Hops! How weird for a stout to smell so much like an IPA. The intense hop presence appears to be from the original, pre-aged Yeti.

T: A hoppy taste as well! Oak is present, for sure as is the fruity bite of an IPA. This sounds bad, but it tastes like a yeti - dark, rich, robust, and bitter.

F: Chews like fluffy clouds with mass. Rounded edges.

O: It's a stout with attitude for sure. Your mouth feels like it does after drinking an IPA. A little tacky, but delicious. It's a very, very unique stout that takes the ale aspect to 11.

L: dark with a distinct reddish tint

S: residual sugar, hops are far back in the distance.

T: coffee dark chocolate with smoky vanilla mid palate. Vanilla lingers until it is covered up by bittering hops at the end. More hops than I would have expected, but it works.

F: silky

O: Big beer with a variety of flavors flowing in, out around, coffee, followed by chocoalte giving way to vanilla until the hops sweep everything aside. After the hop tide has passed, the chocolate and something else, I can't figure out comes back. The hops are more pronounced than expected, but the oaking does do something for the beer.

Bought a snifter at the Magic Tree Pub in OH. Midnight black with a dark cocoa-tinged head (reduced to lacing quickly), looked like a stout-lover's wet dream. Notes of chocolate and vanilla, mild oak, bitterness (go Yeti), and a hint of smoke/tobacco on the nose. Flavors really came through will all of the above mentioned players (aromas) at the party on my tongue. Especially dominant were the chocolate and bitterness, and overall nice balance prevailed. Will have to try this again, I feel like I scarfed it a bit quickly because it was so good! Imagine that more flavors might have emerged... man was this tasty. Medium to hearty mouthfeel as expected. This was a 'NAILED IT' type of beer. Not to mention half-price on Mondays so it put me back about $3. Cheers. Find this.

A: Coal black and nice lacing mocha head

S: mostly a malty roasty wood smell

T: hoppy bitterness with a malty roast finish not very sweet and once if warms you can taste the wood

M: full bodied and creamy

O: I remember liking this beer better a year ago I think it is the hoppiness I don't care for but overall it's a good beer if you like a more hop forward stout which I don't feel is my cup of tea anymore.

The regular Yeti is an excellent, bitter Imperial Stout, but the oak aging sends it "over the top," imparting a lovely sweetness and complexity that makes it one of the most memorable beers of the year. Had it at Far Bar in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles.

Dark brew topped with a thick, dark brown head. Very good retention, and thick lacing.

Dry, earthy aroma; roasted barley, oak, and dark chocolate.

Dark flavor, rich in chocolate and roast, with strong bitter components from the hops and oak chips.

Thick and creamy full mouthfeel. Not chewy. Not particularly hot. Fairly lively.

This is a very good stout, although Great Divide's level of hops make this a rather particular brand of stout. The oak chips add yet another twist to the flavor that some may not like.

22oz bomber poured into Darkness goblet.

A: Pours a rich inky black with massive, fluffy, mocha brown head that expands over the top of the glass.

S: Nice and simple. Roasted coffee, chocolate, and oak.

T: I definitely pick up the oak up front. Lots of dark roasted coffee - rich, bitter, and burnt. There's also a little vanilla and a pretty substantial hop presence.

M: Lacking some viscosity here. While still smooth and creamy and nice, I have to dock for lack of body.

O: A delicious, coffee forward stout. The oak and heavy hops really round off the heavy malts. Quite drinkable and doesn't seem boozy in the least. A very good purchase overall.

On tap in a flight at Rattle n Hum, NYC. I've had The Yeti before but not in this guise. There is a smoky nose that foretells of the blast of char on the first taste.Not the usual hotness that I find in many big ABV veshicles, but don't be fooled, this is a massive stout. Yeti, indeed!

Pours a black like oil, with the same type of viscosity, khaki colored head, light and foamy. Oak, chocolate, vanilla, and plenty of roasted malt on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with roast and oak.

I love this beer. I had bought a couple bottles of GDBC's coffee imperial stout due to my love of coffee imperials and my brother wanting to try this one out. Great beer but this one is even better. Without the coffee this beers' caramel and oak flavors come out much better. Very thick and tasty. The smell alone makes you not want to share with others.

Big ASS beer. Awesome. Flavors are very sophisticated chocolate (Godiva, not Hershey's), and a BIG BITE at the end when the Oak Aging hits you. Very boozy. Massive beer. This bad boy is a 10 to me. I've got to take this one over the Founder's Breakfast Stout. Will wait for KBS to see if that overtakes this one, but for now, this reigns supreme for me in the world of Stout.

Super dark. Even the head (whcih is low but thick) is one of the darkest I've ever seen in a beer. Smell is roasty, to the point of seeming bitter. Lots of coffee, oak.

Taste is a bit lighter than the smell would imply, and is actually quite drinkable. A balanced imp stout that decently hides its ABV.

Taste is rather sweet but I like that. Lots of chocolate and roasted malt. Not much coffee as others. Finish is a little bitter but not overly.

Mouthfeel is quite viscous with a little carbonation.

Overall, one of the best and most satifying stouts I have had in a while if ever. Well done; actually a great beer.

Pours pitch black with half inch head. Head dissipates fairly quickly.This beer was bottled on9/23/2013 and i think drinking a year after bottling is perfect. Nose is of roasted toffee, malts coffee, molasses and vanilla which is heavenly.The taste is very similar to the smell also heavenly with rich mouth feel, thick delicious . I had the same beer about six months ago and I'm not sure but it may have been younger than this beer and i remember it had a lot more bitterness to it. This beer is perfectly balanced, it has warmed to almost room temp now and is getting better as I drink it. One of the best RIS I have tried, the oak aging has mellowed and smoothed out any rough edges.World Class Russian Imperial Stout.

Bottled on 9/26/14: Pours motor oil pitch black color with a creamy 2 finger brown head that was full of tiny bubbles and faded slowly, leaving incredible foamy lacing coating the sides and a layer on top.

Huge coffee and chocolate smells up front, followed by oats, charred wood, vanilla, burnt coffee grinds, roasted grains, molasses, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, espresso, piney hops, roasted nuts and booze like a mix of bourbon and merlot which must be from the oak aging. Coffee, roasted notes, cocoa and booze all meld together and seem to fuse the complex aroma into a sweet attack on your nasal passage that is down-right pleasant if you like imperial stouts. There are a whole lot of earthy and grainy oat notes to go along with the booze, oak barrel, coffee and chocolate dominance, but the subtle whiffs of vanilla, dark fruit, licorice and hops really make this quite a treat to inhale.

Taste is so close to the nose that it’s scary; this beast is a combo of coffee, roasted grains, molasses, oats, dark chocolate, charred wood, vanilla, burnt coffee grinds, cocoa powder, espresso, pine cone/piney hops, roasted nuts, dark fruits like cherry or a chocolate dipped raisin, oaky wood and booze like bourbon or a dark rum. The smokiness of the oak and grains makes this a tad sweeter and more boozy, but it seems to unleash the complexities and variety of rich roasted and charred earthy tones that allows the vanilla, brown sugar and seems like syrup to ooze through with the roasted coffee bitterness that mixes well with the leafy hop spices that cruise in the background. It is very complicated with a lot going on, like all of its Yeti siblings, and this oaky version adds a nice different dynamic to the base Yeti while still delivering delicious flavor. The booze does show through so this is another slow sipper.

Mouthfeel is thick and chewy, with a heavy dense body, mild carbonation, a thin feel on the tongue and mild heat from the booze that trials off bitter, oaky and sweet at the same time with coffee, char, grains and cocoa notes that leave your mouth dry.

Another great Yeti stout that I thoroughly enjoyed and will seek out again. Complex and like a meal in a bottle, the Great Divide Yeti series of stouts has not let me down yet, so I recommend trying this great brew.
