A: pours a deep jet black with a tannish color of head. About ½ fingers worth of head formation, some lacing but not too much.

S: I immediately pick up on the huge sweet oak notes and bourbon along with moderate amount of figs, molasses and minor chocolate. There is also a slight grassy hop note lying in the background

T: Oak and hop bitterness dominate the palate, but more hoppiness than anything else. There is a slight chocolate and mild vanilla creaminess, but its immediately drawn away from the hoppy finish. Alcohol is present but its complimentary to the beer. Complexity definitely lacking on this one (unlike the bottle stating “Massively Complex”.)

M: Full body, actually quite nice for this beer. Moderate carbonation. It fits for this brew

O: Not all that impressed with this one. Bottle isn’t lying when it states “huge hops”… Bitter hops and strong oak are the main charactesr in this bee. I usually enjoy GDB’s offerings, but this one I can go without.

Review from 5/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours black with a small, fine brown head and lacing. Aroma of oak, toasted malt and chocolate. Oak woody up front with dark toasted and caramel malts and caramel, a hint of smokiness. Woody, chocolaty, malty finish. Nice heavy bodied, thick and creamy. Excellent!

22oz into a pint

A - Pours black as night, thick, solid. Mocha colored head formation. 1 to 2mm in height, breaks down slowly.

S - Chocolate, yeast, and a little bit of nutiness. Comes off mostly sweet. Hopping started to show up as it warmed.

T - Starts off lightly bitter, chocolate, heavy malts. Mid-stream brought on more hopping and bitterness, and more of a hint of roast. Finished with a breadiness from the yeast. Aftertaste was a bit more of a harsh oak graininess.

M - Full bodied beer, moderate carbonation. Alcohol warmth is present as it sticks to the tongue.

O/D - A very good RIS with the oak playing a lesser role. Can be a sipper, awfully filling. Alcohol will sneak up on you.

A: poured strongly to a two-finger caramel head, great lacing as the head dissipates

S: strong chocolate malt smell

T: chocolate taste and the oak taste stays in the back of the throat for a long time

M: very thick and creamy, little carbonation but seems just right

O: This is a very good beer with a strong flavor. The oakiness is definitely present in the taste but is a delight.
