Mexican Chocolate YetiMexican Chocolate Yeti
Notes: Another variation on the classic Yeti Imperial Stout, we added a variety of spices, vanilla and coffee to invoke the flavors of a Mexican hot chocolate (traditionally called champurrado). Spiced chocolate drinks have been part of Aztec and Mayan cuisine and culture for centuries, but they have yet to be paired up with a Yeti!

Poured from 19.2oz tall can into a dimpled mug. Canned March 2020.

Appearance: extremely, completely, totally black, with three fingers of densely frothy brown foam atop. This beer looks like it means business.

Smell: a rich roastiness with lots of chocolate and vanilla; there's a bit of a vegetal quality here that I find to be a distraction, but otherwise it's very good.

Taste: a good blend of chocolate and vanilla, paired with the roastiness of the stout. There's definitely a spicy element here as well; cinnamon and/or chilis, maybe? It's balanced yet complex; I really like it.

Mouthfeel: big body with a moderate carbonation and a good creaminess. Frankly I might expect _more_ creaminess, but ... this isn't bad at all.

Overall: this is a sweet, complex, interesting beer; I feel like I'm warming to it as I drink it. Great stuff.

pour is densely black with a huge, thick, fluffy deep cinnamon cap of foam. 2 fingers with excellent retention.
nose is huge wave of fresh roasted coffee, blended with cinnamon and a touch of pepper, perhaps?
taste follows. fresh coffee upfront. chocolate, roasted malt in the middle, fading to a nice coating layer of cinnamon and a touch of peppery heat. subtle touch of fudge, vanilla. excellent beer.
thick, creamy mouthfeel. lingering coffee / cinnamon.

Canned September 18th 2019.

Pours a pitch black with an impressive head of tan foam. Oh wait...where did the foam go??

The chocolate nose is massive! There's coffee for sure, but there's something else in the smell that reminds me of dark pitted fruit. I suppose that I could confess it with the ample abv?

Taste is chocolate to the extreme. Coffee well represented. Taste has a milky/lactose sweetness to my palate. Alcohol is not hidden that well. Bit of a burn during the swallow.

Full bodied with medium carbonation. This is kinda hot, peppery. Nice sipper but I reckon that with the one, I'm done.

Picked up a 32 oz Growler from Kings Beer and Wine on 5/25/18 for $9.00.

Beer poured black as night with a nice tan head with the initial pour. Some residual head remains after several sips.

Nose is vanilla, dark cocoa, and coffee, quite nice!

Taste is a wonderful mix of dark cocoa and coffee, with a touch of vanilla and some hot pepper that leaves a touch of heat as it goes down the pipe.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and silky smooth.

Overall this is my favorite variant of the Yeti series. I totally enjoy this style of beer! Recommended if you can find it and very reasonably priced compared to similar in its class.

this is money. on tap at green valley ranch beer garden, its a total winner, one of my favorite variants on yeti in some time, the cinnamon really stands out in it, but there seems to be coffee and cocoa and such as well, its wintery, warming, hearty, and it leaves the beauty of the original beer well enough in tact to be appreciable even with everything else that is going on with this, they nailed it! cinnamon in the nose but not hot, an earthy natural wintery thing, coupled with dry cocoa, a little spice, and all the bitter roastiness of the original beer that lingers on long on the palate, with a little coffee thing that seems to accent all of that. there is great complexity to this, a ton of richness, and i i think as bold as all the flavors are, its balanced and freakishly drinkable. it makes perfect sense, like this should have existed all along. i had it next to the smore and the chocolate cherry versions, and this was the standout for my money. its easy to forget how great yeti is, and these variants have been a blast. dont miss this one while its around this fall!

Midnight black body; head is decent, thin yet frothy and sticky, tan colored. Big sweet chocolate and charred grain aroma; spicy; cocoa and vanilla. Milk chocolate base, sweet; cinnamon, anise and cloves; chili powder; cocoa and vanilla; some bitterness at the finish. Heavy body; thick and chewy; oily; tons of residual sugar body; chili pepper heat; warm.

This is an outstanding chocolate-forward imperial stout. It seems to have a nice chili pepper component to it which breaks up the heavy sweetness both in taste and mouthfeel. Rich and complex, and a fine heavy ale sipper.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thick brown head that dissipates to a moderate film with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate; does smell a lot like Mexican chocolate. Flavor follows extremely closely to the aroma, nice milky dark toasted malt and Mexican chocolate ingredients with a little bit of chili bite at the end. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Yeti is one of my favorite standby stouts, so this Mexican chocolate variant didn't have to do much to win my heart. Very faithful balance of flavors to match the south of the border chocolate and great integration. Looks, smells and tastes great. I'm not that fond of these stovepipe cans for big beers because it's a bit too much for one sitting, but I'd certainly get this again in a smaller format.
