22oz bottle purchased at Julio's, Westboro, MA. Gold foiled cap.

Poured into a heavy glass chalice, formed a 1/2" orangey dark brown head over the opaque dark brown/black brew. Head falls gradually down to an uneven layer of bubbles, with leggy slow-falling lace. Aroma is sweet coffee and light alcohol. Taste starts richly sweet, gives a peek of coffee in the middle, heads out with a coffee bitterness that fades in alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel is quite smooth, with pretty good drinkability for the style. Liked the CHocolate version better.

Found this one at Julios randomly...

A: Awesome look. Dark as night with a nice thick mocha head that slowly disipates.

S: Smells slightly hoppy with nice oak eminating through the nose. Not much else going on in the scent.

T: Eh, not too crazy about this one. A little too hoppy with not enough coffee taste to be called "Espresso". Tastes kind of like a regular Oak Aged Yeti. Kind of disappointing.

M: Aweome amount of carbonation. Helps to make this brew much better.

D: Goes down mediocre. A little hard because of the hoppiness. It would been great with more coffee flavor.

All in all, this is a little bit disappointing. I thought it would be better than it was. I expected more coffee flavor for an espresso oak aged. It just tasted like a standard oak aged.

Bottled on either Mar or May 06 2009. Poured from a 22oz bottle into a snifter. Emerges pitch black with no light penetration. Topped by a huge, creamy, foamy light chocolate covered head. Beautiful and perfect in both size and structure. Lacing creats a veil impenetrable by light or sight.

Aroma was a bit of a let down. Not a whole lot of espresso or coffee aromas. Mostly chocolate and raisins and figs and licorice. Sweet and alcoholic with a touch of bakers chocolate.

Certainly a bit of the espresso emerges in the flavor. The coffee makes its way to the palate about midway through; preceded by sweet chocolate and followed by bittersweet chocolate. Their is a bit of astringency and a weird kind of metallic/raw alcohol flavor, kind of like cheap vodka. The espresso bitterness really lends itself toward the end but is a bit earthy and almost like tree bark.

Full bodied with a bit of astrigency. Good beer overall. Some weird flavors going on though. Not sure if it is from the espresso or just off flavors all around. Cant quite put my finger on why, but this one needs a little bit of rounding out.

Poured a motor oil brown, almost black but not quite. Had a chocolate very clingy head that left awesome lacing the whole way down.

Smell was like opening a grinder full of fresh ground coffee. Pretty intense. A little toasty malt as well but thats about it.

Flavors were very complex and changed as the drink warmed. First sips were mostly bitter coffee flavor. As the beer warmed I detected vanilla, piney hop flavor, roasted malts, and a slight caramel. Very nice indeed.

Mouthfeel was medium bodied but coated the palate nicely. Drinkability was good but the alcohol gets a little apparent when it warms up.

Pours opaque black, huge fluffy coffee stained head with impressive retention. Spotty lacing left along sides of the snifter after each sip.

The aroma is slightly understated. Not nearly as strong as I had anticipated. No one smell is really standing out over another. Chocolate, oak, hop, and vanilla aromas mesh well together on the forefront. I am struggling to find anything but subtle coffee scents. Slight whiffs of alcohol are noticed.

The espresso come through much more clearly in the taste. Large amounts of coffee flavors up front followed closely by bittersweet chocolate. Lingering bitterness is hard to differentiate between espresso and hops. The vanilla and the oak flavors are present yet seemingly overwhelmed by the coffee's presence. Slight alcohol taste but not enough to be put off by it.

Full bodied while maintaining a smooth and almost creamy texture.

Tremendously drinkable assuming you are a coffee drinker. Drinks relatively easy given the size and complexity. Very enjoyable.

Great Divide- Espresso Oak Aged Yeti- Bottled on: 2/12/10
Just over 4 months old

A- Black all the way. Nice brown lacy head, does not stay long.

S- Deep dark chocolate and coffee smells. The smell is great.

T- Woody from the start. Espresso comes in midway and finished with another hit of the oak. I would have liked some more espresso with this one.

M- Full and smooth. A little bitter.

D- No question this one is drinkable, not much alcohol presence.

slowly making my way through the 22oz bombers of Yeti variants. My ratings have been consistently lower than the BA community, and this follows suit, so take that into context. Loved the look and aroma of this beer. Black body with a thick brown head that lasts. Looks fantastic. Big aroma of coffee, fudge, bakers chocolate, cocoa and oak. Taste is very bitter - all coffee and coca nibs - and leaves behind a thick coating in the mouth followed by a heavy oaken taste. The flavors stand out individually but they don't work for me in concert. Alcohol is noticeable but not pronounced. Big bitter coffee stout without enough sweetness to balance it out.

Pours black with a dark brown head that lasted only a little while. The aroma is coffee, chocolate and a little boozy. The taste is coffee and chocolate too, but the alcohol taste make it too harsh. Feel is creamy and heavy. Drinkability is fair and would be better without the alcohol taste.

The beer pours an oil black color. It is totally opaque and gives off a russet brown head of one finger. It looks to be lingering.

The smell is fantastic. The first smell is of bitter dark chocolate, then I pick up some raspberry notes, then if floats to a marshmallow scent, followed by a coffee scent. You could go on forever describing different smells in this beer. It's nose is very complex. The most general smell is like one of those pink filled dark chocolates that come in the terrible Valentine's Day assorted chocolates.

This beer doesn't taste like a 9.5% brew. It hides it's alcohol very well. It is however very very thick. It kind of tastes like that chocolate too. Mostly though it tastes like chocolate and marshmallow. It's fairly bitter, which I guess is from the Espresso. Honestly I was expecting more coffee in this one.

Mouthfeel is extremely full. This is a chewy beer.

Drinkable in the sense that it's smooth and not overpowering with it's Imperial-ness. It might take me a while to drink it though. I almost want to drop some ice cream in it.

A - black, dark with a one finger tan head that holds for a decent amount of time, good lacing all around the glass

S - strong coffee and chocolate smell

T - again, coffee and chocolate

M - very smooth, no harsh aftertaste

D - too strong of a coffee smell for me to drink this too many times but the one bomber was delicious and would definitely recommend it to others

Pours a deep black with a milk chocolate colored head two finger head. Nice lacing and retention. Aroma of oak, vanilla, cherry and a hint of hops and espresso. Very big and busy flavor. Starts with a kick of hop resin before turning to a slight coco and dark chocolate malt. Then the oak aging really kicks in. Good oak, cherry and vanilla flavors before an espresso kick to finish. Really busy, and not all that cohesive.

Pours cola-black with dissipating cinnamon head. Aroma of Coke float with chocolate ice cream and some brownies and coffee/toffee. Flavors of dark chocolate, cola, coffee, cinnamon, slight bourbon. Medium-thick body with a soda feel. So the Yeti went to Starbucks and confused us all. A nice brew but sometimes the original can't be beat.

Very dark. Can't see lacing. Little to no head light ring of foam.
Smell Coffee and roasted notes.

Taste bold very much esspresso and hops. After taste is almost all coffee. keep in mind this is espresso not coffee, and the boldness and complexity comes through as well.

Mouthfeel. Can't decide reminds me of ipa with a shot of espresso, lots of hops. Hits easy then flavors explode and go to a mild after taste that sticks in your mouth for a long time.

Drinkability? The flavor sticks so heavy I can't say I could take more than one or 2 of these.

Overall not sure, it's a niche thing. Def interesting. I could see this being something I crave on the rare occasion but not something I'd drink often.

Poured into a snifter at TJ's on 6/25. Reviewed from detailed notes.

Pour is pitch black capped by a creamy half inch of milk chocolate head. Intricate laced patterns emerge on the walls of my glass, a nice mix of lacy lines and delicate spots. Swirls of bubbles sit atop the dark liquid after the head subsides.

The aroma is full of rich espresso, dark roasted malts, chocolate, and a touch of caramel. I am really looking forward to tasting this. On the palate, chocolate and coffee dominate the forefront. The coffee, though, is a but off-putting, as it tastes synthetic and is not very appealing. The chocolate and fake coffee are followed up by some nice roasty notes, and like the aroma, there is a touch of caramel in the finish.

Smooth, rich, and creamy, despite the appearance, this one isn't too heavy to handle. It's a pretty good dessert beer, though it would not be my first choice. It is incredibly sweet, and really, aside from the syntheticness of the coffee flavors, I really enjoyed this beer.

06/22/10- Had an 04/02/10 bomber of this one.
A: Black with some dark brown hues and a nice creamy chocolate head.
S: Espresso, vanilla, chocolate, oak, banana, slight caramel cream.
T: French oak, chocolate milk converting to roasted bitter espresso raisin with a lingering caramel banana finish, especially charred wood.
M: Syrupy and really creamy and frothy. Almost too sticky.
D: Only OK.

Color is a black opaque with a small almost non existent tan head. Good Belgian lacing. Aroma was that of heavy roast espresso coffee. Flavor of burnt heavy coffee, big espresso notes could have been balanced out better with a little bit of vanilla. Black malt with no chocolate of hop flavor evident because of the big burnt coffee taste. Full bodied and very warm to drink. Makes regular Yeti pale in comparison in flavor.

Bottle courtesy nickd717, glad you could make it! Pours darkest brown with a fluffy beige head. Aroma is coconut from the wood aging with roasted coffee and dark chocolate and a surprising amount of sprucey, piney hops peeking through. Flavor is toasty and chocolatey with a big roasted coffee influence. Woody and bitter. This is clearly the superior version of Yeti.

Deuce to tulip. The appearance is good; motor oil with not head and low activity. Smell is better than average; chocolate and espresso. Taste is good, but not as complex as I'd hoped for. Chocolate, espresso, and oak notes were present. Mouthfeel was a sipper; warm and lowly carbonated. Overall, a good beer; just not $10/22 oz. bottle good.

22oz into a goblet

A - Pours black, thick, solid, sticky looking. Strong head formation, mocha colored. Well retained with a frothy film and a little bit of lacing.

S - Deep dark flavors, heavy roast from barley and a much more coffee like astringency. A little bit of dark chocolate in the background. Could this be yesterday's coffee?

T - Starts off lightly roasted, a little burnt flavors. Mid-stream gets a hefty coffee /espresso flavor - like a double shot. Finishes with a strong bitterness and a sticky burnt oaky flavor. Strong aftertaste of chocolate and char.

M - Full bodied beer, moderate to light carbonation. Well hidden alcohol - but then nothing could make it past that coffee.

O/D - An interesting winter warmer for me. I am not that big of a coffee lover or perhaps I would connect with this one better. Not very filling, alcohol is potent.

A: sweet and slightly boozy. Green grapes plum molasses and caramel. Slight oak

A: Dark black, brown head. Falls quickly

T: Wave of chocolate with dark roast malts and some charred flavor. Strong oak and some bitter flavors. Coffee comes throught a little. Less complex than expected.

A: full body with nice carbonation. Flavors float around in the mouth. Deep roasted coffee comes through in the aftertaste.

O: Nice deep and rich stout. Oak comes though prominently with burnt malts. Coffee doesn't hit until the aftertaste. Less complex than expected and a little but too bitter.

Poured from a gold tin wrapped brown bomber into a pub glass.
A good 2.5 inch dark brown head forms, receeding very slowly. Leaving behind alot of good sticky thick brown lace and a quarter inch cap of retention.
The color like all yeti is black with no light penetration.

I gave the arom a lower grade due to the lack of coffee in the aroma itself. However, the aroma is quite good, its just lacking what this style is supposed to present.
It smeels like the barrel aged yeti, with really no coffee aroma at all.

Taste up front is a chocolatey liquore with dark roasted coffee, oak, chocolate bittering grains, lactose, and finishing bitter with plenty of peanuts and dark rish coffee. The coffee flavors really snuck up on me, after being absent in aroma.
This shares flavor similarities to Devil Over a Barrel with its creamy peanut buttery nutyness.
Also there is some Barrel Aged yeti like flavors, not the oak aged, I'm talking about the limited released barrel aged. It shares some of the richer chocolate liquore warm boozyness, as well as a truffle like bitter chocolate desert flavor.

Finishing dry and bitter with chocolate grains and plenty of roasty coffee flavors.

For a coffee beer its not exceptional by any means, but its not terrible either. Yeti has always been a terrific go to RIS for me. This is just another fine example of the brew.

A - Pours blackish with a dark brown head. Good lacing. No surprises, good or bad.

S - Vanilla, chocolate and a surprisingly muted coffee smell.

T - The first second of this two of this beer are fantastic. A great blend of vanilla, chocolate, coffee and bourbon punch the tongue. But then, before I can begin to contemplate the intense and complex flavors, they completely fade to strong coffee and very hoppy finish. A little out of balance. I do have to say that as the beer gets warmer the initial taste lingers longer.

M - Probably the weakest feature of this beer...Maybe its because I'm having this after a week of drinking of KBS, but it seems a little watery - only a little, but still...

D - The ABV coupled with the unbalanced bitter finish make one enough.

Had this the other night at RFD in D.C. and it was definitely an interesting brew. Everyone loved the bottle and was taking pictures with it threw the night in different spots in RFD. Poured into a pint glass and immediately you see the very dark brew pour out with a lovely brown chocolate head forming. Smell was of Espresso and Chocolate. Taste was over the top Espresso, with chocolate. Towards the end of the brew I was hit with some bitterness and fruit flavors. The brew it's self was very interesting and I was glad that I had it, but for $20 at the place was allot to pay for it. The Espresso flavor is very very dominate threw out the beer, so make you keep that in mind and that you are up for the blast. At the time I was honestly not able to finish it due to the overwhelming strong taste of Espresso, but i am sure more serious stout drinkers would have little problem with it.

Bottled march 2010.
Dark beer with little translucence. Initial mocha head dues quickly to retained small film. Smells of lots of cocoa, coffee, vanilla and oak (not as pronouced as anticipated). Taste is of coffee and yeti. Nice mouthfeel. Velvety. Finish is long and hard.

For quite a while I've been looking forward to sitting back and enjoying this beer from one of my favorite breweries.

A viscous, impenetrably black pour is topped with a large and resilient dark brown head that ends up leaving a nice sized, albeit slightly broken lace behind. The the Playbill review is promising.

Smoldering oak and vanilla to the nose with dark chocolate and espresso working in quickly. A bit of caramel and pine is noticeable as the curtain rises. From the orchestra pit big black coffee notes rise and strike the tongue along with some dark chocolate, vanilla and an undercurrent of sweet malts. Some burnt sugar and sour dark fruits enter stage right a few minutes into the play.

A bit syrupy with a medium to heavy mouth-feel, a creamy middle, some rough edges, and a barely discernible alcohol heat. The critics are still undecided on the merit of the play's final act.

Its hard to beat the original Yeti. And while I dig the added coffee notes and barrel aging, I'm not for sure it actually adds anything to this brew. That being said, this is a good beer, and I can guarantee you won't regret leisurely sipping an evening away with one of these as your source of entertainment.
