Poured from a bomber, bottled Dec. 23, 2013.

Pours pitch black with a very dark brown head, all bubbly and frothy. Concentrated espresso in the aroma. Taste has the harshness of oak aging but coffee flavors do a good job of keeping it in check. Lots of deep & dark bittersweet chocolate thrown in for good measure.

650ml bottle poured into an unlabeled snifter 6/1/2014.

A- Dark cola-coloured body, one finger mocha head with fine retention. No lacing. The beer has some nice legs, quite oily as it is swirled in the snifter.

S- Dark fruits, damp oak, black coffee grounds, dark chocolates.

F- Dark chocolate, coffee, oak, a little bit of booziness. Some dark fruit. I could be tricked into thinking this had some bourbon. A bit heavy on the oak.

M- Full bodied. Lower in carbonation. The oak is very strong here and may even be a bit overpowering along with the earthiness. Very dry oak lingers with a slight medicinal finish.

O- Good coffee RIS; the oak is a bit too strong in this one for me but there is a nice bit of complexity with the expected RIS flavour profile and coffee.
