This unique version of our monstrous Yeti Imperial Stout is aged for at least 12 months in whiskey barrels. The spirited aging process produces a hugely complex but mellowed Yeti, with its signature roasted flavors, hints of vanilla and oak, and a whiskeyed finish. Who says you can’t tame a beast?

FOOD PAIRINGS: Grilled porterhouse steak, Roaring 40s blue cheese, vanilla cheesecake, brownies.

750 ml bottle, purchased from the fantabulous Wine and Cheese place. After giving away a bottle I brought to Dark Lord Day since I was "all beer'd out", I've been dying to find an occasion to open one. Saturday morning seemed like a good choice, so Paulie and I split this along with some chocolate doughnuts!!

Into a snifter it goes. The beer is black, opaque, and devilish like the soul of Hades. The head is mocah colored and quickly sinks into the black abyss. Spotty lace is left on the snifter, but the head and lace deficiencies make this just good and no better.

Barrel aged Yeti has all the smells that make Yeti great, and then some extra pizzaz. The primary smells are bourbon, or, in this case, really good Colorado whisky and chocolate. The chocolate is more of a dark fudge than milk chocolate, and there's a sweet roasty malt character that I really like. Wood gives some vanilla and earthy characteristics and there's a touch of cherry as well. Overall, it's very expressive and just a touch boozy and brash. Almost perfect but falls a hair short.

However, the taste is sublime. Perfect example of how oak can add depth and vanillin to a stout. The barrel has made this just exceptional. It's dark and decadent, with chocolate-dipped cherries and slight whisky sting. Theres some dark cherry and vanilla, plus coffee roast and even coffee liquor. Just an amazing array of flavors and one of the best examples of -bal aging that has ever crossed my lips.

This beer is thick with creamy milkshake carbonation. Sweet and not sticky with a sweet bourbon finish. Just a hair short of perfection. This is the best Yeti version ever. I will be permanently ISO of any chance to drink this and I'm so happy I have one more bottle to do a Yeti horizontal with. So its not the most "drinkable" beer every because of the intense flavors but it's something every stout fan should seek out. A heavenly beer.

Opaque black color with some ruby highlights, a respectable creamy tan head and lots of creamy lacing.
The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, oak, whiskey, licorice and vanilla.
The taste is whiskey and oak up front, espresso and dark chocolate with some notes of figs, licorice, raisins and vanilla. There are some light bitter notes up front, smoothed over by some mildly sweet and then the finish dries out with a return to coffee, chocolate and whiskey.
The body is full, moderate carbonation, silky smooth and very drinkable.
Altogether, this is an outstanding imperial stout, ABV is fairly well disguised at first but will get more obvious if you let it warm up a bit, very nice warmth. This should definitely work as an after dinner drink, but also a great accompaniment for hearty food.

poured from a 16oz can into a CW snifter. pours a thick and inky black with almost a finger of mocha brown foam head. whiskey, oak, chocolate, espresso and vanilla on the nose. very roast-forward. roasted malts and strong coffee notes. taste mostly follows but it’s noticeably more chocolate-forward as well as piney and bitter on the finish. medium-full mouthfeel. smooth and creamy with just enough tingly carb in the finish. old school imperial stout with some nice barrel-aging notes. thoroughly enjoyed this can start to finish.

A very standard barrel aged stout-nothing fancy, nothing crazy, nothing out of the ordinary. And that’s what makes it work so well. The barrel presence is everything on this one. Good flavor, good body, good booze. Have to let it warm to see if it rounds out, but it’s so tasty, I may not get there.

Disappointing. The non barrel aged is better. This version has a sweetness, presumably from the whiskey aging that just tastes a bit off.

16 oz. Can
2023 Edition
CANNED ON: 9/5/23

Poured into a Trillium glass a very nice dark brown color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy two-finger tan head, which also leaves a pretty nice huge-size island, and some pretty nice thick/creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is very nice, malty, hoppy, with a very nice touch of chocolate/toffee, whiskey, some oak, vanilla, roasty, licorice. The taste is very nice, malty, hoppy, very nice touch of chocolate, toffee, whiskey, oak, vanilla, pretty nice roastyness, licorice. Full Body, ABV is hidden very nicely, this is a very tasty brew. Overall, a very nice drinkable/sipper.

Canned Oct. 2021. Deep, dark brown, almost black body. 1.5 inch medium brown head. Fades to an eventual solid ring. Average lacing. Smell is strong chocolate, with whiskey and a little vanilla. Taste is of roasted malts, bitter chocolate and whiskey. A little lingering alcohol burn on the tongue. The more I sipped the less complex it seemed... mostly bitter roasted notes and alcohol. Medium carbonation. I would say just short of a medium body. Not thin but not as heavy as many other stouts. $12.99, so I probably would not buy again at that price. Maybe a little age will mellow it out some.

Pitch black, two fingers of dark tan head that move quickly to a thin lace. From a can originating on 11/2/2020. Aroma is mainly chocolate and a smidge of whiskey. Both are apparent in the taste as well, with a definite roasted ash/oak flavor. The feel is a touch on the thin side, with a medium amount of carbonation. Smooths out as it warms. Overall, a good post turkey day meal dessert.
