Look: BA Yeti pours a dark dark brown with a slim khaki head that dissipates quickly. Carbonation appears to be bubbling up to the top from the edges. Swirling leads to some glass lacing.

Smell: An initial hit of barrel and bourbon encompasses the nose, followed by the base beer's anise and leather scent. Swirling leads to some chocolate, and possibly a slight roast.

Taste: bourbon, some barrel, chocolate, and then the anise, leather, tobacco comes out in the middle. I think the barrel really helps Yeti, as I don't like the anise much, and gives some depth. The taste finishes with a chocolate and bourbon flavor.

Feel: The body feels a bit thinner than preferred, maybe medium/medium plus. The carbonation helps the body feel a bit fuller. The finish is drying, and there's also a burn I get in the throat.

Overall: Considering my dislike of the base beer, BA Yeti is a hit for me. I like how the barrel takes the intense flavors of the base, and tones them down, while adding other flavor.

A - Poured Barrel Aged Yeti into snifter with a skim of mocha head.

S - The aroma is of toffee, vanilla, bitter sweet chocolates with roasted malts.

T - Nice stout flavors of roasted malts, dark chocolates with whiskey flavors of vanilla and char from the barrel. Mid palate the slight coffee flavor with more vanilla and heavy roast. Very complex !

M - Very thick and rich mouthfeel with medium to light carbonation.

O - Excellent brew from Great Divide! Cheers!

Not sure this is going under the right beer. My bottle has a totally different label than pictured, and has 10.4% ABV. It says, Great Divide Barrel Aged Series Yeti Imperial Stout, Stout Aged in Whiskey Barrels. Bottled on Nov 2, 2016. Served in a large WABL sampler.

Pours black with a very small, very dark brown head, and almost no carbonation. Smell is chocolate and whiskey. Not much more, but smells good at that.

Taste is bitter coffee and chocolate to start with, a moderate vanilla/oak flavor, more whiskey, a bit sour (in the whiskey region of flavors).

Mouthfeel is very dry. Overall, nice beer!

2016 release, opened Dec. 17, 2016.
Looks like a quality stout, although it doesn't have the typical barrel-aged look. Not much lacing on the glass. It's more like a gritty, sugary-looking residue that sinks back into the base. There are some wisps of tiny bubbles that linger on the surface.
The smell of the base Yeti comes through quite clearly. It has the same chocolatey and aggressively hopped, bitter, almost floral scent. I'm not picking up any of the typical notes that I get from bourbon-barrel-aged stout: no bourbon, no charred oak, no sweetness, no caramel. If I had to guess just based on smell, I probably would have guessed it was some kind of chocolate-vanilla variant of non-barrel-aged Yeti.
The flavor is fairly similar to the smell. The barrel aging seems to have added a hint of sweetness and overall has rounded off the sharp edges of the base Yeti. There is an extra bit of chocolate and vanilla compared to the base.
The beer feels fairly smooth and a little sticky, although the density is pretty similar to the base beer.
Overall, I think this beer is more enjoyable if you approach it as a nice variant of Yeti rather than as a standalone bourbon-barrel-aged stout. In particular, if you like the somewhat softer and sweeter Oatmeal Yeti, you'll probably like this one too. If you're looking for a big, bold, bourbon-barrel-aged stout like BCBS, you're probably going to be a little bit disappointed.

Update, 2017-01-19: I just opened a 2015 bottle BA Yeti, and wow! It is SO good with a year of age on it. It's chocolatey with lots of oak, bourbon without too much booziness, and the bitterness from the hops has faded into a nicer earthiness, so it has a better balance. I couldn't say if 2015 was just a better year for this beer or if a year of age would do the same thing for a 2016 bottle, but I will say that if I see another bottle of 2016 BA Yeti, I'm going to buy it and cellar it.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Black as midnight. An aggressive pour raises one finger of brown head. Decent retention. Tiny spots of lacing.

S: Brownie batter, chocolate sauce, double chocolate cake. Traces of jerky and smoke. Figs. Whiskey. Woody scents underneath the thick malt blanket.

T: Brownie batter, bitter dark chocolate, day old coffee. Jerky and smoke. Some minerality. Big dose of hip bitterness. Figs. Sweet whiskey brings a bit of a bite middle to end. Marshmallow impression from the wood.

M: Full, rich, and thick. Soft and velvety. Slightly coating and chewy. Not too weighty despite the size. Carbonation is soft and easy, helping to create an airy impression. Warming whiskey.

O: Yeti is a gargantuan imperial stout. Huge, brash, bitter. The barrel mellows it just a bit. Marshmallowy taste and a velvety mouthfeel in particular have the barrel to thank.
