Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout is another revered incarnation of our legendary imperial stout. We toned down the hops a bit to allow cocoa nibs to contribute some pleasing bitterness, while vanilla notes from the oak combine with the cocoa to create an aroma and flavor akin to a gourmet chocolate bar. A dash of cayenne keeps things lively, adding just a bit of heat to the finish. Another great Yeti? Hell yes.

Can't remember just how much I paid for this (picked it up in June in Ohio), but whatever. Heard some great things about Yeti, and this sounded too good to pass up.

Turns out, it's alright. Oak? Yes. With the chocolate and malts, it comes off a bit as ashy, which I don't mind. It's a subtle smoke and/or smoked meat flavor that I dig. I don't find that it tastes much like cocoa -- it's a more bitter chocolate that's a bit more "biting" than soft and luxurious. The feel, though, is big, almost like molasses in body.

In sum, not blown away, as if you couldn't tell. It tastes like dark chocolate and oak... it's not as rich I was hoping for, and I don't feel like it stands up to others in its class.

Aroma: chocolate, sweet, more like milk choc, than dark choc. Malt. Appearance: dark black, big tan head. Very pretty. Taste: chocolate, wood, ash, Feel: low carbonation, pasty finish. Very nice , the extra sweetness probably knocks this down a few pegs compared to the other yeti’s I’ve tried, but this is still very good."

Appearance - Pours midnight black with the faintest light penetrating the thinnest edge, revealing a deep cola brown. The head is cocoa powder in color with a slight reddish tinge and peaks at a fingers width before peeling back in fair time to reveal a thin layer of suds with a thicker island of bubbles in the center. Not much for lacing outside a few small orphaned spots found few and far between.

Smell - Cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malt and a touch of vanilla with faint booze.

Taste - Bitter punch of dark chocolate and roasted malt upfront. Lesser milk chocolate and vanilla sweetness come in by mid-taste, but ride beneath the dominant bitterness. Light peppery heat hits near the end. Finishes with cocao and roast bitterness, light booze, oaky wood and a bit more spicy heat, all of which linger in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low to moderate carbonation. Slick, velvety texture gives this brew a smooth, drinkable

Overall - If you don't like bitter chocolate, steer clear. This is an aggressively bitter and full-flavored cocao bomb. Maybe the best version of Yeti; certainly my favorite of those I've tried thus far, and I've tried most of the common Yeti offerings.

A - Pours black with a nice tan head that reduces to a ring fairly quickly.
S - Aroma is coffee and dark chocolate.
T - The flavor is definitely dark chocolate and roasty. The vanilla comes on in the middle. The finish has just a hint of chili. Tastes like a slice of dark chocolate cake minus the sugar.
M - Carbonation is lower than average, mouth feel a little thicker than average.
O - A very nice desert beer that avoids the sweetness typically associated with chocolate dominated beers.

Had on tap in a large snifter. Opaque black in color with an almost char/ash colored head about a finger or 1.5 fingers touch that holds fairly well and left a decent lacing throughout. Smell is intense (as with Yeti and all its variants). It smells instantly of chocolate, then coffee, and lastly the cinnamon, and chili. No oak in the nose, disappointingly, but still a wonderful smell for sure. Taste is huge with classic imperial stout flavors at first, burnt malt, coffee, char, maybe a bit smokey, and a tad sweet, with chocolate flavors prominent. Then the spices make themselves very well known, and they work better than I'd expect, and the oak flavor really comes through, tying it all together and adding a very nice finish to it all. The body is very full and it feels like smooth, spicy, sweet velvet on the palate. Overall, this is my least favorite of the Yeti variants, but still very, very stellar. Love this shit and definitely worth the not so tiny price tag. I would highly recommend this, anytime and can't wait to try the express variant, the only one I've yet to try.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a snifter glass.

(Appearance) Pours a smooth, creamy whipped dark chocolate head over a dense black body. Retention is very good and lacing is light and patchy. 4.75

(Smell) Bread malts, mild roasted grains, black patent, caramel grains, cocoa nibs, some dark fruit qualities. Pale hop presence, very subtle young oak tannins from aging impact the aroma. No discernible impact from the added cayenne peppers. Potency is moderate. 3.75

(Taste) Cocoa nibs, bread malts, caramel syrups, moderate roast on the back end. The cayenne comes through clearly in the finish, generating more tingle than scorch, illuminating the rich earthy qualities of this beer for a nice, lingering end note. Much of the subtleties of the oak aging do not come through notably enough to make the unique flavor of this beer stand out, although this is a very flavorful and enjoyable beer on its own. It is certainly no worse than any other Yeti entry. 4.25

(Mouthfeel) Texture is smooth, creamy, lightly chewy, medium dry. Carbonation is modest, generating a medium frothiness and a lightly crisp finish. Body is medium/heavy for the style, heavy overall. Balance is very slightly earthy and roasty bitter over sweet. Alcohol presence is mild and there are no off characters. 4

(Overall) An outstanding beer and stout by any measure. My only complaint was that it was not very well distinguished as an oak aged variant apart from standard Yeti, and much of the subtleties I have come to expect from oak aging beers is difficult to decipher in this beer's flavor. Aside from that, it has an incredibly rich and roasty body, a respectable level of sweetness, very clean and enjoyable. The addition of cayenne peppers left a risky impression but ultimately worked out in this beer's favor. I will certainly have to look into other variations of this outstanding beer. 4.25

Growler into pint glass. Pours an inky, oily, viscous black with a chocolate-milkshake head. Totally badass-looking. Initial impression is chocolate, smoke, vanilla, hops bitterness (or is that dark chocolate?) - all competing for your attention. Alcohol warming is evident (or is that cayenne?). (Nope, it's alcohol.) Very thick mouthfeel- kinda smooth, but not really: it seduces you with the chocolate sweet maltiness, then slams you with enuough bitterness to get your attention. Sweetish finish morphs into lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue - the inverse of the initial taste experience. How cool is that??
This is an interesting, if somewhat schizophrenic, Imperial Stout. The mild but persistent bitterness at beginning, middle, and end isn't really out of character for the style. I like it, but then I'm a hophead.

Might be my favorite Yeti I've had.
L - Pours black this a thick brown head
A/T - Chocolate and Roasted Malt give this a great balance between sweet and bitter. Not overwhelmed by caramel and vanilla like many aged beers
F - thick, with with a nice boozy/warm finish - maybe a little heat in there from the cayenne

Aroma of barrel aging and dark roasted grains with faint chocolate.

A: deep rich black body with no light escaping off white mocha head big chunky creamy looking head

S: hoppy metallic smell, bitter bakers chocolate, a little bit of peppers

T: very hoppy metallic a lot of bitter chocolates a little bit of heat very hoppy beer

M: medium to fuller body with lingering bitterness

O: I had this years ago and I thought it was fantastic now I think it is way too hoppy. I like the light spice from the cheyenne but otherwise this is way too hoppy to be a good stout.

Pours - jet black thick mocha colored head excellent lacing.

Smell - Big rich chocolate smell, roasted malt, little but of cocoa and vanilla.

Taste - amazing flavor, rich dark chocolate, vanilla the alcohol is well hidden. Nice oak flavor and big chocolate.

Feel - heavy feel coats the mouth great feel.

Overall - This is an amazing beer I love the flavor and balance.

Not my favorite of the Yetis. This one looked amazing and smelled pretty decent and boozy. The flavors are there but the chocolate seemed bitter, a touch too bitter for this one. Cayenne was ok, but not really needed..

L: A deep dark brown, with a finger or so of delicious, luscious-looking chocolate-milk brown head. Looks amazing. I don't give 5 on appearance often (only a few times ever)

S: Oak, chocolate, smoky. Smell is not super strong.

T: A lot of smoky, oaky-vanilla deep dark malt flavors, some hops, a bit of booziness as well. But I can only detect a little bit of the cocoa (it's almost imperceptible). There is a teensy-weensy amount of spice at the end of the sip, as the description states.

F: Medium-full to full bodied. Slightly above average carbonation level. Moderate bitterness.

O: Overall, this is a decent imperial stout, but nothing special.

L- very dark with a tan head to it. Heavy lacing.
S- very chocolatey smell to it. Malty as well.
T- taste chocolatey with little hints of oak afterwards. Boozy but is an imperial so kinda expected.
M- thick mildly carbonated feel.
Overall- not the best chocolate stout I've had but still pretty good. Price makes it probably not worth it

L: dark as an Oskar Blues ten fidy. Or close anyway, bark brown foam nice lacing.
S: chocolate and some slight bourbon.
T: tons of chocolate, some oak a touch of heat at the end
F: incredibly thick and glorious (so to speak)
O: not quite a tenfidy. But close. The not overpowering oak and slight kick at the end is nice in a stout

Never had yeti, but went in with high hopes based off its reputation.
The look was great, super dark, even the head was a dark brown.
Chocolate hits the nose first, a little oak, a little roasted malt.
the taste was stellar. Alot of chocolate, but still felt like beer hahaha about halfway into drinking it, I started noticing a spiciness on my tongue that didn't feel like alcohol. After reading the label, found out it was cayenne! A very nice touch.
The mouthfeel was thick, but smooth. Such a well hidden abv, it'll sneak up on you if you're not careful. The cayenne leaves the strangest (but still enjoyable) tingle on the tongue.
Overall, best stout I've had this year. Thoroughly enjoyed this one, would certainly recommend it.

L-Pours a black with a 3 finger frothy mocha head. Lacing is good and rings the glass.
S-Dark chocolate with woody overtones from the oak. No Cayenne here. Tame overall.
T- Cocoa nibs up front. Not really sure how I missed the Cayenne in the nose, because it's certainly present here. Cayenne lingers on the tongue after the cocoa and bitterness fade. Not overwhelming, but strong enough. Maybe too strong for my personal taste. Not getting much vanilla from the oak in the flavor. I feel like the cayenne and oak are clashing.
F-Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Low carbonation and the mouthfeel is on the full side of medium.
O- I think I'd like this alot more with the cayenne toned down or absent. Otherwise it's a above average imperial stout.

poured from bottle dated 3.21.16. black with a brown head. not much lacing, looks nice though.

not getting much on the nose. bit of malt and oak, some light chocolate and maybe a touch of vanilla.

taste is pretty nice.... good oak/wood presence with a great bitter chocolate and a touch of spicey booze on the finish, not hot at all though. feel is creamy and thick.

overall its very good but not as rich or complex as other examples of the style.

I just poured a 2014 cellar aged into a sniffer glass. Poured nearly black with dark brown head that was gone after about five minutes. Light lacing on the glass. Beer is magnificent! Well worth the wait. When I uncapped the bottle it foamed over the edge which gave me pause. If the beer was damaged by the aging process then it is unnoticed by me. Choclatey and smooth with a warm bitter finish. Definitely picked up on the heat at the finish as I pondered the taste and was a nicely surprised.

Amazingly dark black pour with over an inch of tan head on the top. Good chocolate aroma is top notch, oak is minimal.

Taste drops more waves of chocolate, chocolate malt and 2 row. Not overly sweet, well hopped. I imagine the dry mouthfeel and finish are byproducts of the oak, well done.

Deep dark black...almost impermissible to light. Thick brown head, dissipates quickly. Aroma is akin to chocolate milk mixed with baking chocolate. Pleasantly bitter and sweet, a little booze shines through at the end. Could have a bit more richness, but killer beer none the less.

Having recently tried the regular Yeti, and the Espresso Oak Aged Yeti, I was looking forward to cracking open this one. It didn't disappoint, but was also my least favorite. The appearance of the three is quite similar. I enjoyed this in a snifter. It's a black brew with a mocha head. The nose was very chocolate forward. This did not carry over to the flavor as strongly. The alcohol is pretty well hidden. It's full bodied. I found the finish a bit gritty. All in all a solid brew. Glad to have given it a try. Cheers!

Pours black with a tan head. Smells of chocolate and oak. Tastes chocolatey and smooth, with nuances of woody oak and maybe a touch of vanilla. Not too sweet but not bitter either. Medium body with light carbonation. Overall a good, balanced oak-aged stout.
