A: Nice dark red & gold color with a thin white (w/ little bit of brown) head that clings to the glass and completely covers the top. The head doesn't dissipate throughout the entire beer. Pours with a very nice head right out of the bottle
S: A nice smooth floral hop aroma hits it off well with a light amount of sweetness from the malt. There is a nice warm alcohol smell that you would expect with this beer, but not overpowering.
T: Malty up front, with a well-balanced vanilla flavor, followed by a little hot alcohol, and finishing off with a very pleasant hop aftertaste. The oak adds nicely to the sweetness.
M: Very robust & hearty in the mouth. It's very far from your typical double IPA. However, I enjoy it this way.
O: Probably the best Great Divide I've ever had. I'm a stout/porter guy, but this one outdoes itself.

Darker than ipa appearance, maybe the wood bled. Aroma was definitely woody, had some pine aromas too aside from whatever kind of wood it was.
Lots of crystal malt, heavy, still highly hopped. Its a big beer, the alcohol was not faint. Really just a big dipa, heavy malt, heavy bitterness and some wood chips. Not all that fancy, good, but who wanted to drop that kind of coin on a bomber dipa.

Reviewed from tasting notes taken 1-7-12:
L: Pours reddish amber with a slight chill haze that clears up as it warms. 1” cream colored foam collar grips the side of the glass.
S: Spicy, floral hops, light citrus, light malts.
T: Starts with rich malt and then rich citrus rind bitter flavors emerge seasoned with vanilla.
F: Medium full body, medium carbonation.
O: A big, boisterous DIPA.
