Snifter-from a bomber

A- Poured Great- two fingers of nice fluffy topping. stuck around for a while lacing in almost clumps

S- Nothing spectacular in the smell. muted vanilla. a little sweet in the back of my nose.

T- Unimpressed with first taste. Let it sit. I'm glad I waited. Good malty front end, finished a little sweet for my typical taste preference-but good.

M- Good carbonation, and I agree with the others, big and sweety sticky.

O- Very Good-Not where I usually choose to go with an DIPA, but I'm glad I did.

Smell - spicy hops, oak, dank, malty

Appearance - copper, light carbonation, descent tan head

Taste - dank hops, malt, a bit metallic, alcohol. The oak might have slipped by if it wasn't advertised on the bottle

Mouthfeel - pretty big bodied, bitterness is noticeable on the back of the tongue

Overall - great beer, solid IIPA, the oak is subtle, but a welcome addition.

Bottled March 21st 2012

A: Pours a dark copper/gold with a rocky off white head. Spotty camouflage lacing.

S: Sweet toffee malts, hints of vanilla, some pine and light grapefruit hops. The oak is very mild and barely lurks in the background.

T: Mmmmm... Lots of vanilla and oak characteristics in this one. Those flavors start right away and continue all the way through. It plays really nicely with the thick malt background and the pine/slightly citrus hops. The oak flavors really make this beer, without it, I wouldn't be as big of a fan.

M: Medium-thick body, moderate carbonation. Feels pretty smooth.

O: Very easy to drink. ABV is hidden nicely. Never had one of their anniversary wood aged double IPAs before. I like it and would get it again next year for sure.

On tap at Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks, CA.

Pours a hazy dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, and slight wood aromas. Taste is much the same with sour citrus flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer with a sour presence in the flavor that is unexpected for the style but fairly drinkable as is.

A: Nice amber to caramel color, mild haze but bottle was about 18 months old. Nice cream colored head.
-- Label is nicely done with more a " classic wine" bottle look, simple and eloquent. It is hard on initial look to find brewer.

S: Initial heavy malt smell with a hind a sweetness. Typical hoppy smell with fresh hops was not as heavily appreciated

T: Mellowed out malt and hops with a aftertaste of of earthy tones and oak. Finishes slightly sweet. Typical heavy hop bitterness is not appreciated. Vert nicely done

M: Silky and finishes smoothly

O: Nicely done beer. The bitterness of fresh hopped IPA is tempered by the wood aging.

bottle from 2012, drank 12/24/15 - Just so far past its prime, no hops to be found. It was like a sickly sweet barley wine with nothing to balance it out. I usually don't find wood to be a great addition to IPAs, and this was no exception. Tremendous amount of sediment.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass, bottle date 3/21/12. Pours a clear reddish orange, with a two inch sticky white head, with a thick coat of lacing. Smell is tangerine, pine, grapefruit, carmel, apricot, vanilla, and wood. Taste is much bigger than the nose would lead on. Huge oak/vanilla, grapefruit, carmel, tangerine, pine, and warming alcohol. Body is very big for the style, plenty of life, not overly dry, and easy drinking for a large beer fan. This is a magnificent oak aged Imperial IPA, probably the best I have had to date.
