Very Good
Notes: ORABELLE is brewed with barley, wheat, oats, and rye. This Belgian-Style Tripel is a golden beauty. Its two yeast strains, orange peel and dash of coriander impart surprising complexity and richness to this delicate ale. Don’t let Orabelle’s demure nature fool you; this is one flavorful pour. Watch out, she’s a charmer – one sip and you’ll be in love.

Bottled on date of 12/15/14. Pours a slightly hazy bright yellow with good lacing and head that fades somewhat fast. Good carbonation. Smells of orange peel, coriander, and wheat. Yeast aromas, almost white or wheat bread-like, is noticeable. Taste- Initial citrus and orange sweetness that quickly fades to coriander. Enough bitterness to balance the malts but I feel too much spices give this one too much perceived overall sweetness. Feels like it doesn't finish dry enough which lends it some extra body. Some warming alcohols but they're held nicely in check.

Overall, this is a fantastic beer to pair with food. However, as a standalone beer I much prefer less spices and a drier finish.

Served in a chalice at Fountainhead.

A tripel brewed with barley, wheat, oats, and rye, along with the other accoutrements of the style. Right on. It pours a hazy sunflower topped by over a finger of white foam. The nose comprises lemon zest, orange zest, mango, Belgian yeast, light black pepper, and light cracked wheat. The taste holds notes of lemon zest, Belgian yeast, banana, clove, light black pepper, and light coriander. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda grainy feel. Overall, a very nice tripel, one that showcases a bit more in the way of fruitiness than spiciness and somehow makes it work.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #74 (Mar 2013):

A lively Tripel, certainly wakes the palate up. The oats and rye add depth as expected and then some; the addition of wheat keeps this brew in line for a Tripel and maintains the level of crispness needed. Spicing nearly pushed it to an Imperial Wit though; not as subtle as the Belgians do it. Done splitting hairs—a real treat, even if it is not your “proper” Tripel.

STYLE: Tripel
ABV: 8.3%
AVAILABILITY: Spring seasonal

LOOK: Nearly clear, dull yellow, sudsy

SMELL: Lemon pith, minty, lime leaves, slightly biscuity, quince paste, wild herbs, peppercorn, alcohol

TASTE: Smooth, grainy, soft, rustic bread, nutty yeast, fresh grass, pears, papayas, very warming, juicy, moderate hopping, orange peel, spice, dry finish

A-pours a cloudy golden color with a foamy white head with nice retention and some lacing
S-alot of spiciness, wheat, yeasty
T-more spiciness, a nice creaminess, a bit of sweet maltiness, enough bitterness to provide balance, finishes dry
M-medium bodied and creamy, fairly tight carbonation
O-pretty interesting triple. definitely worth trying

Lovely golden color with plenty of foam in the Duvel tulip. Rich and tart with some deep fruity flavors like dried pineapple and green mango. Nice carbonation that rolls across the tongue as the Belgian yeasty flavors come along.

What's really interesting is the addition of wheat, oats, and rye, according to the brewery. It adds some tangy, bitterish grainy flavors that push the complexity as well. It also has the spicy flavors of a really amped-up Wit, though it's fortunately subtle with the orange and coriander flavors.

Another really good Belgian-style brew from Great Divide. They make so many good beers that don't involve bales of hops. From the 12 oz bottle brought to me from Denver. Label says "Bottled on Dec 12 2012."
