Poured from a can into a chalice.

Pours with a cloudy yellow body under white foam. Lighter than expected, but rather pedestrian.

The aroma is dancing with scents (which I like very much) but there is a lack of overall "jive" between the different things going on. Lemon curd, spiced bananas, and a basket of over-ripe fruit.

The flavor is like the nose in that there is a lot going on but it somehow doesn't sparkle. This style can be so mind-blowing when brewed by the top notch Belgians. I would love to see Great Divide release a canned version of the iconic style which competes with them (or even Unibroue) but such is not this case.

Conclusion: This is a wonderful beer, there is no doubt. It isn't what I would normally call a Tripel, but then again Belgian beer is all about doing all sorts of things and basically ignoring style guidelines (how do you think Belgian beer got so interesting in the first place?). And... there is nothing on the can about this actually being a Tripel, so I am not sure that New Belgium is even breaking a style in the first place. WHATEVER. This is a good beer, but it doesn't shine like the best strong pale Belgian style beers (be them tripels or not).

Aroma: Coriander dominates, with yeast and pepper in the background. Also wheat, orange, and green apple. Complex and surprising.
Appearance: Hazy straw. Sub-par head.
Taste: Slighly tart. Orange, bread, pepper, coriander. Tastes almost like New Belgium's Snapshot. Finishes with a rindy bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Moderate bodied. Easy drinking for the ABV.
Overall: A unique, orange-dominated tripel.

Aroma is spicy, with notes of clove and coriander accented by pear and green apple. Very estery.

Flavor is a little less exciting, with a lightly toasted malt backbone not providing the sweetness I'd expect. Fairly dry throughout, with a lightly bitter finish.
