The caves is, well, to sum it up, not what it seems. You will probably drive past it the first time you try to find it. Sandwiched between a cheap motel & who knows what, it sits at the back of a long parking lot, the building capped by a Kitschy car. Inside is the pitch black version of a mock-tudor pub, and with the neo-retro furniture and the video screen of a fire in the fireplace, it looks like just the place to pick up Goth chicks. My only complaint is that I always return smelling of cigarette smoke. Not unusual but not pleasant either. Oh but the beer selection. Unbelieveable selection for a dive on Division street in Arlington, perhaps best summed up in their motto, "Division. It's not just for bums & prostitutes any more". The bartenders are knowledgable and very helpful. They've got a good selection on draft and more bottled. The prices are phenomenal. It's a very friendly place and a great place to try in the mid-cities, which suffers from an admitted dearth of good beer bars since the Flying Saucer there closed. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
Used to come here a lot more, but recently I wanted to stop by and check out the Franconia beers they have on tap. Definitely a cool little bar, I enjoy the indie rock scene so I feel a little at home here. This is the place where you get to hear solid music that aren't the standard bar jams, on weekends they usually have a dj. Other than that prices are usually real cheap which is nice and their patio is the best in Arlington. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for something more than a standard bar in the Arlington area.
This is my old college bar. Spent many years here learning what I liked and sampling new and different things on an extremely tight budget. Things used to be cheaper too. One of the only places I knew of where you could go in 3+ times a week, leave only spending 10 bucks, drinking fine Belgians and thats all you needed. The vibe is my kind of place and what I seek out, dive bars with a good selection. The crowd is still varied, but has gotten way more popular and crowded in recent years. Sundays are the prime days in my opinion; take advantage of the German beer specials, eat some free bbq and hang out with your dogs at the bar. Sweetness I say.
