Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Amber in color, crystal clear with a thin white head that settles into a thin lacing. A bit too dark for a Pilsner. I'll have to take off points here.

Bready malt aroma with a bit of grassy, herbal hops. Nice aroma

Bready, cracker-like malt sweetness nicely balanced by a bit of herbal, grassy hop bittnerness near the end. Very subtle diacetyl, which is a trademark of the Czech pils style. Really well done.

Crisp, dry mouthfeel. Quite good.

Dock Street did a nice job of brewing a difficult style. Clean, crisp, refreshing with just enough malt in there to remind you that it's a Czech Pilsner. Good stuff.

Picked up a case last week. Haven't had this in year. Think it's back in production being contract brewed perhaps. Pours a clear dark gold with a steady stream of carbonation and just the right amount of head. Smells of noble hops upfront with a sweet cracker Pilsner malt base. Tastes sweet upfront of Pils malt then quickly fades to a nice dry feel with just enough bitterness and noble hop flavor. Clean and crisp, nicely done. Could drink a lot of these. Goes great with many food types and a nice thirst quencher.

Good example of the style. I would have this again. I appreciate the 5% abv. Too many craft brewers ignor the session appeal that is supposed to be a pils and jack up the abv to an unreasonable level. This is a flavorful, sessioable solid pils.

7/29/16. Grassy, barely skunky hops. Caramel & toffee malts. Somewhat overbitter finish. Not the pilsiest of pils, but refreshing nonetheless.

I have visited Dock Street Brewery & Restaurant in west Philadelphia on numerous occasions and I have taken away some of their large format bottles, but it was only recently when The Friendly Greek Bottle Shop here in Lancaster put some of their 12-fl. oz. bottles out as singles that they registered on my radar.

From the bottle: "Brewed in the style of the original pilsner beers of Bohemia. We use an enormous amount of Czech Saaz Hops and pilsner malts to produce its bright golden color and soft, nutty malt flavor. The balance is clean and crisp with a gentle hop nose and a long, dry finish.

I will say this about Pop!ping all of these caps recently - I have a large stash of them for a local county artist who uses them for all sorts of different things. Once again, my beloved Pilsner glass stood at the ready. I gave it a decent pour, but I have to be careful as the glass barely holds 12-fl. oz, & when the head begins to form, it will threaten to overflow the lip of the glass. This time, I got two fingers of dense, puffy, foamy head with good retention. I estimate the color to be precisely Amber (SRM = 7) since it was too dark for Gold. The Gelt Gang seems to agree with my assessment since there is no sign of them. Clarity was button bright. Nose was very grassy and somewhat biscuity and now my mouth was starting to water. Mouthfeel was medium, but very soft on the tongue. The taste was almost completely Saaz hops and while that may not be everyone's bag, it always does it for this hophead! I recently went back and re-read this site's Style descriptions for both Czech & German Pilseners, but one point that seems to be missing is the emphasis. In the former, it is the hops, in the latter, it is the malt(s), hence my preference for the former. Sure, the malts gave this one a toasty biscuitiness, but that was not what was being emphasized. Man, those Saaz hops were really sending me! The relatively low ABV suggested that I could drink a number of them on a hot, humid day, especially if they put this in CANs. Finish was dry, of course, with a lingering hops bite that left me licking my lips for more. More?!? You want more?!? On to the Rye!

DATE: October 22, 2016... OCCASION: Penn State-Ohio State Prime Time White Out... GLASSWARE: Ommegang 125th Anniversary pokal... clear, moderately effervescent golden body... a snow-white, half-finger filmy head that occupies the top consistently... sharp-as-cheddar hops elicit a pungent punch... fragrant, almost like perfume, floral, spicy and slightly toasted in its malts... first sip proves to be a winner, with a balanced mouth feel at the teeth, tongue and throat... medium-bodied, but quite drinkable... active and engaging... the flavor profile is spicy, bready, sweet and refreshing... a late graininess reminds of its Eastern European roots... this one eluded me for some time, having first sampled it over a decade ago... the payoff is a solid one, with a tasty alternative to a blander light lager....

Love this. Darker than a regular pilsner. Maltier as well. Reminiscent of Stroh's Bohemian. That really dates me. Simple, pleasant to drink. Easy to drink. Great with any food or after an afternoon of yard work. He'll, drink it while doing yard work.

bottle, into pilsner glass

clear yellow in color, white head that fades. not a big aroma - a bit of sweet grainy pale malt. taste is sweeter, could use a bit more hop balance. thin body.
