Dock Street- Royal Bohemian

A- Bright clear yellow with a big foamy head. Quick dissipation with a small amount of lacing.
S- Strong crisp grainy malt slight touch of sweet corn.
T- Big bold malt. Very grainy. Fresh cracked grains like oat, sunflower, spelt, and barley. A slight touch of lemon and orange poke through in the end. Slight grassy earthy hops mingle throughout but never imposing.
M- Strong bready grain malt makes a DRY beer! Sweet punchy flavors come out in the end.

Overall- What?! A Pilsner that I really enjoyed!? WOW, here's a beer that impressed someone who scoffs at Pilsners! Very flavorful and tasty. Awesome summer beer! If you like Pilsners buy this beer!

Despite the crooked label, this beer pours a straight-up golden hue topped with a frothy ivory settling thin cap.

Metallic scents of water fountain offering and copper.

First swigs: Some grain and pilsner-esque scents. No macro nose. Light fresh water and smooth buttery white bread.

Last swigs: One dimensional at best. Partof a mixed case that was a Summer Mix. This is a convert beer at best. Nothing off yet nothing stellar.

Beer is good. Happy beering.

On tap at the brew pub, seved in a tall pilsner glass, light golden color with a solid white head. The lacing is very good. The aroma is grassy, spicey, and sweet. A hoppy pilsner, saaz hopps are featured. NIce lingering bitter finish. A very good pilsner, nice balance, great session beer.

DATE: October 22, 2016... OCCASION: Penn State-Ohio State Prime Time White Out... GLASSWARE: Ommegang 125th Anniversary pokal... clear, moderately effervescent golden body... a snow-white, half-finger filmy head that occupies the top consistently... sharp-as-cheddar hops elicit a pungent punch... fragrant, almost like perfume, floral, spicy and slightly toasted in its malts... first sip proves to be a winner, with a balanced mouth feel at the teeth, tongue and throat... medium-bodied, but quite drinkable... active and engaging... the flavor profile is spicy, bready, sweet and refreshing... a late graininess reminds of its Eastern European roots... this one eluded me for some time, having first sampled it over a decade ago... the payoff is a solid one, with a tasty alternative to a blander light lager....

Pours a crisp looking golden colour with a thinnish white head that leaves a trace of residue on the glass.

The aroma is mildly malty and a touch grassy, with a touch of floral, chalky sweetness. Fairly bland and average for the most part.

Flavour is a lot more of the same, with sweetness and chalkiness leading the way and a hint of general grain flavour mixed in throughout. Mouthfeel is light bodied and nice and crisp overall.

I was surprised at this one. Whilst not stellar, it's still got much more flavour than anticipated and is much more on point than expected as well. It's a basic one, but a decent one overall.

Pours a nice golden yellow with a snowwhite head. Some faint lacing. Smells of lightly sweet malt with just a hint of noble hops.

Yeesh. The only flavors coming through here are sweet pale malt and some DMS. Nary the hint of noble hops here. OK, just a bit as it warms. Watery mouth. The sweetness and the thin mouth - almost nausea-inducing as it warms. I had a hard time getting through this one. Not a good pilsener, certainly shouldn't be calling itself Bohemian. Where's the hops?

No mention of Matt on the bottle, but I believe the original founders of Dock Street have recently reaquired the rights to the name. The beer is being contract brewed by Matt under the "Old Dock Street Brewery" name.

This is a recent reintroduction of a beer that Dock Street used to brew in the past. I heard that the original was much different than this new version.

As for the beer, it poured bright, golden and clear. Topping the beer off is a creamy white head of foam. The aroma is somewhat musty and pungent with a fruity graininess. The taste is light, crisp and tangy. Nice malt presence, but I'm looking for more accent towards the hops. Hard to tell where the bitterness is coming from. Leaves an oily lemon coating on the tongue, with the slight aftertaste of stale grains. More fruity and less crisp than I expect, but overall not a bad American example of a classic style.

Picked up a case last week. Haven't had this in year. Think it's back in production being contract brewed perhaps. Pours a clear dark gold with a steady stream of carbonation and just the right amount of head. Smells of noble hops upfront with a sweet cracker Pilsner malt base. Tastes sweet upfront of Pils malt then quickly fades to a nice dry feel with just enough bitterness and noble hop flavor. Clean and crisp, nicely done. Could drink a lot of these. Goes great with many food types and a nice thirst quencher.

What can you say about this beer, average. Light golden color with a fizzy white head. No retentention, no lacing. Pale malt smell with maybe the thinest trace of citrus if you really try to imagine that it's there. Taste is malty and that's about it. Fizzy mouthfeel. Just an average beer with nothing to make you want to come back.

Dock Street Bohemian Pilsner...on tap at the brewery.

Appearance-comes to me in a tall thin pilsner glass. Pale gold with a large foamy white head trapped with lace and bubbles. Attractive.

Smell-light hop aroma up front, alcohol and the sweet grain I associate with the style. Notable little traps of yeast and bits of malt bite.

Taste/Mouthfeel-medium mouthfeel, hops come in and provide some good flavor before being overtaken by the grain and alcohol mix associated with the flavors. Less sweet than most, a little watery on the way down, hops try to re-surface but are drowned away. Finishes with a last touch of grain.

Drinkability-lots of flavor here to like in a Pilsner and no real issues.

Overall-a well done pilsner, I like the hoppy variety of pils and this trends towards that style. Doesn't quite reach the heights of the giants like Prima or Sunshine but I like this a lot. A winner.

poured into a pub glass,a light golden color, very clear.
The 1 inch white head dissipated into a foam ring around the glass.
A few tiny strings of bubbles rise to the top of the glass.
The aroma was clean, bisquity, the hop aromas were faint,a slight grassy note.
The taste was crisp and clean,a mild biscuit taste,a little tart and grassy, not a lot of hop character.
The mouthfeel was thin, with a dry slightly tart aftertaste.
A very drinkable beer, especially on a hot summer day.
Not a bad beer. It was almost like a BMC.
A bit more hops would have been nice.

A nice above average offering. A crisp clean brew that pours out a crystal clear pale yellow with a fluffy white head that lingers for a little while and leaves some sticky thick lace as it withdraws. Aroma is clean with a hint of pale malt and some delicate floral hoppiness. Taste is crisp, mild and refreshing. This brew seems to be an attempted facsimile of a Czech pilsner. It is not far from that mark IMHO. It is light on the palate and very drinkable.

Pleasantly surprised. Picked up in Camden NJ, knowing nothing about it. When I found out it was a Matt (aka Saranac) product, I had high expectations for it. They were met. Nice color, foamy pale head (1/4 inch or so) and all malt in the nose. The taste is smooth malt with just a tiny hops presence. A really enjoyable, drinkable, and made me glad I had picked-up the 6'er. Only one problem... Can't buy it in my area. Rats.

I've had this beer before, but finally decided to review it.

This beer looks perfect! The bright, clear yellow beer, the fluffy white foam, the constant stream of fine carbon dioxide bubble, the everlasting lace left by each sip, it was exactly how a beer this style should be made to look like. And importantly, it was served in the proper glassware to accentuate the beauty of this beer.

The smell was clean, hop-forward with a little bit of malt sweetness. And it tasted that way too, but having an assertive Saaz hop bite that was spicy and a little grassy. The malt provided an underlying backbone to support the beer and provide a bit body.

I was looking for a thirst quenching beer after a hot day and I got it in this Pilsner
