Color is a nice medium brown, aroma is very malty, rye, taste is smooth, getting no hop flavor only rye and malt, no aftertaste. Overall a nice beer, just not my kind of IPA.

I have visited Dock Street Brewery & Restaurant in west Philadelphia on numerous occasions and I have taken away some of their large format bottles, but it was only recently when The Friendly Greek Bottle Shop here in Lancaster put some of their 12-fl. oz. bottles out as singles that they registered on my radar.

From the bottle: "An aggressively hopped American India Pale Ale brewed with columbus, simcoe and amarillo. The use of 20% rye gives this ale a unique dry and spicy character."

Another bottle, another Pop!, another day at Chez Woody, Rye-t? Wrong! My Achilles heel is rye, which is why I have numerous bottles of rye whisky here and very few of any other distilled spirit. I am VERY anxious to get this one going. A heavy-handed pour netted two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with good retention. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity and Deep Amber highlights. Nose smelled of black pepper and spearmint/peppermint and man, was my mouth watering! Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was spectacular with a full-frontal assault of black pepper and an unidentifiable mintiness on the tongue and in the mouth, filling my sinus cavity & making me yearn for the next wave to hot the beachhead. Finish was dry, cool, dry and minty. I felt like I had just brushed my teeth and used fluoride rinse since it was so minty and clean. Swoon!

Bottle of unknown age at Red Owl into a tulip. Pours an amber bronze with 1+ fingers of medium density khaki head that left nice leaving. Nose is piney, plenty of Simcoe coming through. Taste has plenty of pine, and some spiciness. Finish lingers a bit, as I've found with most rye beers. Mouthfeel is medium body and similar medium carbonation. Very nice rye IPA. I'd have again, but not more than one.

Pours a brownish copper with over a finger of head. The nose is both bready and hoppy. The flavor is predominantly nutty and malty with a good dose of rye spice. The finish shows off the hops that are not super abundant but sufficient for a nice hybrid ale such as this.

Hard to classify but this is part brown ale, part rye, part IPA - all good.

12 oz bottle. Deep dark amber with thick fluffy white head that lasts, lots of lace. Toasted bread and peppery rye in the nose. Taste is malty and peppery with a fair amount of piney bitterness, big flavors that work really well together. Medium mouthfeel. Overall bold flavorful rye IPA, good stuff.

I purchased this bottle at Grain & Verse, enjoyed chilled in a glass chilled.

The color is a dark ruby with light khaki head with fine bead and good retention with hazed look and lace that sticks. The smell is very hop forward with citrus and toasted grain with slight fruity ester and light grapefruit in the hop scent with very pleasant mix of malt and hops. The feel is very good with mild sweetness and moderate bitterness with med full body and light resinous texture with semi-dry finish and toasted malt texture with long lingering bitter finish.

The taste is very good with fruity and citrus flavor with spicy and bitter herbal hop flavor and mild grapefruit in the hops with toast from the rye malt and slight sweetness with gently bitter flavor increasing as it finishes on the dry side. This is a solid rye IPA with lots of hops in the taste low malt yet enough hop flavor to match and then some with lots of bitterness. The combo of rye with Amarillo Columbus and simcoe is very enjoyable
