Poured into a snifter. Raisin colored with a little baby head and not much lacing. Won't hold it against the beer, it being 10.5% abv and all.

Can definitely smell the Pinot Noir barrels they aged this in. Very pungent. The Pinot is dominant, but behind it lies raisins, malt, cherries, the barley.

Tastes like alcohol and barley. Not a very good job hiding the alcohol, but I don't think it worked out too bad in their favor. This is a Barleywine that did not want to be forgotten. Also taste a lot of farm flavors, corn, hay, a little grass. Behind all that, fruits like raisins and plums, some licorice. I think with all the powerful scents and flavors going on, Dock Street did a fairly amazing job of putting the whole thing together. That being said, I'd still love to age this bad boy and see how everything melds in a year or two.

Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy. A bit dry. Not a whole lot of carbonation.

With recent tastings of Bigfoot and Olde Gnarlywine under my belt, Dock Street's Barley Wine just isn't living up to the expectations. Solid enough, but nothing to ring home about.
