On-tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is relatively clear light yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that died down, leaving a large patch of bubbles in the center, a collar around the edge and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of peppery spices and yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell in that it has some flavors of peppery spices towards the finish. Slight hints of lemony citrus are also perceptible.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a light to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is nice and easy to drink—the flavors are not overpowering.

750mL bottle poured into a stemmed tulip

Pours an ultra clear golden color with a fluffy paper white cap that rose to fill the glass and fell slowly. Some nice spider web lacing all over the glass. Some visible carbonation.

The nose is subtle. Soft peach and pear with earthy, grassy notes over top of clean wheat. A touch of alcohol pokes through.

A light bready, biscuit malt up front with a bit of grainy sweetness before a rush of grass and earth. A mild bitterness that builds a little with time lingers with soft fruit flavors. Peach, pear, and orange peel primarily. A great balance of sweet grain and bitter hops.

Light bodied with firm carbonation. Uber clean all the way through.

This is a delicate beer. Clean. Soft and subtle with layers of complexity. A very nice collaboration.

Back story on the brew: "Dock Street and Brasserie Thiriez team up to develop a special, limited edition Saison. Brewers Scott Morrison and Daniel Thiriez brewed the beer at Dock Street at the end of June- marking it the first brewing collaboration between a US and French brewery in America. Daniel Thiriez, owner and brewer at Brasserie Thiriez in Esquelbec, France, is known in the industry for his Saison and Biere de Garde styles. Dock Street Brewer Scott Morrison, also known for his own Saison style, worked with Daniel to combine their signature approaches to develop La Biere des Amis – ‘the beer of friends.’ Sharing a similar brewing philosophy, Thiriez and Morrison created a beer that equally defines their personalities. “Daniel makes some of my favorite beer in the world, and I always thought it’d be awesome to do a collaboration. Dock Street was very open to the idea and Daniel was excited to brew here. It all just fell into place,” said Scott Morrison. La Biere des Amis is a full flavored beer that is made with German pilsner and wheat malts. It exhibits a clean, hop character and refined bitterness from Mt. Hood and Nugget hops. 2012 GABF silver medal"

750ml bottle picked up at Dock Street and poured into a matching Dock Street cervoise. The brew pours a perfectly clear color of straw yellow with a mountainous 3 fingers of frothy white. Subsequent pours a bit hazed. The cap slowly fades leaving patches of webby lacing on the glass. Rising bubbles of carbonation maintain a lace across the top in an uneven cratered surface. A swirl effortless revives a finger of slightly yellowish stained cap back to the surface.

The aroma is quite zesty with earthy and grassy to lemony hops. The yeasty saison presence is felt with it's own earthen elements and supporting fruity tinges of alcohol almost like pear. The hops bring out a lemon aspect that gets a bit grassy. A faint touch of sulfur appears across the back and comes out a bit more when swirled.

The taste carries with it a bit of that lemony citrus and oily bitterness of hops along with a hint of grass and earth. There is a pilsner flavor of sweet grain left behind that is quite bready to biscuit-like. The contrast of residual grainy flavoring contrasted by the bitterness of the hops is very well balanced. Some sips yield more focus on the bready grain flavors while others are seemingly all about the hop flavoring and bitterness. Yet, all the while the esters of the saison yeast and alcohol are ever-present with a hint of pear to lemon rind.

This is a light bodied brew with a lively and uplifting amount of carbonation. This is a pretty solid brew that I was overall quite pleased with. At times, I think the hops were a bit much and maybe outweighed the yeast character just a bit with it's bitterness. Also, the lemon at times seemed to come almost from coriander instead of the hops or yeast as it maintained a bit of an oily feel across the finish despite the light body and effervescent carbonation. This brew is certainly worth trying.
