Type: 11.16-oz. bottle
Glass: Lagunitas mason jar
From: World Market in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $1.99
Purchased: July 11, 2013
Consumed: July 13, 2013
Misc.: Came in a heavy, green, oddly-shaped bottle with the Buddha on it

Poured a golden pale clear color with 2-3 fingers of white head. Plenty of foamy lacing along the sides on the way down. Pretty good retention on the top all the way down.

Initially didn’t smell anything, but then pilsner notes came on. Got corn, cereal, hay, honey, grass, wheat and caramel.

Tasted rather bland overall. Got cereal, honey, grass, hay, wheat, corn, lemon, banana, cloves and sour fruit.

Light body. Thin texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Abrupt finish.

Not terrible for the style. It sure beats some other (Bud products, Miller Lite, etc.).

Lucky Buddha

Poured from 11.16 oz bottle into a mason jar. Served cold...

A) Straw yellow brew with a nice shimmer to it. A nice foamy head was produced on the pour. I was left with a dusting and a bit of lacing too.

S) Not very pleasant. I think both Miller High Life and MGD smell better, and I don't care much for either of those. It's just soggy grains, corn and rice. Kind of artificial ...

T) Not as shitty as the aroma, but mainly that is due to an overall lack of flavor. Warning... Due not let this warm up...

M) Light and bubbly... Goes down easy as can be. Not much to this one.

O) Aside from appearance, this was not highly enjoyable. I will say that if you enjoy collecting beer bottles, this is a nice addition to your collection. I cannot recommend the consumption of the contents within said bottle.

Bottle as a gift. From notes.

A - Poured with a one finger white head that went fast. Bright and golden with good carbonation, no lace, no retention.

S - Grassy, sweet grain. Not a bad hop presence. Oranges. Mild but OK.

T - Grassy, orange, sweet grain again. Mild again.

M - Smooth and clean with mild carbonation and a light body.

O/D - Not a bad lager. Smooth and not adjuncty. Decent enough.

(Served in a globe glass)

A- This beer pours a crystal clear yellow body with a snow white head that is supported by a sea of slow bubbles. The head sticks to the glass as it breaks up.

S- The green dry licorice note has some noble hop hints and a faint sulfur hint when it is pretty warm. The smell is nice but pretty clean.

T- The soft slightly sweet taste of corn has a dry raw grain hint to it and a flat flavor in the finish. The field corn flavor returns on the exhale.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a flat texture on the tongue and a tight scrubbing fizz in the finish.

O- This beer has a nice aroma of a good Kolsch but the flavor just doesn’t follow through. It has an odd “flat” flavor which is the only way I can really describe it. Almost like club soda without the carbonation.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

I remember buying a bottle of this a few years ago because of the unusual bottle design. I then found myself repeating such an endeavor again this week. This stuff pours a clear pale straw topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises wild rice, sweet biscuit, light corn, and sweet flowers. The taste brings in more of the same, a prevarication between sweetness and mild funkiness created throughout. The body is fairly light, with a light moderate carbonation and a watery feel. Overall, a slightly mediocre little lager, nothing close to special or even memorable beyond the bottle.

Gets an extra .5 points in appearance from me for the kickass bottle. In all other respects: smell, taste, mouthfeel - this beer is a near clone of Rolling Rock. There taste of adjunct is much less about corn, and more about rice. Otherwise? This is a good beer to knock back with friends with BBQ or pizza or Chinese takeout. Not one you have to think a great deal about in terms of complexities or subtleties.

Interesting Buddha shaped green bottle, dated 28/09/13
Pours a very pale straw yellow topped with a thin white head that actually leaves some lacing on the glass, but it's minimal. Aromas are nothing to be desired, grain, grass, metallic, not much else. Tastes are rather bland with grain, corn, cereal, grassy hop. Mouth-feel is thin and watery with moderate carbonation. Overall, it's at most, average for the style - no better and no worse than most of the macro-lagers out there already.

Lucky Beer... labeled Luckybuddha on the front of the green-glass 'Buddha' shaped bottle.
11.16 oz. bottle, 4.8% ABV
$1.99 @ Whole Foods, 10020 Regency Circle, Omaha, NE

As might be expected, the green glass has left this beer skunked. It's also somewhat hazy. It appears to have had some yeast sediment in it...? Or is that just sediment because it's old (doesn't taste particularly old)...

It pours a deep golden-orange body beneath a short head of short-lived bright white froth. Interestingly, it still leaves curtains of tiny spots and splashes with each sip.

The aroma is ... skunk... but with some sweetish and grainy malt behind it. The hops that are there don't quite make it through, but they do add to the generic "beer" aroma - topped only by the skunkiness which brings it up to the "imported beer" arena.

The flavor, as usual, follows the aroma: generic imported beer that's been skunked. There's a bit of a light sweet malt character to it, and a touch of floral character. Also some graininess and grassiness. It's very-firmly bitter, and well-balanced. In this case, the Chinese have done a very good job of replicating a low-priced, exported southern German 'Pilsner".

Easy to drink, and with that "european aroma and flavor", this is a great beer to share with your neighbors - especially given the odd-looking green Buddha bottle ;)

Bottle: Poured super light bright yellow lager with a small pure white foamy head with light retention. Aroma of adjunct and fusel alcohol is not very enticing. Taste is also dominated by adjunct with light fusel alcohol notes. Body is light with medium carbonation. Not just bland but actually quite bad.

A 330ml green glass bottle with a BB of May 2013. The bottle is shaped like a Buddha - lucky indeed. Picked up cheap from Morrisons not too long ago; the label states that this was brewed in Qiandaohu, China (though I assume it's the same beer).

Poured into a straight pint glass. A clear pale gold colour with medium carbonation. Forms a decent head of white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. Aroma of very light malt with faint notes of overcooked veg, stewed hops, a hint of cooked grainy sweetness and the merest whisper of noble hop overtones. Dull.

Tastes of ultra-light malt with a mild dry finish. Notes of weak stewed hops and overdone veg. Slightly sweet. A subtle hint of bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is light, dry and tingly, with a thin watery body. Mildly astringent, with an aftertaste of almost nothing.

Meh - pretty bland. Nothing technically wrong here, but it's dull as ditchwater. The only reason to buy it is the cool bottle - the downside is you have to drink the contents. Little aroma or flavour and no depth of character. I propose that this beer henceforth be called Sucky beer. Only get one if you want the bottle for something.

This is one of the most unique beer bottles I have come across so far. Bonus points just for the design.

Pours a clear light yellow with a foamy white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and a very mild skunk aroma. Taste is much the same with a corn flake flavor on the finish. There is a slight metallic flavor that I am getting after each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty poor beer with a cool bottle but a product inside that is not good.

330ml bottle 4,8% Abv.
Served chilled in an over sized wine glass.
Best Before: 18/05/2013

Appearance: The body is crystal clear and a very pale golden in colour. A rough pour yields a large white head that fizzes away quite quickly and leave a few patches of lace.

Smell: Hmmm, this doesn't really smell of anything - I guess nothing is better than the revolting noses of most macro lagers. Warming and some deep concentration yields some sweet adjuncts, pale grain and the faintest of toasted notes.

Taste: There is a little more flavour than there was smell and is not quite as bad as I expected. Sweet adjuncts, some pale grain and a metallic note are all that is noted.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with surprisingly pleasant carbonation for the style - medium-high level and fairly smooth .

Overall: Not a good beer by any stretch, but not as bad as I was expecting.

A random I scored in Winnipeg...

A - Pours a pale golden colour, thin layer of head with no retention and some spotty lacing.

S - Scent is quite mild, musty with grassy notes, sweet corn and hints of peppery spice.

T - Taste is dominated by sweet corn and bready wheat. Hints of caramel and toasted bread lingers on the palette.

M - Medium, smooth, though a tad dry for my liking.

O - This is average at best. If it weren't for the bottle I probably would never buy it. A perfect example of how marketing actually works!

maybe my favorite shushi beer. cool bottle obviously. pours hazy straw color with a one inch white head. looks like a wheat beer more than anything, and next to a tsing tao is looked positively unfiltered, but who knows. the smell is rather sweet from the malts, and a yeast that is a step up from generic provides some mild fruit tones. flavor is pretty similar to the nose, its is crisp and refreshing for sure, and stands up rather well to the hot wasabi. its a good palate cleanser between different fishes. mouthfeel is okay, bright and bubbly, but heavier than a lager should be i think. not a bad brew in the right context, btu certainly not something i would seek out outside of a sushi place.

A: Pours a pale yellow color with a decent head that fades to bits of lacing.

S: Aroma is musty with some malt sweetness and grain.

T: Pretty bland taste with mild sweetness and coarse grain. Mild bitterness and a fairly clean finish.

Light body, almost watery. Crisp with a coarse texture. Not a lot here.

Best served cold on a hot day. Basic lager. Best thing is the bottle it comes in.

Extremely smooth and easy-drinking, no aftertaste. Tried it a few times, once it was a bit skunky, but the other times it almost had a magical lightness to it. Falls flat in the flavour department, yes, but if you're in the mood for a refreshing, bubbly, light lager then you should give this one a try.

Poured into a pint glass, this beer has a crystal clear , golden blonde body with mild carbonation and is topped off with a thin white head that quickly thins out into a layer of fizz with almost no lacing. Some malts aromas are evident along with some mild citrus fruits smells like grapefruit and lemon. It’s very light on the tongue with a light mouth feel, but its very crisp and refreshing. Its got a sweet overtone to it but not much else. It goes down really smooth, maybe too smooth- but not bad overall.

Poured from the little Buddha bottle into a pint glass. Reviewed from notes.

A-No head, pale golden hue. Good carbonation. Clarity is high.

S- Skunky, light malts and grains. Grassy.

T- Grass, golden malts, wheat.

M- Super light with overcarbonation.

O- Smell sucks, taste is meh.

Very light, straw yellow colour with a thumb sized, bubbly white head and crystal clarity. The head lasts surprisingly well for a pale lager and holds for about a minute before gradually reducing in size but the colour is horrible.

Corn and other adjuncts in this one. It's basic and very much cheap pale lager like, with a very clean and almost metallic finish.

Lots of corn and cheap lager hops in the taste with a sharp, chemical like flavour following this. Again it is very basic but not overly offensive, just lacking complexity.

Very light and watery with a sharp and dry chemical finish and a very sticky feel to it. Not great on the palate at all I'm afraid to report.

Everything about it screamed that it was a cheap and basic pale lager. At a push it could maybe go well with some spicy food but in truth what lager doesn't?

The only thing Lucky about this beer is that it is not the only beer available .
Blandly ordinary , serving the function only to wet a dry and parched throat.
The bottle is pretty interesting.
A beer to guzzle and not put too much thought into , which , is clearly exactly what I have done

I got a couple of bottles of this for 60p (roughly one U.S. dollar)
mainly for the bottle but I got two so I could have one full and one empty, so okay I'll be brave and try this dodgy brew.

I'm not going to pull any punches, piss coloured with white head that goes faster then galloping knob rot round a brothel.

The Aroma is deceptively nice, hoppy and floral with malt notes.

Flat as a pancake depth of flavour you get the grain and expect the hops and nothing but to be honest I have had far worse cheap lager beers.

Thinner than a super model's IQ mouthfeel but not overly fizzy.

Drinkable, that is the best I can say.

A: Slightly hazy, sunshine yellow with a steady one inch head; some lacing; pretty bubbly

S: Grassy and grainy; lots of straw-like aromas; a bit musty

T: Grainy with some musty earthiness; finished okay--a bit watery and simple but also fairly pleasant

F: Somewhat thin and watery but not over-carbonated either

O: Not a bad BMC-like lager; fairly baland and unassuming but really not all that bad

Lucky Beer - my wife saw this bottle and said I had to try it, so I figured I havent got much to lose.

Appearance - very pale and not very impressive. Similar look to coors light

Smell - Not much fragrance, but better than your big name beer. I picked up hay, honey, and some light flowers

Taste - This made the beer for me. Such a great light flavor, prefect for the summer day when a porter or stout may be too much. Taste matches the smell

Moutfeel - a decent mouthfeel, along with a average amount of carbonation. Not overbearing but no so light its natty light.

Overall - a good beer when your tired of the specialities for a day. Instead of Bud Light, buy a Lucky Beer, and its cool bottle!

Lucky Buddha has a medium, white head and a just slightly hazy straw appearance, with little brown flecks floating about and a decent amount of lacing. The aroma (green bottle) was happily not skunked, but one gets sweetness, white bread, and a kiss of the hops. Taste is lightly roasted barley, bread, some paper, sweetness, bread crumb, a touch of pleasant bitterness, and there are other obscure flavors which I can’t pin down (honey?). Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Lucky Buddha Beer finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, dry, and easy drinking. This is a delightful lager.

Large white head, smooth, pale yellow body.

Reeks of un-cut skunky urine. Disgusting.

Light fruit, apple character in the taste. Bland, some macro corn aftertaste. Not nearly as bad as the smell.

Lightish feel, not quite watery.

Novelty bottle, that's it.
