In my opinion, Sackville's bottle shop is the best bottlo that is withing spitting distance of Sydney's CBD. They offer a wide range of craft beers - all refrigerated of course - at exceptional prices.

During my last visit they had plenty of Redoak, Murray's and Matilda Bay, including Murray's limited release Anniversary Ale. They had a good range of Belgian and German beer as well.

The folks behind the counter are obvious beer fans and knew enough about what they were talking about. They kept the Murray's Anniversary Ale off the shelves for people who came looking for it.

The prices are great too. They offered the best prices I've seen near the city for Little Creatures Pale and Knappstein Reserve Lager. This has become a destination spot for beer runs.

A separate counter from the Sackville Hotel, but attached to it. This 2 lane, drive-through bottleshop is pretty handy when looking for somewhere in the inner-west for decent beer. One lane is for express customers picking up what they want, the other for those looking to browse.

Nice clean layout, the wine section is the flashiest bit, fronting Darling Street, while beer is kept almost entirely in fridges off to the side, the exception being promotional stock which sits on top of wine barrels. 6-packs are in one set of fridges, while singles reside at the western end. Relaxed enough shop and easy enough to snoop around looking for stuff in.

Service is average, friendly, polite, but expect nothing more. Asked about whether they stocked the Little Creatures Single Batch stuff only to be met with blank looks. No real beer interest from any of the staff on any occasion i've visited over the past decade, still they are warming and that's the extent of things.

Selection consists of a good deal of Australian macro, mainstream craft and pseudo-craft beer. The singles fridge has the usual belgian suspects (trappists etc), along with an above average range of English Ales (Samuel Smiths and others for instance). No sign of any NZ, Scandinavian or US imports of note. It used to be a great place to stock up on Murrays Anniversary Ale, but i haven't seen that there since about 2007 or 2008.

Prices are a little on the higher side, $22 for a Little Creatures Pale Ale 6 pack. Most of the Samuel Smiths range is $8.50, while the other English ales sit at around $9-$10 and Chimay Blue goes for around $9.

Decent enough shop, has the occasional random world tick. Solid selection of German and Belgian stuff. Decent enough when it comes to Australian craft, but not cutting edge. Where it stands out is with the range of English Ales, just be sure to check the best before date on them as some sit around a while.
