Moa Methode is bottle fermented and conditioned to give a natural, more consistent carbonation and flavour. Due to the natural brewing process of Methode Moa, a light, beneficial sediment will remain. This sediment protects the beer from premature aging and leaves full, slightly spicy characters on the palate.

A: Light gold in color. Forms a huge white foamy head that slowly reduces to a thick surface coating. Leaves plenty of lace on the way down.

S: Biscuit malt and grassy hops. Smell is quite similar to Heineken.

T: Starts off with a little dry malt. Chalky (the flavor, not the mouthfeel). Lots of grassy hops with a vegetal quality to it. Some green pepper. A little lemon. Finishes with a moderate bitterness.

M: On the lighter side with heavier carbonation. Dry and somewhat chalky.

O: This beer tastes about how I figured it would. A decent representation of a Pilsener, but not a great one. Ends up being a decent, though not overly exciting beer.

Hazy yellow color. Foamy white head, with a lot of retention. Well pronounced botanicals and fruity esters in the aroma. Flavor matches, along with a tart and dry quality imparted by the Champagne yeast, all balanced on a wheaty, malty backbone. Dry, alcoholic finish.

I picked this beer up while in NZ and decided to bring it home with me since I had not found anything else that I really wanted to pack into my luggage. This, as well as a beer from Hobbiton, made it home nice and safe.

This beer pours a glowing straw color with a massive amount of carbonation that is visible despite the cloudy nature of the liquid. The head is a bright white and a sparse froth that dissipates very quickly to a light ghostly foam. 3.25./5 The aroma is of moderate strength and leans more toward sweet than sharp and dry. The malt in the aroma is quite heavy on grain and bread with a touch of caramel (but not much). The hops are very spicy and citrusy with a nice touch of lemon zest and white pepper. There is a bit of yeasty esters that come through as well presenting as banana and clove. 4/5 The flavor is nice and strong with a very nice balance to it. It leans neither sweet nor bitter, instead drawing a line between the two and hitting a middle mark dead on. The malt comes out up front with raw grain and white bread, with just a touch of caramel to add to the sweetness. As with the aroma, the hops focus mainly on spicy and citrus notes with lemon zest and white pepper leading the way, finishing with a bit of grass. The bitterness is moderate here and actually has a stronger lingering flavor that it does when the beer is in the mouth. I don't get the banana and clove as much in the flavor as I did in the aroma, although they are still there as undertones. 3.75/5 This is a light bodied beer with a lively carbonation that melts away to a drying and slightly astringent sensation with a lingering dryness after swallowing. The finish is medium in length and fairly strong, and heavily leaning towards dry and bitter. 4/5 This is a very good Pilsener that sticks to the German style nicely and is a very easy drinking beer. I did quite like this beer, although I do wish the head would have stuck around a bit more. 3.75/5

I received a bottle of this as a gift, not the normal beer I consume, but I love to try new things. The beer was a bit cloudy, rather bubbly, and a pale golden color. A nice, frothy head that left some lacing. The aroma is earthy, herbal, and yeast. The flavor is nice, pungent earth with a hint of lemon, and some bread-like sweetness from the malt. It is medium bodied, and has a slightly thick mouthfeel with some bitterness from the hops. It was still refreshing, and not bad for my first beer from New Zealand.

375ml bottle poured into a pils glass

L - shade orange more than straw, pours a good sized (4cm thick) frothy white head, clear

S - bready malts and a strong earthy/grassy aroma, hint of orange and kiwi fruit.

T - bread malts, sweet yeasts to begin with, some spicy peppery bitterness coming in at the middle (along with hint of lemon and orange). The bitterness intensifies towards the finish, but is at no point overpowering.

F - soapy texture, medium bodied, middle of the road carbonation.

O - decent, refreshing pils. Slightly more bitter than the average pils, but with that standard grassy odours.

Bottle: an embossed light brown / green 330mL bottle with a somewhat stylish macro label.

Appearance: a hazy golden amber with moderate visible carbonation. A fluffy off-white head drops to a thin cap, with sporadic lacing.

Aroma: the predominant aroma here is standard lager yeasts, floral, earth and herbal notes. A bit sharp.

Taste: all of the characteristics transfer from the nose, but much more balanced, without the sharpness.

Aftertaste: the flavours linger for a short time, but are met with that awkward sharpness again.

Mouth feel: fairly light in feel with a moderate but spritely carbonation. Pretty good for a pilsner.

Overall: one of the better Moa beers I have had so far, which is to say that it is fair. The only one that is close thus far to being worth the AU$65 a case price tag. Still far from being my favourite pilsner though.

Picked this up randomly from the import section of BevMo, never heard anything about it before tasting. I was pleasantly surprised. Pours a hazy slightly red wheat color that reminds me a lot of the way grapefruit juice looks. Nose is very pleasant, some hops, sweet malt, mild citrus. Taste is along the same vein, but this beer is surprisingly flavorful. It is among one of the most flavorful and delicious pilsners I've had, up with some Imperial Pilsners like My Antonia. Hops, honey, lavender, lemon, grapefruit, bread. Feel is medium bodied and cream smooth, but still refreshing and light. Overall, fantastic, one of my new favorite pilsners.

375 ml bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy bright golden color with a 1 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense foamy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the the head. Awesome appearance. Aromas of lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange zest, cracker, bread, herbal, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of bright citrus/earthy hops and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange zest, cracker, bread, herbal, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange zest, cracker, bread, light pine, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and robustness of citrus/earthy hops and pale malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean flavors as well, with pretty much zero yeast ester presence. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice German pilsener style. All around good balance and robustness of citrus/earthy hops and pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
