Opening the bottle was enough to start it foaming over the neck, so be careful when opening!

A: Well there is more than enough carbonation. The beer is a darker shade of amber and hazy. A thin but good head will remain on the beer after it largely subsides. There is good lacing.

S: There is a wealth of scent in this beer. I pick up earthy resinous, dull pine-like hop character. There is a bold malty smell to this. I get hints of caramel, and some Belgian flavors (odd but..it's there).

T: This has an interesting flavor. At first, I get more of a roasted flavor, with it finishing on light hop bitterness. I get a very light grapefruit taste. Burping sets off a lot of good hop characters. Overall flavor trends more to the malt than the hops.

M: The moutfeel is pretty good. It is fairly smooth and sits on a solid medium body. There is light bitterness with nothing unpleasant.

O: Overall it's a pretty good beer. If I'm ever in New Zealand or Australia, I'll have to look for it. As for an import, it held up very nicely and was packaged in light-proof containers. It is a nice all-around IPA.

This ale is definitely funky. It's been sitting in the bottle for since March 15, 2015 (3.5 years). That apparently is too much. But I have a feeling this wasn't all that extraordinary anyway. It really is a drain pour.

Not recommended.

S: Hops dominate the aroma filling the air with tropical fruit, fruit rind, citrus, spice, floral and a hint of banana and bubble gum.

L: t pours brilliant copper producing a persistent 2" cream colored foam cap that produces a lattice work of lace on the glass.

T: It has a very creamy palate packed with tropical fruit flavors - mango, papaya, and orange. There is a light sweetness that gives way to a balancing bitterness on the finish. The beer focuses more on the rich hop flavors than on the bitterness. The bitterness is soft and not harsh.

F: The body is medium and the carbonation is average.

Thanks sparky. Much appreciated. A wildly excessive head. Funky Aroma I assume is a mix of those wild NZ hops. Sweet and a bit fruity but 8n a iniquity way. Not quite skunked but it does have a green bottle (corked too).lighter colored with a yellow gold hue.
Certainly get a more traditional English ale taste with a balanced hop malt taste with more earthy and herbal character. Smooth and despite the huge head a flater feel.
Not so sure about the aroma and look but I liked the taste.

Format: a very solid, dark green embossed bottle with a stylish, dark Moa label. A good package.

Appearance: poured into a tulip glass. A deep amber-copper colour with light carbonation. A good two-fingers of white head that slowly drops to a half-finger. Decent retention also.

Aroma: sweet bread malts with some fresh hop aromas. Smells decent.

Taste: some sweet malts up front with some hops also. A bit sweet. I thought this was supposed to be hop-forward?

Aftertaste: some bitterness from the hops here with those sweet malts also.

Mouth feel: medium in body with a moderate carbonation that brings the flavours well and makes the feel quite smooth. A lovely feel.

Overall: yet another 'not bad' beer from Moa for a truly outrageous price. I'm getting a bit sick of it to be honest. Not a bad IPA, but certainly not the best I have ever had by a large margin. A 12 pack of 375mL is AU$72, making an equivalent 24 x 330mL case around AU$125. Holy dooley! There are better IPAs for half that price. I've given Moa a few chances by now, but I think it's time to stop buying their very, very overpriced, slightly-better-than-average beers.

Bottle shared into two snifters. HUGE head. no date.
Sweet hop smell, very English in nature.
Has a nice sweet mouth feel that then dries out leaving a resinous pine feel.
Very well balanced. Good sweetness with hop tones that grow on you and come out amazingly. Very nice and refreshing and each sip the flavor comes out more and more. Would buy again. Probably tomorrow when I drive to SC to my spot down there.

Drank from my Duvel tulip

A- Pours a coppery, amber colour with one finger frothy white head that retains fairly well

S- Slightly spicy, biscuit, some floral notes with a hint of lemon, grapefruit but rather metallic. Nothing pronounced and rather disappointing

T - Rather bready, biscuity, slight caramel malts with a bitter , spicy , tangy finish with some tangerine, grapefruit and bitter lemon.

M - Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation

O - Nothing fantastic but a fairly well balanced refreshing beer, a little too tangy and bitter at the finish for me but ok.

With a pep of tangy citrus and a firm armature of biscuit malt, the hoppy taste that make British ale popular gets an indigenous face-lift from the award winning brewers from MOA.

Five Hop is a darker rusty-amber hue that segways seamlessly to its toasted sweetness and piney aroma. Its soft biscuit malt starchiness gives the initial taste a creamy dryness to elevate a citrusy grapefruit, lemon and orange tone.

Across the middle, the ale simply blooms as its confident carbonation gives life to its brilliant white grapefruit, juniper, orange, lemon and grape character from those distinctive New Zealand hops. As the malts recede into a dry and toasty palate, its steely caramel taste is effortless on the palate but keeps the hops firmly supported.

Toasty-dry in finish, the hops continue to pull forth with elements of grass, white wine, peppery oak and its own wood-derived caramel and faint vanillans. With a tea-like presence in aftertaste, the taste concludes with hints of verbena and grain tannin.

MOA's Five Hop ale is a welcome addition to the American dinner table as it perfectly complements an array of domestic dishes from pizzas to burgers and everywhere between. One thing's for sure, moa beer is better than less beer!
