For cask beer in Barcelona La Cerveteca is the place to go. There are three hand pumps and they quite often have a cask right up on the bar. With their regular taps included you'll find 9, 10, or even 11 beers available in addition to their bottled selection. It's also a big futbol bar which is interesting, and perhaps that's the connection to the cask ales. Moderately surprisingly, English ales are not their main focus. They're there of course, but they're also into Belgian, German, American, and Danish beers. They don't put a lot of emphasis on local beers, generally leaving that to other places, but they'll occasionally have some - I wouldn't put anything past them, but those seem to be what they gravitate to.

It's in an old building in the Gothic section, right off of the beach, and it's got a lot of character, yet at the same time it's kind of bare-bones. The walls are fairly empty of decor, painted in a kind of yellowed olive green color, and the tables and stools are basic except for the old barrels that they've converted over to "stand arounds". There's a little room off to the side by the old kitchen and bathroom which is a little nicer, but seeing as how the main room is on a corner that looks out onto the street it's probably more entertaining to be up there and just watch the world go by.

They offer tapas but I don't think they do it all of the time, and I've never tried any to comment on. The draft prices seem fair, served in the usual 25 and 50 cl sizes, but the bottles in the two different fridges they have seem a little marked up.

It's not my favorite stop because of the decor, and the fact that they don't open until 6 during the week, but I do like the beer. It's definitely one of the better places to find European imports on tap in Barcelona.

Very friendly place in the barri Gothic right behind (next to) the post office. No frills place with very knowledgeable barmen. Very good curated rotating selection. Limited opening hours, but areal passion for beer. Have seen the proprietors out at a number of other beer haunts, so they definitely walk the walk. Chill spot for interestin brews.

La Cerveteca was easy enough to find, just a short distance from a main street... but it looks nothing like the picture someone submitted for this place.

Staff was very friendly but I don't think they spoke hardly any English... Take an interpreter like I did (my wife). The staff offered several samples of what was on tap as we tried to figure out what we wanted.

The taplist only had beer names and not the brewery, which made it a little difficult to figure out where (what country) the beers were from. Lots of brews from Belgium, noticed a lot of Nøgne Ø, Mikkeller, a few from Italy and Switzerland, as well as several Rogue beers. Was a little disappointed that they only had one beer from Spain, and it was not very good.

Was fairly crowded when we were there and seems like a popular place.

I'm glad I was able to find this place when we went to Barcelona last week. The overall beer selection is Catalonia is, simply, awful.

La Cerveteca had 4 taps and 3 engines, with the engines pouring a light, a medium, and a dark. The chalkboard with the beer list was cryptic, at best, and the bartender spoke no English (and I barely adequate Spanish), but once I figured out the light-to-dark arrangement of the tap handles, we got along great. No idea what brands were on tap, but 3 were local Catalonian brews, two light and one medium body, tasted like two decent pilsners and a not-to-sweet brown ale.

They also have a decent selection of bottled beers (even a non-alcoholic Hefe for my pregnant wife, which was a welcome change from Fanta Limon). Lots of Rogue and Brew Dog products, a couple of English micros, and a selection of local brews, some of which were quite expensive, on the order of EUR 5-6 for a 12 ounce bottle.

If you're in Barcelona and you want a good beer (a safe assumption if you're reading this), go to La Cerveteca. It's a cool area (Belgious is awesome for crazy gelato nearby, too), and the beer selection may be the best in Barca.

It's a small bar in the historic centre of Barcelona that serves local and international beers.

The service is pretty good. The bar man that helped me out didn't speak much English but was very friendly and let me try a Catalan craft brew that was on tap. The same guy also asked me the next day if a beer I had purchased the previous night was good or not.

The selection is not huge but they are generally good quality - some I can remember are Brewdog, Flying Dog, Cantillon, De Molen, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, Great Divide, and Meantime as well as a few local brews. There are a handful of beers on tap as well as one on a hand-pull.

It's a bit expensive for Europe, but it's hard to look past it when places to find good beer are few and far between in the city.

Unfortunately, it closes early (before 10:30, I think).

This is really the place to go in the old city for quality craft beer. Although the number of beers on tap is very limited, the quality and uniqueness is very high. Over the several times I visited, they had a good variety of Belgian and German selections, which rotated almost daily. They apparently have some tapas, but I didn't notice anyone eating during my visits. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers they currently offer, and the small selection in the store.

As for the store, they have numerous catalan craft beers, and a small but well picked selection of American, Belgian, German and Danish bottles. I thought that their selection of Brassiere Cantillon was especially excellent, with some bottles being four years old, rewarding some digging because they were all the same price. Overall, a great beer bar; certainly some of what they can be found cheaper elsewhere, but the selection and location are hard to beat.

Yes its a bit expensive, but they do care about beer, the selection its very good (for Barcelona standards anyway). They place its really nice (no loud music), a couple of "tapas" if you want to pair your beer with food. They have tastings every month in the premises. So i would recomended if you have money in your pocket or if you want to make a quick stop in between your bar hop experience. And BTW the picture isn't from the place... I'll try to upload the real one in a couple of days

If you want to buy Catalan craft beers, this is the right place. They have a fairly good selection of the best beers from almost all Catalan breweries (15-20 different beers) which will be impossible to find anywhere except in some selected bars or breweries themselves. In addition, there are some of the best European brews, e.g. Nogne, some of the best German brews, good Belgians, some US beers etc. In total, I would say there are about 40-55 different beers, maybe slightly more.

There is also a possibility to try the beers on the premises.

However, there are some negative points as well - the shop is one of the most expensive beer shops I have been, Catalan brews retail for 2.70 - 3.80 EUR (in breweries they can be obtained for 2.00), foreign beers cost much more. Prices seemed unreasonably high for me and I would purchase imported beers somewhere else - e.g. El Corte Ingles offers much more friendly prices.
