Muddy brown color, not a pretty beer. Some weird stale aroma at first, not very appealing. After it sits a bit it gets better though. Taste is quite bitter for a barleywine and doesn’t really integrate well with the malt sweetness. You can definitely taste the lack of skill in this beer.

I like the fact that people at Amiata write the recipe (hops and temperatures, that is) on the label. So now i know that Cinabro has TONS of hops (Chinook, Magnum, Cascade, Fuggle, Amarillo). I think it's a 2012 vintage, not sure. 11% alc.
Nice (a bit weird maybe) pour: dark brown, seems flat at first, but some effervescence builds up and raises a tiny lace, very sticky. Some floaters.
Dark fruit jam, caramel, chocolate, faint coffee, orange jam, licorice, candi sugar, sweet mulled red wine, really sweet taste.
Whew, thankfully taste isn't that sweet. Fig jam, caramel coated raisins, juicy plums, but also a nice citrusy zing, crisp and balancing the sweetness from the start. Red wine characteristic, sweet red grapes. An aromatic sugary note, like rock candi sugar, and dark spices and herbs, like cinnamon, prickly pepper, hint of maple and clove, ribgrass syrup, with some roasted malts right on its tracks. A touch of oaky vanilla and dusty wood, but barrel notes are faint. Cocoa powder and mild coffee beans in the finish, mild bitterness (faint leafy hops), joining the lingering dark fruit and the spices in the aftertaste. No sweetness lingering, which is nice.
Almost no carbonation at all, smooth, weirdly watery. Alcohol is extremely well hidden, surprisingly easy to drink.
I've learned that Amiata are a bit "unprofessional" and their batches are sometimes very different one from another. This batch (401) really didn't have any cloying sweetness, and was a very tasty barleywine, nice balance, unfortunately bad body. I'm very impressed anyway.

Dark orange color, intense, wih floating chunkies. Beautiful white and creamy head.
Malt in the smell, some caramel, red fruit.
Strong maltiness in the taste, fruity notes, and a strong sugary note.
There is some hop flavour, both in smell and taste, but not enough to balance this beer, too sweet and sugary.
It has some interesting notes, dry fruit, but too overwhelmed by the sweetness.
