12 oz. can

Pours black with a quickly dissipating frothy tan foam head. Smells like dark berries, dark chocolate, vanilla, mild smoke, nutty roasted malts, caramel, dark toffee, molasses, coffee, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like dark berries, dark baking chocolate, vanilla, mild smoke, nutty roasted malts, caramel, dark toffee, brown sugar, molasses, coffee, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium bodied, slick with moderate carbonation. Overall a nice and dark porter.

The appearance had a dark brown to almost black color, one and a half finger white foamy head that dies within less than a minute; some lacing, but not too much. The smell had a roasty sort of coffee to chocolate coming through in a combined sort of way. The taste was a nice bitter roasty coffee taste with a decent chocolate-ness coming through. There is a slight bitter roasty coffee aftertaste with a quick dry coffee-ish finish. On the palate, it sat at/about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable aspect to it. Carbonation is good for the style and for me as there’s enough bitterness invading the mouth and tongue but not too much to lead one astray from the style. Overall, I say this is a good American Porter well worthy of having again.

Good light porter. Not too much flavor but could make for a good summer time beer.

12oz can served in a shaker pint. No dates.

Pours very dark brown with a tiny head. Smell is pretty basic porter -- a little coffee/chocolate, pretty roasty, a little molasses sweetness.

Taste is almost smokey, very roasty. Some coffee, maybe a hint of chocolate.

Mouthfeel is moderately thick, but almost chalky dry. Overall, it's a fairly run-of-the-mill porter. Not bad.

Aroma- Toasted notes come through well with hints of roasted coffee.
Flavor- Malty upfront with a little too much roast for my tastes. The beer however drys out well with a nice hop bitterness towards the finish.
Mouth- medium body
Overall- Very drinkable I think it could use a few more fine tunings but overall good beer.

Crow Peak Pile O' Dirt Porter on tap, 6% ABV. I'm more of a stout fan, but since the restaurant didn't have any stouts, I got this. Waitress said "the only stout we have is the Pile O' Dirt Porter", so I rolled my eyes and ordered one. Turns out that upon further information, she was accidentally correct - porters are a type of stout! It was OK, but not much body or flavor compared to a stout.

Overall a pretty tasty and smooth drinking porter. Not much depth to it though..a little thin. Would be interested to try and imperial or BA version as the flavor was solid.
