Picked this one up at a local grocer. Hadn't heard of Roslyn before it; interesting that this was their flagship.

Looks great - a big mug of cola-colored lager.

Not much happening in the nose - some toasty malts but otherwise a balanced aroma.

It's flavor starts somewhat toasty-malt but quickly crosses over into a dark chocolate, probably in conjunction with Noble hops.

There's a little bit of a lingering stickiness which isn't may favorite yet not a deal breaker.

This is a good Dunkel, a style I rarely have a hankering for, for what it's worth.

On tap at the Brick in Roslyn. One of the best porter style lagers I've ever had

Handsome coppery amber color in the tall chalice. Clear with a nicer than average foam and plenty of spritz on the tongue. Very light body. A slight whiff of caramel.

Malty with some slight sweetness and not as dry as a Schwartzbier. A grainy taste with hints of scorched cereal. Some dark notes, woody, brambly, a charred bit of barley. Hops emerge from the background with some bitter pine and a modest bitter aftertaste.

Another decent entry in the Utah supermarket beer sweepstakes (4.0% max). Quite a pleasant big glassful for thirst quenching rather than savoring. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Bottleworks in Seattle.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with a thin, but persistant tan head. Aroma of dark, lightly toasted malt, cocoa and a hint of chocolate. Flavor follows aroma with dark biscuit and toasted malt, cocoa, nuts, nicely balanced and full. Medium bodied with a hint of creaminess. A very nice, rich dunkel lager, very robust for an ABV of 4.0! Full enough flavor to be approaching porter territory. Quite a flavor achievement for a session ale. I'll be trying Roslyn's other beer as soon as possible.

Presentation: On tap into a Mac & Jack's cone pint [email protected] 192 Brewing (taproom), Kenmore WA

Appearance: Dark brown with nice tan lacing!

Smell: Mildly sweet in the nose with hints of charcoal, roasted malts and a touch of hops.

Taste: Silky smooth with a nice medium bodied mouth feel. After the luscious mouth feel come the flavour which is quite malty ... light acidic twang from the roasted malts, a little dark roasted coffee flavour and an underlying toasted biscuit taste are balanced with a perfect combo of hop and roasted malt bitterness. The lingering after taste is of faded burnt sugar, drying grain and a slightly warming alcohol. A wonderful yet delicate hop character helps to round this brew also.

Notes: Oh baby! There are good porters and then there are great porters ... this one goes down as a great one, no doubt!

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: rich dark brown hue with hints of amber. Head is a finger of frothy light-tan foam. Looks good to me.

Smell: lightly chocolatey malt aroma with some yeastiness and vegetal hops coming through as well. Not super clean, but the base character is quite nice.

Taste: lightly chocolatey character, just like in the aroma. Some of that yeasty, bready character remains. Hops are mild in intensity and noble in character, but bitterness is balanced. It's decent, but like the aroma I feel like it could be cleaned up a little.

Mouthfeel: light body with a moderate carbonation and a decent creaminess.

Overall: between its characterful flavor and low ABV, this is a serious session beer. I liken it very much to an English dark mild ale.

On Tap

A- Looks OK at first glance, very dark coffee brown color. 2nd glance reveals no head and no lacing.

S- there is absolutely no nose to this beer.

T- Not much in way of taste either. Tastes like a mouthful of roasted grain-water. Husk-like aftertaste.

M- Extremely watery. Chalky residue.

O- Avoid this, a macro would be a better choice were there nothing else available. Poorly executed.

A: Poured a dark brown with a good amount of brown bubbles

S: Nose is pretty non existent. I did manage to find a light trace of cocoa

T: Taste is a hint of ococa, perhaps coffee but nothing much on this one.

M: Body is way to thin, watery

D: I would say this beer is not one I would recommend and needs more body to be complete, tasty
