The slightly hazy golden yellow colored beer pours out gently into a Duvel glass with a 1 1/2” finely bubbled white head that visibly recedes to a thin cap of foam a ring around the glass, leaving a few scattered speckles of lacing on the sides of the glass. Eventually the cap becomes an irregular island of foam and a ring around the glass. Sipping creates a couple of arches and some scattered legs and small patches of foam.

The aromas are a full of a variety of things and are interestingly complex. There’s some light funk, some lemon, some brine and possibly a bit earthiness. There’s also some very light lactic character along with a touch of the oak.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose with the bit of lemony lightly tart funk. The beer is both lightly tart and lightly sweet at the same time. The lemony tartness also seems to have a bit green orchard fruit character. The oak is there but way in the background and the flavor profile has a slightly tart wine like character. The brine from the salt is always present way in the background

The mouth feel is light and somewhat smooth with only some light finely bubbled carbonation. The finish is lightly tart and semi-dry with its mild lemony tartness and some saltiness in the background. Both persist on the back of the palate for a fairly long time as the rest of the flavors fade away.

Overall a completely enjoyable, drinkable beer that I’d be delighted to have again. It is both light and refreshing and the light salty character plays well with the light tartness. If you like something that is sort of like a gose but not really a gose this is one worth trying.

Berry. Sweet. Salty. Sour. Funk. Absolutely Delicious. Nothing else to say.

Sampled this on tap amongst a bunch of other sours. This one is decidedly not very sour. It is quite dry, like a very dry Italian pinot grigo, with a slight green apple and grape-like zing on the finish and a bit of lemon zest. The pink sea salt is, aside from being a rather pretentiously-specific ingredient, almost nonexistent except at the very back end, and pretty faintly at that. An interesting beer that is probably best enjoyed with a meal like white wine usually is -light pasta or chicken would work.

Beer pairing with Tasting Menu

Pungent sour. Hazy yellow. Some light grapefruit and lemon notes. Gets better throughout. Paired with seared Barnegat Scallop.

Spilled some on my shirt.

From the tap, pours pale yellow and clear with negligible head. Smells of lemon and the sea. Tastes incredibly tart, mostly citrus and a hint of grass with a salty presence throughout. Extremely light and refreshing with a dry, lemony finish.

On-tap 12/31/2014 at Doherty’s Ale House in Warwick, RI, served in a snifter glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains esters, very light malts and not much else.

T: The taste starts out sour as expected with flavors of citrus and corn. The malt character is light but hearty for the style and creates a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly tart.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean and dry.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, it’s a decent beer but there are better choices within the style.

Draught in Open Baladin, Rome on 10th Dec 2013.

Misty orange coloured beer with a smooth white head.

It reminded me of a well carbonated sour 'scrumpy cider' in both aroma and taste. Yet it didn't really have an apple flavour or smell: weird.

Glad I had a glass, not a huge fan of sour beers, but this was refreshing and although fairly 'fizzy' it hit the spot after wandering the streets of Rome and getting lost while trying to find a few sights.

On-tap at Alewife, Long Island City, NY

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a short head that died down and left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of sourness are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste starts out with sourness and has some hints of salt towards the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very easy to drink given its light body nature, but the sourness also makes it interesting enough to sip and savor.
