330mL bottle poured into a Chimay chalice at Pub da Aldo in Venice. Hazy straw gold with a dense, bright, white head. Aromas of pepper, spice, and white wine. A dry mouthfeel with a strong carbonation and flavors of peaches, grains, and white pepper. Hoppy without veering into the terroir of a "Belgian IPA."

330ml bottle, another of the small group of Euro beer offerings whose label will likely not play well in places like, oh, um, Ontario or the United States of America. Hah hah - kiss off, eh?

This beer pours a hazy, very pale golden straw colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, densely foamy, and mildly bubbly bone-white head, which leaves some random hovering bands of sudsy lace around the glass as it genially subsides.

It smells of sharp, kind of acrid earthy yeast, gritty, grainy pale malt, peppy drupe, and to a lesser extent, citrusy orchard fruit, white pepper, and a soft musty, leafy hoppiness. The taste is still replete with testy earthy herbal yeast, semi-sweet pale grainy malt, a touch of neutered caramel, actively spicy black and white pepper dust, faint funky notes, and a strangely welcome weedy, leafy noble hoppiness.

The bubbles are quite involved in pestering my various palates with their tiny, tiny effervescence, the body a decent medium weight for the style, and smooth with a few minor caveats, ones inconsequential to anyone with a don't give a shit constitution. It finishes just a touch off-dry, the tame lingering fruitiness tainting the otherwise straight-up yeasty, grainy, spicy, and (let's not forget) hoppy stranglehold here.

It's nice to see this upstart Italian brewery take the high road in applying the titular 'hoppy' character to this offering - yep, this is no overwrought, clash of brewing cultures, rather, a careful, if not always agreeable integration as such - which is to say that I'm getting way more pepper spice here, than anything hoppy. Oh well, no biggie - now, cue some of Gordon Gano's finest, already!
