A Russian imperial stout, brewed in Italy, with chili pepper! I had to get this. I've been in the past few years realizing that Italy, if you're willing to pay the extra dollars, is making some of the best beers these days, so here and there I treat myself to a new one. When I saw that this had chili in it, I had to get it. I love chili; my favorite chili beer is the one at Eske's Brew Pub in Taos, NM, and what I love about that one is that it's just chock full of delicious hot chili flavor. This one definitely did not disappoint. My first reaction was that you can really taste the chili, which is a huge plus. And the beer, too, is another of these very fine Italian craft beers. The darkness of the beer combines perfectly with the heat and flavor of the chili. The mouthfeel is wonderful, one of the softest feeling beers I've ever had. I will definitely be buying another of these to lay down for a few years.

Deep and dark, pours thick with a humongous head that dissipates very slowly, leaving a nice cap. Taste is like the smell: chocolate and molasses. Body is dense with ample carbonation.. Finish is dry, with a slight alcohol heat. Very nice.

This is a stout that happens to include chili peppers, rather than an in your face chili pepper beer.

Chili pepper is present in the noise and in the mouth, but it is mild in both aspects. First sip is nice and does not impart to much heat. The heat is slow building and cumulative. By the end, it lingers on your tongue quite nicely.

Other flavors are dark rich chocolate with a little roasted quality.

I wish the mouthfeel were thicker, but it's hard to achieve that with this ABV.

a really nice stout here brewed with hot chili peppers. cool to see some more Italian breweries popping up in the market. I hate the prices but I love the beers. this one is jet black, shiny, rich and viscous looking, with an oatmeal colored head half in inch high but extremely dense. really pretty, a little intimidating. the nose is bitter roasted barley, maybe oat sweetness in the middle, and the spirited presence of chili peppers. the way good dark chocolate can be accentuated by a flake of chili, this is similar in its dosage. never trying to be a pepper beer I don't think, and never trying to be overly intense with it, just let it bring out some of the more expressive elements of the dark grains, and it does that beautifully. I look at this like the way the italians are perceived to approach cooking, with understanding, pride, respect, and a great deal of care. this is that kind of thing, delicate in a way big stouts usually cannot be. that careful hand with the peppers makes this a work of art, and while its unlikely I buy it again, I respect it tremendously and am glad to have shared it with good friends. unlike other chili beers in its heat, which is nonexistent but does have flavor and a little warmth helped along by booze. lots of body, slick going down, and memorable.

Look- Jet black and light brown mocha top that quickly dissipates. The nose is undeniable full of roasted chiles and nearly burnt malts. It is really intense and very over the top nearly scorched earth. It is borderline rauchbier. The taste was similar to the nose. Yes - I did order this blindly without know of the chili additive and its relatively thin, almost porter, body.

So delightful, a bit of a stretch to enjoy by yourself, but needs to be in a stout tasting lineup.

Tan foam, black liquid, the foam shrinks fast with little lacing left behind.

I get roasted malt, coffee, chocolate of the dark kind, licorice, and a fruity/boozy aroma reminiscent of something which was barell aged.

I get chocolate and roasted malt out of the gate, hints of coffee, definite licorice...some booze.

I would call it medium bodied with lightish carbonation.

A very good tasting Imperial Stout that however, drinks a lot stronger than what the abv is. Still, I cannot give it a thumbs down by any means.

I lived off of these when I lived in Rome. Used to go to Macche every night and get one of these and a Cantillon. This is a great stout, and the best stout coming out of Italy at the moment. I'll be honest, I've only had it on draught. Going to buy a bottle later on and see how it compares.
