Notes / Commercial Description:
I think that in the life of every brewer exists a particular moment that makes him proud and satisfied with his work: for me this time comes during the blend of La Luna Rossa. Maybe because it is the beer that it takes more time before leaving the brewery, or maybe for a certain analogy with the trade of enologist, it is always very emotional when myself and Luca (a solid presence at the brewery) find ourselves between sour splashes and leftover pieces of fruit that remind me the “visciole” (morello cherry) my grandfather used to eat while playng cards. It starts with an acidic base that has made at least 2 years of mixed fermentations (conducted mainly by lactic, acetic bacteria and brettanomyces) which have at least 6 months macerated cherries and sour cherries, blend with a small part of chimera and some young beer; the blend is put in numbered bottles indicating the year of the cuvée, which refined further 12 months before selling.

La Luna Rossa is like a kriek on the basis flemish red, has an extraordinary complexity associated with a wonderful elegance, for lovers of the genre is definitely one of those beers that you find it difficult to forget.

- Giovanni

In the glass, to the nose and in the mouth …

Born from the blend about different beers, some of them aged in barrels until 2 years with the addition morello and marasca cherries. Intense amber colour with ruby reflections, extraordinary aromatic complexity: fruity aromas (marasca and morello cherries in the first place), accompanied by subtle ethereal notes and sublime acetic hints and lactic acid, as well as shades of oxidized malts. In the mouth it is tasty, large, persistent, and ends with a magnificent and uplifting acidity.

Beautiful cherry aroma and flavor with a very nice lactic sourness present. A sipper with a lot to offer that definitely does justice to traditional Belgian krieks.

On draught at Craft & Draft in Amsterdam, La Luna Rossa is a cherry sour that pours bright magenta with a thin white collar, still.
Smell is heavy cherry and funk, but there is not much cherry taste, more cherry pit. Very, very nice, highly drinkable.

I was able to buy six different beers from Birrificio Del Ducato the La Luma Rossa (Cuvée 2012) was the second of the six we have tried. Like the first we tried Chrysoplis this one also had a turpentine flavor that over shadowed the taste. Being from 2012 my feeling is that the beer did not age well.

Cuvee 2012. Bottle 748.
Pours a bit gushing murky burgundy beer, head vanishes in seconds.
Smell -balsamic vinegar, cherry, nice funk.
Taste - sour, cherry, brett funk.
Feel - prickly, well-balanced, mature beer.

This was gross. 2011 cuvée. Bottle 1372/2000. Wanted to try something different at the store. My first real sour beer and I am not impressed. People drink this by choice? Ugh.

A slightly nutty finish, cherry perhaps as well, sour of course. Cherries dominate the fruit bill. A good bit of funk at the start. Some nice yeast character.

The color is murky and kinda ugly, the carbonation isn't great. A lot of haze.

Overall I really like this one, REALLY like this one.

Sadly the BA overall score sucks here due to the look and smell scores being low. Still I stand by this is great beer, and looks don't matter at all and the smell well it need more but it isn't a negative. This is a 4.15-4.3 by a reasonable scoring system.

Cherries were really well presented in this beer but the base beer itself was a little stinky/off to me. Not a bad beer by any means but just didn't quite do it for me.
