I've been wanting to go to this place for quite some time since they remodeled. I have been reading and noted that their Minnesota microbrew collection was quite nice. Specifically I wanted to check out a few of the Flat Earth brews.

My wife and I checked the place out tonight. I had a Flat Earth Angry Planet and she had an Element 115 initially. The pale ale was served a little cold, but was done pretty nicely. We both ordered about halfway through our drinks and the waitress returned about 5 min after we had finished (wish she would have been there sooner). My second choice was the Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale. My wife had a Sprecher Hefeweizen. My SNHA smelled and tasted a little skunky but was quite good. The Hefeweizen was stellar. Our food arrived shortly after we started our drinks. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich with bleu cheese crumbles in the sandwich. My wife had the portabello burger. BOth were very good. The best thing was the fries. The fries here are homemade and addictive. I will be back some time in the near future for these. My wife stated "if I ever want fries again, this is where I would go." I finished the evening with a Surly Darkness. This was the cherry on top of an outstanding beer drinking evening.

Overall, I was quite impressed w/ Stub and Herb's. When I walked in and saw the beer chalkboard I was like a kid in the candy store. The beer menu was nice and actually listed styles of beers (with descriptions from beeradvocate.com). Under each style was a beer or beers on their menu that represented the style. I felt this was a good way to explain to others the beauty of beer. The food was nice and the selection was good. I'm sure the selection rotates here, but they had two seperate menu sections. One for Minnesota craft brews and a section for other craft brews. The only thing I didn't like was their bottle selection, which was subpar. They did have a few Belgians, but the craft brew selection was nil. All in all, I strongly recommend this place for a beer drinker. If anything, you will be able to sample some of Minnesota's best.

Beautiful aged bar right on campus where you will almost never find a stereotypical college student except for gameday. For the most part, the students that frequent here are genuinely looking for good beer and not always looking to get hammered. Their prices and pours of their rare beers are generous. Their selection and rotation seems to get better every year and their food is typical bar food, but still very good. It is well priced and they have a couple takeovers each month, but do not seem to hype them up like other places do. Definitely the place for people looking for craft on campus.

This is a college bar. They do have an above average tap list. I did not try the food. Seems like a good place to grab some beers, but I assume it gets slammed with college students during the school year. Was a bit grimy, but that is how all crowded college bars get.

The bartender was attentive. I never had to look for service.

When my son went to The U, we were regulars at Stub & Herb's. Very good beer list, slanted primarily to local stuff, and excellent food - the burgers and fries are outstanding, IMHO. Just a great college bar/restaurant that happens to serve some really good beer, including hard-to-get local one-offs.

A college joint filled with college kids. When the kids are around its loud and energetic - sometimes too energetic. When they are not around, it can be dull and somewhat depressing.

Visited on a summer Monday at 6:30 pm. Place was slow. Just off UM campus. There are definitely better beer bars in the twin cities. Walk to surly less than a mile away.

V - Typical dark and dank northern latitude bar. Definitely beer is part of their focus but not particularly beer centric. Curious as to how often the taps rotate based on their rather permanent looking beer menu. 3.5
Q- All beers in shaker pints (-). All the glasses look clean. 3.5
Sel - About 35 on tap with BMC in bottles. A good selection focused on local brews - Surly, Indeed, Steel Toe, Fulton, Lift Bridge, Summit, Bent Paddle. Also a sour on tap. It was summer so only one stout on tap 4
S - Staffed by university students. Friendly but distant. 3.75
F - Ordered the bleu burger which was good. Fries were pedestrian. 3.5

Only thing I didn't like about the place was the dungeon bathroom that gave fear to possible transgressions against my person.

Grreat beer selection. Service was prompt. Reminded me of my college years but with better beer by far.

Awesome tap list always and often unbeatable beer prices on some terrific brews. If heading to any Gopher games this is a must stop!
