Pours a hazy dark brown with transparent edges. Nice head retention and fantastic persistent lacing. Looks quite a bit like Aventinus, actually.

Smell is ridiculously underwhelming, bordering on the nonexistent. Vague hints at clove, malt and fruit come through as it warms.

Taste is too sweet for my liking. This is definitely a weizenbock, as wheat is present big time, and clove plays a role as well. Everything seems more toned down than usual from my limited weizenbock experience, however. There is actually a hint of coffee, and some pears as well. Alcohol is very well hidden. Interesting, but it doesn't work all that well.

Mouthfeel is creamy and full. Slightly chewy. maybe the best part of the brew.

Too sweet to drink a ton of, but not quite cloying as a single glass. The alcohol is very well hidden, at 8%, but I wouldn't want to try to session this. Not bad for the style.

Draught at the brewpub. Cloudy brown color with a purple tinge and small head. Big banana and clove aroma with a caramel and sweet maltiness under it. The mouthfeel is really nice: thick and really creamy with lower carbonation, almost like sipping cream. It keeps the components of a good dunkelweizen and intensifies them without any noticeable alcohol. Nice caramel and touch of spice; maybe a little too intense in the banana though.

Consumed 05/25/08. Noted as 9.3% ABV on menu on my visit.

Moderately cloudy caramel brown. Wisps of foam and minimal lacing.

No aroma.

More like an imperial hefeweizen than a weizenbock. Strongly sweet malt and wheaty tang. Big but simple flavor.

Not sure I could do a whole pint of this, but a sampler is fine.

Went down to the new Hollister Brewing Company for another one of their fantastic brews. This time around I tried the Magic Clamps Weizenbock. Very tasty indeed! It's got a nice deep red/brown body with a reasonable head on it. I didn't stick my nose too deep into this one, but it had a pleasant malty scent. The flavor was strong on the roasty, grapey malts side. Nice and spicy! A bit sweet, but not overly so. Good carbonation gave the fresh flavors a lively edge. The highish abv didn't overwhelm the overall taste at all. Very drinkable!
