On cask at the Real Ale Festival at PP Carlsbad

Appearance is a cloudy orange hue, big thick white foamy head, moderate lacing

Smell is sweet hop juices, plenty of lemon, grass, citrus, and tea leaves, hints of cotton candy, pale malts in the background

Taste is sweet pine resin hops initially, tea leaves and lemon followup closely, grassy and chalky tones, finishes with light sweetness

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, resiny texture, moderate carbonation

Drinkability is moderate, nice balance of hops and malts, texture is a bit thinned out, but overall quite nice

Squat, swing-top 2L growler obtained via Growling at the Moon from Solomon420. Thanks for the opportunity...

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" sporadic airy white head over the moderately cloudy golden amber brew. Head recedes to the rim rather quickly, with long-lasting lacing. Aroma is syrupy pine and grapefruit, just what you expect from something described as a West Coast DIPA. Taste mirrors the nose, not much more to say, other than note slight warmth upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is very smooth, and drinkability is excellent for the style. Nice to see a brew that shows that brews can be very hoppy, and yet not knock your teeth out with a tsunami of bitterness.

I had this one on tap.

Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, caramel, and some pine. Tastes of floral hops, citrus, and caramel. The hops and malts were there, but on the softer side and overall an enjoyable IIPA.

Poured a nice orangish color with a small white head. Nose is hops and plenty of it. Taste is toasted malts but light and plenty of floral and citrus notes. Good ABV leaves it drinkable and well balanced. Not as good as Hip Hop but pretty good overall. Mouthfeel is sweet, chewy and good overall.

Draught at the brewery. Gold with a small fine head that leaves light lace. Sharp hoppy aroma of pine and bitter orange. The flavor has a light, dry maltiness, and a powerful bitterness. Something about the hops is a bit rough in the flavor, with more apparent bitterness than any fruitier flavors. Medium bodied with a slightly watery finish that feels way light for the 8.6% that this batch came out as. The lighter malts kinda remind me of pliny the elder, but the hops just dont gel well in this case. A bit of a let down, as Hip Hop is an awesome DIPA, though this is still drinkable. 3.2 Rerate: The hops werent ass weird as I had thought. Nice hoppy, piney aroma. Still a bit light on the body, but the bitterness is refreshing.
